Great video as always Squidge. Thank you for never failing to mention Frizzels terrible past. The fact he's able to play international rugby is a stain on the game A couple of things I'd like to add that pair with that first scorching 20 minutes by NZ. I think we saw the issue with splitting the squad, the last time we did this was before the RWC in 2019 which was when we still played Super Rugby and majority of the squad was around having decent match fitness. This time De Allende, Eben etc a large portion of the starting team were either on the comeback trail from injury or hadn't had a decent hit out in awhile due to where they play club rugby. With New Zealand executing so fast and brilliantly in that opening 20 these players were pulled apart. I'm not saying NZ wouldnt have scored those 20 points if they were fit, because they were that good but its food for thought Another point I'd raise and I know you don't like to focus too much on referees or that kind of thing however in terms of a little bit of skullduggery New Zealand was employing a cheeky tactic on the lineouts. One was to have the hooker step off the mark towards his own side, ref caught it once and awarded a free kick to SA, rest of the time he got away with it. Secondly was how the ABs blocked mauls upon the SA Jumper coming down, basically sealing off parts which is illegal too. Now it happens fairly quickly so it not being caught everytime is understandable but I'd put it down to Jason Ryans cleverness around forward play in general. These are the kinds of dark arts that if you're not being called out on by the Ref why wouldn't you employ it? Ryan now knows that 1. It works 2. That in any given knockout game his forwards can cheekily test the water early doors to see if the officials stop it. Its quite the clever edge even though it annoyed me to no end to see it happen. Before any haters call me out, Yes I know all teams employ some kind of silliness on the field like this to gain an edge, including the Boks who I do see playing the fool too
The experiment of Willemse in the Boks should be well and truly over. Reminds me of the Wallabies persisting with James O'Connor at 10 during the Lions series. Both talented players that have been touted for their "X-factor" but go largely missing in high pressure games when you need a flyhalf the most.
It wasn't an experiment we all know that Willemse is the best fullback in SA the reason he pick him at flyhalve is to keep the overated Pollard's place save because he knows if he plays the best flyhalve in SA Manie Libbok there's no way back for Pollard
@@chumamngungane646 why he is the best fullback in South Africa but that racist Rassie Erasmus would rather pick an old and overated Willie le Roux there because they have no trust and faith in our players of colour.
@@PatrickDedericks He's not close to being the best fullback for SA, and the stats confirm that. Comments like these are a dime a dozen over the years, punters watching club rugby and thinking it translates to internationals. Elton, Goosen, Lambie, Willemse... The Boks remind me about my grandfather's John Deer tractor. Great difficulty to it start up but hard to stop the engine once it fires on all cylinders.

Respect to our South African brothers - always fighting to the end and Squidge bro, I always have to slow yr vids down slightly to catch everything yr saying dont know if its my ears or brain lol - kiaora bro!
Yeah unfortunately it's a recurring thing with Nisbett, he gets players mixed up even when they're NZ players he is very familiar with so don't take it as a slight against the boks! I think most of us in NZ look past it because he is such a legend (300+ test matches called, NZ Order of Merit).
Because Jacques Nienaber was not built for this. He was thoroughly rinsed last weekend by a superior coaching team. This explains his 58% win record as head coach.
As a South African imho the ABs just played better and had the better strategy. The Boks were asleep during the first half. Woke up in the 2nd but by then it was too late. You cant be caught that unaware by the ABs. They will punish you and make you pay for it.
In NZ, we see NZ vs SA as a battle of organisation vs chaos, power against speed. Our commentators are scared of the boks power in tight areas. But our forwards have great footwork to change the angles in their hit-ups so we run at weaker shoulders. NZ used to be the most skilful team and I still believe we are, across the park. Our hookers have the footwork of backs and our props can offload out the back of their hands. But the other teams have somewhat closed the gap. But where some teams may have exceeded is in pure athleticism. The key to beating NZ is combining power and speed. It’s why Ireland and England have beaten us in recent years. SA have also done so on some occasions.
I think there is something at play here. During the SA vs AUS game, we saw the absolute havoc that a specialist jumper (Jean Klein) could wreak on opposition source ball. Klein was immensley effective at dirtying AUS line-out effecacy. And Klein isn't even a regular starter in the springbok jersey. Now fast forward to the SA vs NZ game, where we know very well, we are facing a team that THRIVES on quick source ball (whether it be rucks, scrums or line-outs). AND WE CHOSE TO GIVE "NZ" **FREE*** LINE-OUT BALL. This was done even outside of our 22-line (where it could be argued that competing at the line-out compromises the defence again a try-mual. We had the tall timber in Mostert, Lood AND Eben...but we just chose to gift clean source ball (at the line-out) to NZ. Now, Rassie and the folks are not DUM. I think there is something truly at play here @ShepherdLamrani. 3D Chess maybe ? Maybe? A ploy to purposely give NZ the best line-out source ball (which is arguably the best for set-attack moves), to allow NZ to reveal how they plan to work the ball around the field in unlocking their defence. Then maybe from there, patch up SA defence for RWC2023. There were also other areas of the game where SA seemed "purposely absent."
They also didn't do many box kicks. Didn't offload in the tackle as well. Didn't maul with variety. They kept alot in their pocket. They are capable of much more. They thought the game plan they had would beat the ABs but the ABs were really good. Come WC we will definitely see a better bok team. Although Rassie may still keep things close to his chest.
@@buhlehlophe3941 yes, I know the coaches are not dumb, but I was just wondering since in the game against Australia we were competing in the line out. I feel like we could have won some to many line outs against New Zealand.
@@ShepherdLamrani If we showed them the plans that he has to beat them then they can prepare for it. They thought that the 4th gear would be enough to win but was mistaken as the ABs were excellent and had the correct game plan. Add to that poor defense and rustyness from DDA, Willemse, Bongi, Lood and Mapimpi and you get the result we got. Just those players above mistakes were responsible for a lot of the damage they inflicted.
Loved the video ; very well done. But as a kiwi I must point out that at the beginning your first slide had the score at 25-20 not 35-20. We cannot be only beating the boks by 5 points.
I'm not reading into the ABs win too much, our boy's played bloody well against a top SA side. We had everything going right for us in that first 20 giving us a great buffer but we all know that the next time they meet it could be a different story. Can they back it up again against Australia, we should by the last results of both sides. Good luck to all in the next round.
The boks purposely played Willimse to put him in the most hostile, pressured rugby environment you could possibly hope for to see how he would react. Its a big problem because it would be nice to have a place in the team for him, but its not at 10 especially as it means the team is without a goal kicker.
Great analysis, the shorter kicks from ABs 22 immediately struck me as I was watching but I didn't pick up on the inversion where they kicked longer once inside the boks 50. FYI Frizell wasn't actually convicted - charges were dropped after he completed diversion.

As a bokke fan I think the main issue is the locks and back row. Our whole game plan is based on physically and mentally breaking down the opponent at the break down and in tackles and slowing their ball so the backs have plenty of time to react in defence. And in attack we wear them down then spin it wide to am cheslin mapimpi and le roux. At the moment the pack is not dominant in the contact area and just genuinely look a step behind what we were in 2019 and that has a trickle down effect. Handre no longer being fit means we’re messing around with 10 too much and le roux has to take on too many things in attack and we become predictable.
Apart from a sublime 20 mins from ABs this was pretty close. SB made some crucial and uncharacteristic unforced errors. That said, it is nice to see the ABs plans coming through. Finally
Yeah I wouldn't write off SA's chances yet. It was a mountain for them to climb after that first 20 min, but I'm sure the next time they play NZ they could beat them.
Go bokka, it was a game we needed to lose, so that we can understand how much we really need Handre to be fit or at least another very good flyhalf😊, we hv got this, the world cup is ours
@@sunlightliquid8420 We wont win it. If we have any shot, we have to play pollard, reolace De Allende with Willemse or Esterhuizen. We also need to replace mapimpi with Arendse and we need to rethink our starting locks and lock combinations as well as who the hell is going to be our 6 and 7.
I like how Frizzle made extra effort not to step on the defender. He could’ve and then claimed he was off balance which he was but decided to hop scotch over the defender.
combination of good play subtle gamesmanship forward passes and moving the lineout throw mark. All normal a good game that went the ABs way on the day.
Was it really necessary to include such a sexist comment encouraging brutality against women by saying "leaving him bloody and bruised like a woman he just met in a night club"?
It's something Frizell really did. He beat up a woman he met in a nightclub, beat up her friend, then tracked down her contact details and threatened to kill her. I personally don't think it should be forgotten or ignored, because this comments section suggests quite a few people didn't know that, and most coverage doesn't seem to bring it up.
Well played All Blacks - deserved win. Just a quick question - should black 13 not have been penalised for obstruction after Will Jordan was tackled? He was running in between Jordan and the defence to allow him the time and space to get back up. 🤔 Nie heeltemal oortuig die Bokke het voluit gespeel nie, wie weet, miskien is daai ou jakkals afrigter besig om hulle 'n poep te voer - kom ons hoop maar so! 🤣
Nope. A player is allowed their spot/line on the field unless they do something obvious to impeded the opposition. There were other players who could have stopped him also.
It's easy, South Afdica did not exit the locker room for the first 30 minutes. Feet of clay, not All Black excellence. The USA Eagles could have scored two tries against that flat-footed defense.
I wasn't in the least bit concerned when the " bomb squad" had an effect, we lost the 3rd quarter, but then resumed control and finished over the top of them. Good mental strength. It doesn't mean anything really in the RWC context, but better to win than lose, and a good step forward.

This time De Allende, Eben etc a large portion of the starting team were either on the comeback trail from injury or hadn't had a decent hit out in awhile due to where they play club rugby. With New Zealand executing so fast and brilliantly in that opening 20 these players were pulled apart. I'm not saying NZ wouldnt have scored those 20 points if they were fit, because they were that good but its food for thought
Another point I'd raise and I know you don't like to focus too much on referees or that kind of thing however in terms of a little bit of skullduggery New Zealand was employing a cheeky tactic on the lineouts.
Ryan now knows that
1. It works
Both talented players that have been touted for their "X-factor" but go largely missing in high pressure games when you need a flyhalf the most.
rather use Willemse as a replacement utility back i dont know if he should start
It wasn't an experiment we all know that Willemse is the best fullback in SA the reason he pick him at flyhalve is to keep the overated Pollard's place save because he knows if he plays the best flyhalve in SA Manie Libbok there's no way back for Pollard
@@chumamngungane646 why he is the best fullback in South Africa but that racist Rassie Erasmus would rather pick an old and overated Willie le Roux there because they have no trust and faith in our players of colour.

from new zealand - your blessed bro - thanks for the videos
One of your best vids mate, keep them coming please!
Why didn’t South Africa contest in the line out? Was this part of their game plan?
@@DD-RSA Yes, but why didn’t they? Like you said we are capable of so much more, was rassie taking this game to try different things?

I have one request. Please can you do one more video, this video vs how the boks changed things to beat AB in Twickenham
