Kevin Von Erich became a family friend. We lost touch over time. My parents organized a wrestling show at my school with MWF. Kevin showed up, as well as Kamala, Junkyard Dog, Paul Orndorf, and Honky-Tonk Man.
I'm going to have to carve out time to watch the entire interview. These snips are great. What a great performer he was. And he doesn't trash anyone else that much.
Without question the single most decent man to have ever wrestled. I LOVE this channel- Greg is the type of guy who one would love to hear his opinion on politics, NFL . . . Anything. We’d love to hear from his wife!
Greg's Uncle was a Freebird. Buddy Robert's used to wrestle as Dale Valentine, Johnny Valentine's tag team partner, and storyline "brother". That would make Greg The Hammer, Robert's nephew, by virtue of Kayfabe..
Much respect to Ric Flair but I learned and emulated the figure four from Greg "the Hammer" Valentine as a kid watching WWF in the mid 80's. Im glad both of these legends are alive and well.
I enjoy Mr. Valentine's no BS approach...he tells it like it is. Greg if you see this I grew up watching your dad Johnny wrestle in St. Louis (Wrestling at the Chase). Finishing move...the Brain Buster...
Always thought he was underrated. A great bad guy. I've seen some of his interviews, seems like a gentleman. Not bitter like a lot of the old guys. Doesn't have much bad to say about anyone.
I’ve been tearing through these interviews and it seems you have to really work to get the Hammer to say a bad word about someone. And the dude is wrestling technician
If You see brute again ... yous ask him about that little old bar in Antioch IL ... and that poor fella and closed door scene. Old man damned near flipped seeing him on. WWf . 85 .
As a kid in the 80s I learned the figure four from the Hammer. Much respect to Ric Flair but the NWA wasn't as mainstream in the early cable days so I was only aware of him.
“but he was tall, he was lanky, but he would have filled out...” very funny the way he said that. I think David had actually “filled out” quite a bit by the time he passed. And yes, he was indeed the most talented of the 3.
I would have love to meet the Von Erichs. Excellent athletes. I work for an agency that represents a few wrestlers. A few years back a client was at a wrestling convention. He introduced me to Marty Janetty. We all go for drinks. We get separate bills. We're all grown men. Marty ducked out on the bill. He beat a $67 check with tip. Then client and I looked at one another like is this real? What a scumbag. I paid the bill.
@Frank Burjan I suppose it's a great story now. But at the moment I was a bit irritated. All receipts are handed in when I use the company credit card. The clients Bill normal, a meal and 2 drinks. Same as mine. Marty's were all shots and a beer. Another wrestler we saw later that day, Tony Atlas, said "oh y'all took Marty out? He beat y'all so he can have some rock money".. I laughed as the way he said it was hilarious. I didn't know Janetty smoked crack.
@Frank Burjan yes you were correct. At the time I worked for Bill Behrens. Google him. I told him what happened. He said I'm going to tell you right now which WWF superstars or fallen Stars not to go out with. I work for someone else now but I vaguely remember a couple names on that list. Haha. Jake Roberts. Marty Janetty. Abdullah the Butcher, The Sandman,
@Frank Burjan I don't know. But he's a user. I can't say what his choices are. Idk. He name dropped my former boss Bill Behrens at a motel where We had represented clients staying to get a free room. He told the front desk to bill the agency. Those dumb dumbs did it. Unbelievable
Funny Greg said Kerry fucked up his own finish. In Ric's book, when he talked about their famous match after David died, Ric said: "Why give Kerry some elaborate finish? He'll just screw it up anyway." So they went with something similar to what Greg was talking about.
I am pleasantly surprised to see Greg. I could have sworn I saw/heard a news report saying he'd died back in the early 2000s. Glad I was wrong on that.
I have spent the last 2 years reading and studying the Von Erich Family. There is a ton of silent from Kevin he tells nothing. Do you realize if Kevin would tell all he could write a New York Times Best Seller.
He's been through more than most men could take. He sometimes seems to be very aware of the facts of his family's history and sometimes in denial of it, which is very understandable. We all do what we can to get through the night. I'm not sure he'd ever write the book that throws his dad under the bus, or any of his brothers.
@@TerryKeefeMedia that is spot on and I could not agree with you more. I grew up worshipping the Von Erichs in the ‘80’s. Kevin is loyal to his family to a fault. I think to his detriment. He should open up about all the scandals, if only to serve as a warning to others the dangers of drug abuse, depression, and suicide. I really think he could prevent others from going down the same dark path that his family has experienced. Talking openly and honestly about his experiences would do so much towards forgiving himself and set him on the track to true healing.
I Remember my 1st wrestling game Video gameI first Play It I did tag team King Kong Bundy comes out I thought O I'm in a lot of trouble Then my partner came out Greg the hammer Valentine I was like oh yeah everything's gonna be just fine
Greg is a professional. He took alot of pride in his in ring performance minus all the other hoopla that is part of the business now. He had the nickname too that fit the business "The Hammer." Beefcake was okay, more comical actually, I mean it was wrestling, how tough can you come off with a name like Beefcake calling yourself "The Barber." I know they had some loser loses hair matches in the heyday even in Vince vs. Trump with their representatives at wrestlemania, but it was wrestling aka tough guy competition not Barber College. Oh well, the Honky Tonk Man didn't sound all that tough either but I guess that worked for awhile.
His son was full of himself. I work for an agency that represents a few wrestlers. I met Scott at the same Wrestling convention I met Marty Janetty. These guys no longer in the pros are very lost. Marty beat the $67 bill when we went for drinks and Scott was so full of himself you'd think you were talking to Ric Flair
Discus Punch. Kerry had been a star high school athlete in the discus and it was incorporated into his wrestling. Move never looked that great, though. Never did it very smoothly, that I ever saw. His drop kick was fantastic though.
@@kenterminateddq5311 100%!! those were as awesome if not better than anything they did with the freebirds. Adams heel turn was sick! When Kevin left on a stretcher I may have prayed for him! So dang good! Adams may have been one of the most talented to come through wccw, his ring science was elite.
Vonerics they were so good for wrestling cuz they were so mysterious, Kevin is awesome. I stayed down there other than that not the greatest because I'm from Baltimore.....
Should auction off a coffee with valentine or and beefcake for charity,I know I would bid!I subscribed because of the valentine and dream team interviews

So Awesome
Thank You Hammer, so many times wrestlers disrespect the Von Erich's, you did not
Greg is the model of what a pro wrestler should be he's the learning tree
Perfectly put, Bruce.
Very true.
Greg was always one of my favorites. He could sell hits like no one else and was tough as nails.
No he was a Hammer..he should have teamed with Nailz
Ladies and Gentlemen HAMMER and NAILZ

Greg Valentine is one of the best interviews. He's such a professional...no whining just straight details..
Greg is such a great interview... This Network is fantastic. Keep up the great work
I love these clips! Greg is a true professional! I really enjoy his honest, yet complimentary answers.
I saw The Hammer for most of his WWF/WWWF career. He was one of my favorite heels.
You should've seen him in his Mid - Atlantic NWA JCP days.
I'm going to have to carve out time to watch the entire interview. These snips are great. What a great performer he was. And he doesn't trash anyone else that much.
I have a lot of respect for Greg. The way he presents himself. Just a top class guy.

The Hammer's shoot interviews are great. Filled with knowledge and an interesting perspective.
Greg hammer is the greatest wrestler of all time and wwe hall of famer I like hearing him on RUclips thank you Greg
Love all his story's. One of the all around best for sure.

Yes he tells it like it is but with kindness to. You could see he has a genuine respect and love for his peers, and today that seems to be a lost art.
I was a little kid in Charlotte when Greg left for WWF. I cried like a little kid.
Love Greg the hammer...he had the best way of falling down.... thanks for the years of entertainment Greg rocks
The Barber and The Hammer
U guys are legends.. Thank you for my childhood.
I am so glad that Brutus and Greg are still around. Such great wrestlers and great memories. Thanks for everything guys.
Greg Valentine such a calm talker !!
Greg is such a class act. I have watched several of his interviews on here, i don't believe i have heard him bad mouth any other wrestlers.
Greg keeps it REAL
Greg is an awesome guy. Really like him as a person.
And you know that how ? By one interview you brain 🧠
@@imawesome1822 no, I've watched him as a kid plus various interviews through the years. maybe he's an asshole. I guess you would know personally.
U know Greg usually speaks highly of other wrestlers. I really like listening to him great man n great wrestler had some of the best matches

He tells his stories with respect and doesn't talk shit.. A true gentleman and a damn good wrestler

Getting kicked in the face or having a toenail in your eye by Kevin doesn't sound fun.
