My dad actually has a pair of cufflinks that are bearings (so its like an O with a layer of beads, then another O) and the steel has been blued so they look pretty much like these but they spin.
Your attention to detail and amazing camera work make you so enjoyable to watch! Great work Chris, that blueing on the screws has a sapphire shine quality!
My 11 year old son and I stumbled onto your videos the other day and have now watched quite a few. However this video had him engrossed, especially the 'bluing' process. We're going to build a bluing tray too as he is desperate to have a go at it himself. Thankfully we are refurbishing his bike and we're going to do some of the hex bolts as they're small and simple to do. So even though this video may be 5 years old.... it's still inspiring minds today, no matter the age!
I was going to make a joke about you forgetting to polish the tiny screwdriver slot on the screw...and then you did. Lol. Always perfect Mr. Clickspring. 👍
You are so talented. I have crazy respect for your patience and dedication. This piece is absolutely priceless. Also the production value of your videos is amazing. Great lighting, camera work, as well as the editing and narration put this series among the best on youtube. Thanks for all your hard work!
Just started watching this series by recommendation from Adam Savage on his recent one day build. I'm glad he recommended it. I'm very impressed. Keep up the good work!
I've followed this clock series since it was posted on Reddit. I have to say, I've loved the production, but you're even more amazing at the videography aspect of it all. Perfect angles, transitions, speeds, and volume control. These are seriously high quality videos. I love content like this.
Chris, You would be the only person I know of who polishes the inside of the screw slot. I am humbled by your extraordinary workmanship and exquisite attention to detail.
Hi , it is so nice to see you use the what I call old fashioned techniques, my Father taught me and I improved for 4 years under a German horologist who taught me a lot on antique restoration, I started officially in 1964 at 15 and although I am kind of retired I still make the parts, the modern horologist mainly only know how to order parts, I have introduced four into the trade and they all carry on the old methods brush and chalk and such like, and all have their own businesses, it is a pleasure to watch you work,I live in Dorchester Dorset UK,
I'm coming back to rewatch this series, just because. That moment at 7:40 when you held the scriber in front of the polished screw head to show the reflection provoked a few short, Saxon words from me. The finish is just ridiculously good at that scale.
As someone who hasn't done much metalwork (but want to do some bladesmithing when I get the facilities), you are INSANE. Much respect for your commitment to doing everything properly, from scratch...now I want to buy a lathe...
Watching this video, I couldn't help thinking how much could be applied to re-finishing some vintage watches I restore. I've often watched in awe as some cases were refurbished on large flat lapping machines, but it's very intriguing to see something smaller receiving the same treatment. Achieving a factory finish on watch cases is definitely an art, but it's clear that it can be done! Thank you for sharing your work.
The amount of detail you do for the simplest things in your work are absolutely amazing, what took you the better part of a day or two for just four screws, that will probably never be seen buy your buyers, is artwork in its self. I could waste days watching you work.
Your work is simply phenomenal. The attention to detail and the skills demonstrated are of a true craftsman. A jewler would be proud to own a piece of your work.
your technique for the bluing is by far the most usefull ive been able to find. i dabble in making industrial themed jewelry and yeilded brilliant results. thanks for your vids
That clock face is looking very sharp. The filed screw slot came out perfect. I'm still amazed with the level of finish. Polishing the underside of the screw and the threads. Wow.
I have watched quite a few of your videos and I always marvel at the astonishing level of workmanship but the bluing is the most impressive. Those screws turned out a glorious deep blue and the fact that you achieved that just by careful heating is even more amazing.
I just watched the whole series and the level of craftsmanship is amazing. The high speed machining is some of the best machining video work I've seen! Thanks to NYC CNC for the link!
i can sit down and watch your videos for hours straight! your level of detail is one thing, but your attention to fine video makes it a pleasure to watch.. please keep them coming!!
Webster, we’ve found a more perfect definition of perfectionism! Take a picture of one of these screws, edit it to perfection, and hey presto perfectionism is more accurately defined than the second!
Amazing to watch such detail and attention being applied to parts that aren't even visible. These are little bits of beautiful perfection that hopefully someone will appreciate when they inherit this one day. You are legend!
And these parts are pretty much hidden. Bravo for superior craftsmanship, I'm sure you have multiple days in a part that could be bought off-the-shelf, but not at this quality. Beautiful!
Great work. I've been thinking of getting a Sherline lathe, though do not have any machining experience. If I ever manage work that is even one quarter as good as yours, I will be quite happy!
Hey Chris, I recently bought a small lathe. I made a screw similar to how you have demonstrated! My Chinese dye set failed me, however the results were very satisfying. Thanks for what you do!
AvE sent me. That crazy canook ... I have zero desire to make a scratch clock but the precision and skill, along with captureing just made me subscribe. Awesome work, keep it up ;)
I've only just found your video's, and you have me captivated (I've binge watched the clock making episodes up until this one just in case that wasn't obvious haha), I'm a boilermaker by trade (probably called a metal smith, plate smith or fabricator is other countries) and I love the accomplishment of working on a project from beginning to end and seeing the final product, so far I've worked on large projects such as a 300 foot diameter Ferris wheel, and I feel as though your video's are slowly helping teach me the fine art of machining fine parts, which I only ever intend to use for my own personal enjoyment.
And a personal reply! you may also notice that you have earned yourself a patreon supporter as well, I can't afford much, but I feel your content on youtube alone is well worth paying for, my excitement and learning you have even more content for patreon supporters (which i only figured out after supporting) makes it all the more worthwhile! thank you.
It's amazing how much detail goes into something so small. Wish that level of quality was a bit more widely used in general products. Great to watch again Chris
I've never seen anything similar, the amount of effort and care put into each piece is astounding. Your videos are a machinist wet dream. Really hoping to see it finished. Subscribed.
What how did you make an empty comment??

Polishing the insides of the screws is a bit like leaving a message on the backside of a postage stamp when you mail a letter. :-)
+ExtantFrodo2 Beautifully put EF!
Clickspring
I thought later to change that to "leaving a love note on the backside of a postage stamp" but I was already in bed.
Ohhh... you like to half-ass stuff ....I see.🤨 ....That's what a bitch does 🤔
Wouldn't it help with not marring the surface underneath?
@@ExtantFrodo2 But it IS there. You know that it is there. That’s perfection 😉👍🖖
Im tempted to buy a screw from you, just so I can marvel at its beauty.
I bet these screws make fantastic cufflinks.
I'm with this guys. I want a blue screw so I can just stare at the detail and craftsmanship and effort that went into that alone.
Brendan Bush I'm with you all...my new favourite blue and shine...awesome work.
My dad actually has a pair of cufflinks that are bearings (so its like an O with a layer of beads, then another O) and the steel has been blued so they look pretty much like these but they spin.
Brendan Bush awesome. 👍🏼😊

Just watched an almost 10 minute video on making some screws. Life achievement. Great video
this guy is a master of the fiddly bits.

I wanted to watch a movie this evening... but I ended up watching 11 parts of this and maybe more. .___.
same here.
Im just entranced by that blue color, it's so cool that it's just the result of heat.

The photography is outstanding.
That's Awsome... the "One Million Dollar Screw" ;)
Pretty Cool !!!
That's a lot of work for a screw. I expected the slots to be clocked evenly. Straight up and down or left to right. Great work.
Nice job, well done, thanks for sharing with us.
Each piece of this clock is a work of art in itself. It just blows my mind. Love the series can't wait for more!
