After all the criticism from everyone including our fans, Onana bounced back in superb fashion in the new year. And he ends the season with an FA Cup under his belt. My keeper 🇨🇲
Our keeper will always make the most saves in the PL because we are yet to have a functional defense. Yes, whenever Varane and Martinez play, Onana has little or no work to do, but both defenders are too vulnerable to injuries, especially Varane and in addition to that, he will be departing, unfortunately, because I really love the guy. But since the departure of Vidic and Ferdinand, we haven't had a proper defense, and that's over a decade ago. It was the same situation with De Gea, why you think he got to win the golden glove a few times? Because of the amount of saves he had to make per game. Another situation, our defense will make any goalkeeper we have between the posts look average even when he is gifted and has the potential to become world-class. And Onana definitely has the potential to become world-class, all he needs is time.
A beast. The number of shots he has to face would have broken lesser characters. Saves shot he shouldn't, lets in the odd one he shouldn't (as did DeGea early on too). Ball player, strong, gutsy and seems to brush off the critics. Real MUFC player amongst some overpaid imposters.
Redeemed himself towards the end of the season. Was a bit unsure at first, but you gotta take into account the awful defence he had in front of him plus adjusting to the league. Don't forget DDG took a while to adjust and come good, no doubt Onana will do the same.
