You'll understand that it is totally normal to lack a bit when you're a rookie, plus I think Minseo is a bit excited too; since she was able to debut with a song produced by Yoon Jong Shin and ranked 1st in many charts, she probably wanted to meet the expectations with her live performance.
The mics used are actually pretty sensitive. If you ever sang a song before, you would know that to maintain a phrase and a section of the song, you would need a large amount of air. True there are techniques that can let you diminish this requirement, but as someone who understands her position, this song (in particular, jesus christ Yoon Jong Shin, why did you make this song so god damn hard ;_;) requires an immense amount of air to actually perform. The inhaling is part of the live performance. And in ballads, the background music is very soft and mellow which actually brings out the breathing sounds more than normal. Songs by pop groups like BTS, SEVENTEEN, Big Bang, EXO, etc, those songs are very electro pop and has a much harsher background music which actually hides the breathing sounds. Even vocal heavy groups such as MAMAMOO or BTOB can cover their breathing with the background music. Actually the original version of this song by Yoon Jong Shin, he also has a harsher background music compared to MinSeo's version so he can cover it as well. But check out solo performances from Immortal Songs and you would know that breathing in into a mic actually captures a lot. And also in a live performance of a song that is based on lost love or of such sorts, breathing in actually can help with the message trying to be sent. As for her singing skills, some might think that she is average. Which she may be, but we as non-singers of this K-Pop industry can't really justify our reasoning and we also have no right to talk this way at all. Give her time and I can assure you that she will be the next IU or the next SoHyang. Maybe even the female version of Park Hyo Shin. Who knows.
