He's right, back when server groups were still a thing you had exactly two options to get Rank 1: Actually be the best team or pay off the top dogs so they'd let you take rank 1. Otherwise you'd get the same three people taking Rank 1 on multiple BG groups. Regular Gladiator however was easier. I remember queuing and after 5 or 10 minutes it would widen the search and we'd face some French team from an RP server who played like they should be 300 rating lower and not 10th in their server group.

Wow combat just takes forever in comparison. If u search faker zed vs zed outplay, u will never see this kind of thing in wow. Combat is just snail paced.

Every good player claims they were r1 x10. Was it r1 for druid on a particular battlegroup? Was it the r1 team for 3s in a season on a single server? It wasn't r1 of all classes of all servers, like the number 1 player/team in the world because that would mean only 1 per season. R1 is such a deceptive way to say it.
in wow terms, when you say rank1 or top 10 or whatever, 99.99% of the time it means either 2v2 or 3v3. literally nobody is referring to classic wow when saying rank 1. besides, pvp in wow outside of arenas and duels, is a joke. still 10x harder than league of legends but still a joke in wow terms.
its actually not that complex. you have servers,and before you had collections of servers form a battlegroup. each battlegroup could have only one rank 1 team per bracker(2v2,3v3,5v5). so if you were in a r1 team,you got r1. and r1 was based on rating,and this means,you could have people share the rating. this happened a lot,ofc,they were still really good,but it was extremely common to have 2-5 teams be r1 rating. with the new system,r1 is % based(top 0.1% gets it) because there is no battlegroups,and only regions. depending on the situation,there is either more r1s because the playerbase is big enough,or LESS r1s because the playerbase has gone down,and since its % based,the number always changes,its not a static number. also with the new system you can only get r1 from 3v3 or 3v3 soloshuffle,so that is already 1 less bracket. and since no 5v5,2 less players per team.
Idk recent rank1 has been a challenge since the ladder is underinflated. But I think back in the day when rank 1 was server based it depends on the server and grouping. Like yes if you were trying to get rank 1 on darkspear back in data/early mop days holy shit good luck but like on the forgotten coast it’d be a lot easier

I am not sure if it is easier after the %-thingy. There are fewer rank 1s now iirc. Back then you had several battlegroups, rank 1 in all brackets and double the amount of players in a team. So lets say you had 4 people in a 2s team, 6 in a 3s and 10 in a 5s team which all got rank 1 in a battlegroup.

Platinum years ago is the equivalent of like silver today the general skill of players has only gone up as more tech gets introduced and more ppl solve the game. Look at pro players I season 3 compared to season 13. The guys back then couldn't even flash properly nor did they know how to attack move and they were still considered the best of the best. Compare that to today's challenger players and its no contest.

Completely different games. I've seen WOW players fail at WOW. The truth is 2 Rank 1 players can carry a noob pretty high (especially if there is some abusable mechanic at work, even people to rank 1); he could definitely get Gladiator, but how well he did past that would depend on himself as well as the balancing of the classes/comps and mechanics at play. If he wanted to do it, maybe playing a DK comp or Wizard Cleave would work well, something that works well with an Evoker healer or Druid because they are far and away the best-looking healers in the next expansion, but I don't think he wants to actually. Having said all of this, he can't rattle off like he has done any of this because he got archives in the league/other achievements in other games - if it's so easy buy the game you get a boosted character level in the next expansion and do it.

Every good player claims they were r1 x10. Was it r1 for druid on a particular battlegroup? Was it the r1 team for 3s in a season on a single server? It wasn't r1 of all classes of all servers, like the number 1 player/team in the world because that would mean only 1 per season. R1 is such a deceptive way to say it.
in wow terms, when you say rank1 or top 10 or whatever, 99.99% of the time it means either 2v2 or 3v3.
literally nobody is referring to classic wow when saying rank 1.
besides, pvp in wow outside of arenas and duels, is a joke. still 10x harder than league of legends but still a joke in wow terms.

its actually not that complex.
you have servers,and before you had collections of servers form a battlegroup. each battlegroup could have only one rank 1 team per bracker(2v2,3v3,5v5). so if you were in a r1 team,you got r1. and r1 was based on rating,and this means,you could have people share the rating. this happened a lot,ofc,they were still really good,but it was extremely common to have 2-5 teams be r1 rating.
with the new system,r1 is % based(top 0.1% gets it) because there is no battlegroups,and only regions. depending on the situation,there is either more r1s because the playerbase is big enough,or LESS r1s because the playerbase has gone down,and since its % based,the number always changes,its not a static number.
also with the new system you can only get r1 from 3v3 or 3v3 soloshuffle,so that is already 1 less bracket. and since no 5v5,2 less players per team.

Idk recent rank1 has been a challenge since the ladder is underinflated. But I think back in the day when rank 1 was server based it depends on the server and grouping. Like yes if you were trying to get rank 1 on darkspear back in data/early mop days holy shit good luck but like on the forgotten coast it’d be a lot easier

I am not sure if it is easier after the %-thingy. There are fewer rank 1s now iirc. Back then you had several battlegroups, rank 1 in all brackets and double the amount of players in a team. So lets say you had 4 people in a 2s team, 6 in a 3s and 10 in a 5s team which all got rank 1 in a battlegroup.

Platinum years ago is the equivalent of like silver today the general skill of players has only gone up as more tech gets introduced and more ppl solve the game. Look at pro players I season 3 compared to season 13. The guys back then couldn't even flash properly nor did they know how to attack move and they were still considered the best of the best. Compare that to today's challenger players and its no contest.

Completely different games. I've seen WOW players fail at WOW. The truth is 2 Rank 1 players can carry a noob pretty high (especially if there is some abusable mechanic at work, even people to rank 1); he could definitely get Gladiator, but how well he did past that would depend on himself as well as the balancing of the classes/comps and mechanics at play. If he wanted to do it, maybe playing a DK comp or Wizard Cleave would work well, something that works well with an Evoker healer or Druid because they are far and away the best-looking healers in the next expansion, but I don't think he wants to actually. Having said all of this, he can't rattle off like he has done any of this because he got archives in the league/other achievements in other games - if it's so easy buy the game you get a boosted character level in the next expansion and do it.
