Digging Quartz Crystals - We Found The Source.

- Last fall, I was prospecting for pegmatites in the search of quartz crystals. I found what looked to be a promising location for them and we returned later on to dig in the area to see what we could find. However, the ground was half frozen and it ended up snowing the next day putting off our exploration until the fallowing summer.
As seen in the video, we returned and did a good amount of digging and discovered the quartz crystal source. The crystals are in vein/seams that cut across the aplite rock.
I hope you enjoy this video

Those crystals are gorgeous! Great job!
Yes they are, were hoping for bigger ones to pop out now out of there. Decent spot to find them. Glad you like it, thanks.
This is awesome you found the source! We love quartz!
Nothing beats a good day of rockhounding.
Looking forward to this season once the snow is gone and the semester is over.
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun, good job!
Yes we did, its always good to find something worthwhile even if its small. Most of the time, we search for hours and days in new locations and find nothing. We seem to find better things every year, hope that trend keeps going. Thanks.
I really like your videos. Wanted to be a geologist back in the early 80s but the powers that be at UNM told me I could attain a degree but finding a job in that field would require pure magic. Anyway, it's a fascinating science and you seem to know your stuff so keep filming the fun.
Thank you, I'm glad to see you like the videos. Geology is a fascinating and important science and the need for geologists and others that study in the field will always be needed. Its unfortunate that they talked you out of it, maybe at that time it was different. There is still time to learn and always will be.
Your subs have increased. Congratulations. Nice video.
Yes they have, I am happy to see that people like and support my content. I am hoping to improve for the future. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing! Sick finds!!!!!
You bet, thanks for watching
Wow that so amazing
I was planning to go to an old barite mine again (with quartz around). I felt a bit foolish just scraping dirt away with the point of my hammer couple days ago. After seeing your video it seems i havent been digging enough! Great video(s)
Sometimes what your looking for is right on the surface just waiting to be found and other times, you have to do some diggin. I hope you find what your looking for and thanks for watching.
Nice video!!
I love quartz crystals!!
Thank you! I am hoping we can find some more and I wonder if larger ones are located near or further down in the crystal seam.
@@GeoForge With perseverance and patience you will surely find more depth, I wish you to discover many large samples !!
Good luck my friend !!
@@GREEKEXPLORERS Thank you :)
Just found your channel & subscribed, gonna check out the rest of your channel, but what part of the country are you in ? Looks like you get into some nice stuff
Welcome to the channel. I'm Located in the pacific Northwest and I do most of my prospecting and rockhounding in Washington and Idaho.
Nice, I’ve done very little rockhounding out west, looks like you folks do alright out there, I follow quite a few rockhounds out that way
So a quick and irregular consultation, I found crystaline quartz(but not of stellar quality, or form). Am I now to find a large concentration of it to look for decent crystals?
I cant tell you if you will find large concentrations or good crystals because it depends on a lot of variables. If your finding some quartz crystals, that is a good location to at least spend some time in.
cool vid i have a playlist of some of my digs - what state yall in
Thank you, and we do most of our prospecting in Idaho
Hi I've found very similar quartz in NC. It large area that was logged years ago. People ride quads on trails. Most of the trails up the hills. Have huge amounts on trails. Trails on hills Wash out and quarts crystal everywhere. It's awesome. Digging it 😮😊
They looks amazing.. Do u have any tips for begginer on what kind of areas to look for them.. Ive hear a lot abt rivers but most of the ones on my area are small ones.. So i dont think i could find anything there
Rivers are a good place to check for stuff but I have yet to find crystals by starting in a river. Then again, I spend most of my time out of rivers. I would recommend researching to see what others have found near your location as a start. Otherwise, if you are searching for quartz crystals, you will need to find areas where quartz can be found. I use geologic maps to help me find places. Fault outcrops, and felsic plutonic rocks are good places to find quartz and potentially quartz crystals. I plan to make a video on this topic on some point but until then, let me know if you have anymore questions. The best thing to do is research and learn more and don't give up.
@@GeoForge nice, i might have to check them again and try the map. Thanks! And yes it could be great. Thank you
I found Smokey quartz
Nice job!
What state is this?
Is it just me, or can we see dozens of gold particles on the bottom of dugout ?
Those are likely micas you are seeing. I sure wish there was gold to be had in the pit too!
How do you know where to dig??
I look for signs on the surface like float quartz/rock, changes in rock composition and soil color. To locate a potential location to explore, I study several different maps to try to work out the best areas to go to. I plan on making a video about this topic eventually.
@@GeoForge TBH ive found veins before but hadnt had luck with them, being too thin. Quartz remains elusive for me, and ive found stuff like asbestos, garnets, staurolite, chalcedony in some capacity. A literal ton of calcite of all shapes and sizes. I have this spot that was very promising for quartz which I will visit june probably. It has proper clean veins in granite and in some soft material.
Dear I have same please tell me about this price
I have seen similar crystal plates like the ones I found here for sale in shops for prices of $10-$30 depending on size.
Broke a garnet lol
Are you referring to the rock at 5:33 ?
Did look like a garnet to me
