Chinese wuxia games are very different to those of Western/Japanese RPGs. Playing them for the first time may be rather jarring, but will surely expand our gaming horizons.
Sword And Fairy 7 truly is a gorgeous game, I've always had a deep love for Chinese mythology and environments and this game's just what I'd been looking for, I'd even go so far as saying SAF7 is one of the prettiest Oriental games I've ever played, and there's some great looking games out there like Ghost Of Tsushima for example. But despite this game not having the graphics as AAA titles, SAF 7 captures a sense of magic and awe with its beautiful environments and equally beautiful music, the details they managed to fit into every inch of the game is truly special and you can tell they really tried their hardest to make it feel alive and memorable. I truly hope this game grows a cult following, as it really deserves more attention. Great review! hope to see more people playing and reviewing this game.
I love it when you guys take the time to highlight these niche games. I personally have been exposed to some great games that I otherwise would've never heard of, thanks to you. Keep up the fantastic work!
Thats true, the game provides satisfying graphic quality, gameplay and storyline. I really enjoyed it, felt like watching a chinese drama. You wont regret playing this game.
6h in and I'm ENJOYING IT 100%!!! Just a beautiful beautiful game... graphics, MUSIC, and STORY! Just wow! I really wish there would be more games like that! I'm impressed really!
I'm currently playing this game and coming fresh out of the admittedly quite awesome Final Fantasy XVI I actually like Sword and Fairy 7 even more. Gameplaywise both games are relatively similar, but Sword and Fairy is just way nicer to look at and, at least so far, has a story that is a bit more to my personal taste. Also Sword and Fairy 7 has so many game elements that nowadays are often not included in RPGs anymore. For example, the game has a pretty involved card game. It's not super easy, but once I had understood how it works I was relatively hooked. Also you can let your characters cook and eat food that causes certain effects. There is a blacksmith in the game who can enhance your weapons, and so on. My personal favorite may very well be a kind of precise jumping, balance game where you have to go to a certain fairy (and I am using the word "fairy" very loosely in this case) who summons a course made of giant, swinging and dancing leafs, at the end of which you can find some treasure. Speaking of summoning, this game allows you to find and make a contract with spirits, who do kind of act like summons in other games would as they help in battle. The difference is that these spirits are constant companions and do not need to be summoned as they are always there. The world is stunning, the soundtrack one of the best I have ever heard...... it is very good in my opinion.
Was a nice game to go through. Beautiful graphics, epic edgy cutscenes and nice looking zones. There's indeed a lot of chatter, forcing you to either stand still until they're done, or walk very slowly. I'm usually not into Chinese games, Japanese is more my jam, especially language-wise + the English localisation was often quite poor, even in the trophy descriptions there are some errors and double spaces. The lack of background behind the subs was also troublesome at times, though it was nice to be able to make the subs larger. Another thing that is noticable is how the music shifts/stops very abruptly in zones and in cutscenes, a fade-out would've made it feel more polished. All in all, if you like action RPG's, it's still a very good game to enjoy :>
I grew up watching 50-60 episode Chinese fantasy epics, so I'm very used to Eastern long winded story telling. Actually, one show I loved was a live TV adaptation of the first Sword and Fairy game. Although I'm familiar with the franchise, I've never played one. S&F7 just got announced for the PS5 and I'll definitely be picking it up.
It didn't go under my radar first day it came out I downloaded it I've beaten it twice and have over 100 hours in it the ending made me so sad its definitely one of my favorite rpgs. I listen to the OST religiously everyday the title theme is my ringtone lol.

I have played all of them. The leap from 6 to 7 is actually SHOCKING. I appreciate me AA Rpg's from asia and europe, so im able to forgive short comings as long as its not game breaking. This is the case here, i can forgive problems becuase of how MASSIVE the leap from 6 to 7 is. I urge any hater to play 6, then 7. The progress is amazing and pt 8 will be magical. The criticism of too long cut scenes is understandable but ANY Anime rpg fan, wont have issue. Its not that bad and its good, the story is GOOD! I pray and hope that we get a better translation tho its the main issue. It needs work but i guess thats a budget thing. This reminds me of a chinese MMORPG in many ways, and i like that. swords of legends, thats it.
I started it but I want them to update the translations a bit more because the menus were almost incomprehensible to me...I refunded it but the next time it goes on sale I'll try it again. As China slowly takes over everything they're going to really need to bow to the need for good translations for these amazing games. That or just drop the mask, take everyone over, and give us compulsory immersion language training.
