Gloria Steinem once remarked that 'Nixon was perhaps THE most sexually insecure chief of state since Napoleon.' Boy did i love that Nixon parody from Adrian Cronauer (as portrayed by the late Robin Williams).
I love how maliciously gleeful he is when he says ‘Ooh, it’s an order. In that case gentlemen, let’s edit.’ “That they’re soft, that they’re shallow and they have no purpose.”
Almost all of the radio-scenes were improvised. Many more lines were made up by Williams. if you have a comedian as your star, let him handle the comedy. And that's what they did.
lol I saw that version too when showing my friend the movie for the first time. I was looking forward to showing him this scene too, so imagine my disappointment at that change! The joke just doesn't work without it being about Nixon's balls! 😝
Why were the two guys so flipped out over radio ? Its radio for the soldiers in Vietnam & it's just some levity which u would think the station guys would think was not a big deal considering men in the field were dying every day by the hundreds or thousands. Like so what he edited a Nixon press conference I'm sure the soldiers know it's not a real interview & like the nice head guy said to Dickerson " it's just radio "
Well, for the Nixon conference, obviously Lt. Haulk has a hard-on for Nixon because he flipped out over the press conference parody and he even fussed about it to the General who actually thought it was funny as hell. I agree with you that it's just radio
It was government radio. It was for entertainment, but mocking the commander-in-chief would be more than a little out of place, given the circumstances. It would be like a Vatican radio station mocking the pope.
This movie was based on Adrian Cronauer's tour in Vietnam. Like most of the movie Adrian Cronauer said this scene is total horse shit and never took place in real life
When the movie came out I was 12 but still I had to ask, did the real Cronauer do all this? 😆 Not surprisingly a lot of people asked the same question. Cronauer, being very much alive, was able to set the record straight that no, he didn’t, and several things depicted here would have gotten him court martialed very quickly. He played some rock records that were a little spicy for AFRN’s tastes. He had a disagreement with station brass about reporting a bombing in Saigon, but that was as edgy as it got. The movie was mostly an excuse for Robin Williams to do his most Robin Williamsy comedy, which I enjoyed. 😁 he was so over-the-top with this role that I think most reasonable people recognized that this was movie fiction. Cronauer himself tried pitching the story about comedy hijinks in Vietnam as a sitcom and then as a movie, so he never expected much realism. He just wanted a funny story.
"I can't even make fun of Richard Nixon & there's a man who's screaming out to be made fun of."
Nixon was still alive when this movie came out I only hope he saw this and laughed really hard
Nah everyone associated with this movie got put on a list of his
Well, His Laugh Might've Been Hard But You Heard What He Said About His Testicles! 8-)
I'm sure he did.
He was probably too busy beating off to "Patton."
"How would you describe your testicles?" Oh god so funny.
Gloria Steinem once remarked that 'Nixon was perhaps THE most sexually insecure chief of state since Napoleon.' Boy did i love that Nixon parody from Adrian Cronauer (as portrayed by the late Robin Williams).
Yeah, but I don't wanna hear Nixon describing his own testicles!!
“They’re soft; that they are shallow and have no purpose...” lol
@@edaxsachorwzky8898 ''Wh-what are you saying sir?''
@@SavageBroadcast "They lack, the physical strength."
he can turn the most serious of things funny,
R.I.P Robin Williams
RandomDude902 I

I love how maliciously gleeful he is when he says ‘Ooh, it’s an order. In that case gentlemen, let’s edit.’
“That they’re soft, that they’re shallow and they have no purpose.”

1:11 The moment Hauk's worldview starts *SHATTERING!* 💀
You have to wonder how many lines are improvised
Good point.
Almost all of the radio-scenes were improvised.
Many more lines were made up by Williams.
if you have a comedian as your star, let him handle the comedy. And that's what they did.
Or snorted
They lack...the physical strength 😂😂😂
I saw the TV edited version of this movie many years ago and instead of "testicles," "buttocks" were said.
Bums! Balls!
lol I saw that version too when showing my friend the movie for the first time. I was looking forward to showing him this scene too, so imagine my disappointment at that change!
The joke just doesn't work without it being about Nixon's balls! 😝
there soft they have no purpose.
how would you describe your sex life with your wife Pat?.
it's unexciting
Best part of the movie

Some leadership care about stupid stuff. Some of them enforce uniform standards in combat.
Well he is called Dickerson. Not subtle.
Well, for the Nixon conference, obviously Lt. Haulk has a hard-on for Nixon because he flipped out over the press conference parody and he even fussed about it to the General who actually thought it was funny as hell. I agree with you that it's just radio

Some of the best comedy ever made in that Nixon parody.
I heard Mrs. Doubtfire at the beginning
For 2020: Some wise-ass-don't give a shit-Radio Jock needs to do this for Trump... ROFL, LMFAO!

"By plane, by helicopter, and also by automobile" 😂😂😂
1:11 THAT EXPLAINS A LOT, EXCEPT WHY IS NIXON CALLED "TRICKY DICK"?
Dick is short for Richard for some reason
Because of his Grandson Brandon
Jimmy Wah was hilarious.
I would love to listen to the rest of that tape. Robin Williams is the true king of comedy.
This movie was based on Adrian Cronauer's tour in Vietnam.

Well yes. But this is so much funnier and a more poignant story.
Frankly all that’s important about putting his name on it was setting.
