I never considered something like this. You're right too...the price makes the option more realistic to at least try. I'm not a fan of cloud everything... Thanks!
Exactly! Of course for small businesses or prosumers something more high end for a NAS would be best, but this is low cost, easy and efficient. I love that it takes the NAS ideals and makes it more affordable.
Definitely getting one. I've been researching the other more complicated NAS systems for way too long. I don't have 4T of data yet, so this will get my feet wet until I need more space. Thanks, Shannon!
You mentioned using a NAS for a Plex server. It would be nice to have some actual data on using the BeeStation to stream 4k video with varying levels of compression. Also, I suspect many people are going to use this for archival storage. If that is your goal, you probably want mirrored disks, at least. Alternately, you could use cloud backups but that has pluses and minuses. Hardware eventually fails. Failure to plan for failure, is a plan to fail.
Hi, thanks for the video. I am confused, though. On Amazon UK, the Senology store advertises this as an SSD solution, but every other source either tells me it is an HDD or doesn't mention it. Can you clarify before I buy it, please? Just subscribed by the way.
Caution for others (to re-iterate what was said in the video): a NAS is not a backup solution unless you backup the NAS as well. I recently built a homelab server and use the nas as the backup of that and the nas then backs up online (encrypted)

This is network attached storage. It is literally a NAS 😂. Back in my day all a NAS would do is store your data, now they have security camera backups, Plex servers and more. This is why my thumbnail says noob friendly. It's simplified.
You don't need to know the IP address of the beestation unless you just want to do local access. You can bookmark the portal site and just go there to login with your Synology account or open the app on your phone.

Very helpful. I’ve a Synology NAS but I only really use it for backup. This would be better for me if I was purchasing now. Thanks.

Glad I could help!
Nice review, Shannon. I did vote for this one to be first. Did you ever mention why you went with Cat6E over Cat6A?
Thanks for sharing. Blessings on your day.

Nice work

Awesome review awesome device very useful
Glad you think so!
thank you
Does it keep original resolution of photos on the phone. I had ASUStor and the resolution was terrible, looked like 800x600 :(
Nice video.

Right
Thanks!
Thank you for the 🥳🎊 TIP! 🎊🥳
Can it be a Plex Server? Great video! Thanks!
Does this use an ssd or a conventional hard drive?
Can it really be called a nas though? it can barely do nas things.

Your grandma has an ancient computer, but understands how to set up a NAS and record the IP address in a password manager?😅
Ah, yeah. The mythical average user... 😄
