What's the use of projecting them on RUclips, when - they are so distorted with format crippling Widescreen - that they look as if they are being reflected in a house-of-silly-mirrors, at a sideshow on Coney Island ? Whoever is responsible, will you please project them as they were until recently; ergo in Cinema format, otherwise they aren't worth watching ?

He should have had a career, starring in his own films. **But he's out of place here; Charlie's son provided enough comic relief.

What a surprise! I think I've watched 15 of Charley Chan's videos, around NewYear!
Great stories, a fine sense of humour, suspense, and a peek into a world long gone by, but what elegant clothes people wear.
And the design of automobiles, beautiful 🤩 To the person publishing these videos, muchos gracias 👋🧙‍♀️

Mantan Moreland was great in these Charlie Chan movies!! I think one of the last shows i saw him act in was Adam-12, the police drama series, produced by Jack Webb in the 1980s.

He was great as a comic, but the CC series of films were overloaded with comic content between him and Charlie's son. Check out his work with Ben Carter, who was also fine comedian and unfortunately died young.

There were three principal actors playing Charlie Chan himself. Warner Oland, Sidney Toler, and Roland Winters. Winters is all but forgotten today. He was all right himself, but he was no match for the legacy of Oland and Toler. My own favorite is Sidney Toler, the master of gentle and loving sarcasm toward his screwball son. My kinda guy.

People are increasingly complaining about the wrong aspect ratio being used, where everyone looks like they weigh 400-plus pounds. I agree, and I think that it should stop.

It used to be said that 'people look fatter in TV'. *But that came from stretching the image to fit the screen. Not a good idea; we can handle the black edges on the left and right, just as we did in the older movie houses.

James Earl Jones once portrayed the British King Lear and no one dared complain. Many Jewish actors have portrayed Nazi officers. Many darker-haired actors have portrayed American Indians. **That's why it's called ACTING.

This movie was not meant to be projected in Widescreen format. That's why everyone looks as if they are seen, as if reflected in a distorting mirror on a Coney Island crazy-show ! Will the person who changed this format, restore it to the way it was meant to be projected please ? Mike Todd hadn't left grade school already, when this movie was shot, in Hollywood ! Who wants to see actors looking as if they have got legs the size of tree-trunks ? This is nothing short of vandalism, by *Overtures and Beginners*. Older people of my 1940s vintage, don't want to see our old favourites messed about like this; aside from that, it is nothing short of stupid. See how some of you would like Elvis looking like this, and see how Dumb it looks ! Widescreen was a late-Fifties gimmick that came-and-went; for Heaven's sake, let it die, and be done with. It doesn't work on *real* Hollywood movies of the 30s and 40s, like this one is !

I just don't understand why they couldn't find a talented Chinese or Chinese-American actor to play the part of Charlie Chan. Neither Warner Oland nor Sidney Toler are really convincing as Chinese characters, and sometimes the effect is cringe-making, when they come off more as caricatures of Chinese men.
