- After Regular Show ended the creator JG Quintel created a new show called Close Enough. But dispite having really positive reviews Close Enough was cancelled before it reached its full potential. So let's take a look and see just what happened to Close Enough.

I mean, you gotta give it to High Guardian Spice, clearly at least someone on that team tried a little. High Guardian Spice may be bad, but Velma is way worse. At least that show it not based on a pre-existing IP; ruining all of your beloved characters and insulting its audience.

At least Close Enough still has one more season than Velma. I would be nothing but shocked if Velma got a third season.
Passing up anything for Velma is crazy, but passing up an ACTUAL GOOD SHOW is actually heartbreaking 😭

I know. Zaslav really is only about the business. I've heard one cartoon creator describe this sort of canning as "zaslaving" and underline it's unbelievable how many contracts and shows have been "zaslaved". I couldn't agree more.

Close Enough did something refreshing for an adult animated show and didn't rely heavily on cussing, sex jokes, or other kinds of juvenile "adult" humor to be funny. It was subtle with most of the humor coming from the scenarios and not from the sex jokes
lol, no. Close enough was a mediocre adult animated series. Nothing new, nothing fresh. Regular show had been leagues above in creativity and writing. I am glad Close enough died. Quintel has an opportunity to move to better things.

Velma still existing, while Close Enough being banished to the shadow realm is an example that the world is not fair and we can rarely get what we want and need.

You can still purchase the first two seasons on RUclips but sadly season 3 is no longer available to watch fully (legally)

To be fair, it wasn't 2nd season of Velma, it was season 1 part 2 that was fashioned into the season 2. Every production contract was signed before the backlash.
Not only was it canceled like a week after season 3 dropped. It was completely removed. Most people didn't even have time to watch season 3

Close enough was the closest i feel to an adult swim show for the generations who grew up with the regular show. It was so good and highly underrated

I think 7-8 seasons really should be the limit on all shows. Maybe 2-3 movies after that. A complete story is always better than a zombie story.
I'd say 10 seasons in very rare occasions. Some shows like Adventure Time are packed with filler episodes that are still enjoyable, but is overall extremely lore centric
This show was originally supposed to be broadcast on TBS, but then they delayed the release of this show by about 2 years to when HBO Max would be launched. That alone was a massive sign of things, and would ultimately be a very huge mistake that should not go understated.
Not mistakes. Plans to brain-dead audiences into buying more stupid stuff that, in all logic, kill them from obsolescence! How can you take money from a dead body if it can't go through the door and wait in line?

They don't produce American Dad, Fox does, TBS just aired reruns
@@Cinemactik FOX literally cancelled the show in 2014 and TBS started airing original episodes that same year. In fact, there are more TBS episodes than FOX episodes.

I really liked the show. I was sad to hear it was not only cancelled, but that it wasn’t even going to be on HBO Max/Max platform anymore. One day it just left my cue and I was bummed.
I hate that they canceled it, but to pull it completely...Warner Bros has forever been tarnished. Everything theyve done in the last 5-7 years has been awful for creators and viewers.

My wife and I loved this show. The writing, comedy, and how relatable it was make it a must watch.
Also, final space is a hidden gem of a show. My wife and I were hooked on it. We watched it the same time we were watching close enough. If you haven't, do yourself a favor and watch final space.
It got canceled for no reason. I used to love smoking weed and watching regular show in my teen years. I watched close enough , same way and it was awesome. I live in la too so seeing the place just made me feel at home

I'm sad it was cancelled. I wanted to get into it like I did with Regular Show. Regular Show and Adventure Time shaped my young adult era and honestly those two shows did heavy lifting.
For anyone asking why Velma continued but this got cancelled, it’s simply because Velma was a bigger deal. Everyone knew about Velma and tons of people hate watched it to the point that a second season made sense financially.
Close enough was good, but it wasn’t good enough to get noticed outside of the animation community.
In hindsight, it feels lime a show fit for an Apple TV rather than an HBO Max

I got this video recommended for me and I've been dreading watching it, so I've been avoiding it. It makes me so upset to think about Close Enough now. I absolutely loved Close Enough and I will never forgive WBD for canceling and removing it as well as the other countless programs they tossed away for a tax write off. I didn't even get to watch season 3 since they almost immediately canceled and removed it after the 3rd season came out. The fact that Velma was made and is getting a second season yet things like Close Enough and the spiritual successor to Batman the Animated Series got axed is insane! I'm glad the Batman show is not moving to Amazon, but it would be awesome if the same would happen for Close Enough.

Loved Close Enough, it was a show my wife and I would watch together. It was the highlight to our week when the new episode dropped.

Close Enough has such a perfect balance of nonsensical situations and normal human reactions. Even the crazy characters like Alex and Randy feel grounded in their emotional scenes

Don't forget that controversy can sell more than no conversation at all and this is all they end up caring about. Support an actual good show on the same week of release and speak about it a lot innsocial media so they get the message. And ignore trash fire shows manufactured to be loud and create noise for clout. Those aren't worth a second season or even attention.

Great video it reminded me of how great the show actually was.
I didn't have high expectations of the show, but once I watched it I was hooked
That's actually a great way to look at it: Regular Show was most relatable for young adults, while Close Enough dives into the next stage in life. Close Enough was actually a good show, and the fact that they cancelled it but kept Velma is pretty sad. If you think about it, I see Close Enough as a mix of Regular Show, Family Guy, and Rick and Morty, in ways.
This just proves that animation departments/studios attached to big names like Max, Netflix, and even Disney, aren’t gonna thrive anymore. I feel like the only real way we’ll get quality shows (and not soulless cash grabs) like Close Enough, Beastars, and Final Space itself is to start supporting animators directly. There’s definitely a risk that comes with crowdfunding, but I feel like we could all get behind supporting established animators and their teams. It’ll also make viewers feel closer to creators, which in turn can garner more funding/support. I mean, instead of paying up to $20 a month for Max or any other stale platform for only a few shows I actually like, I’d prefer to shill out $5-$10 monthly to the people who make my favorite animations with love and passion. It’s just a matter of getting viewers on board.

I do really hold out hope that one day(I don’t expect any time soon), that Close Enough along with Infinity Train get the justice they deserve and both get renewed for new seasons. If we don’t ever get a new season the least I would want is some spin off featuring Bridgette because she was my favorite character on the whole show.

I was never really a regular show fan when it was coming out. No particular reason just wasn’t really my thing, but when close enough came out on HBO Max, my partner who was a huge regular show fan asked if we could watch it together and I found myself totally into it. I related to all of the characters and everything that was going on, I was so upset when it was canceled.
This is why when i become w animator i am just going to pitch my show on RUclips. Streaming network cancel shows too quickly.

The show itself is meh, but thats the one thing i don't like about it. Why do the showrunners insist on making the scooby doo gang being teens when its clear they've been (young) adults pretty much since their creation.

Man, I'm in my mid 30s and I started a job last year that makes me feel like I'm a character in regular show. I've been watching JG works since 2 in the AMPM and I don't think I've ever felt more like I'm in my early 20s than I do now.
Part of close enough not airing in 2017 was also the Louie CK and his me too stuff since he was supposed to have a show that aired along side close enough, but they cancelled his show due to his incident.

The lightning in a bottle effect that Regular Show made could not be recreated in Close Enough.... It's that simple...it sucked compared to Regular Show.
Personally I was never a Regular Show fan (no strong opinion either way) but LOVED Close Enough. It legit became my comfort show. When I'm not feeling well I had it on in the back ground, if new company was coming over it played, when I needed a laugh and to feel cozy IT WAS ON
I will forever be mad that this show was canned. Too many shows were given the cut, the biggest loss I think was Infinity Train (THE LAST SEASON IS LITERALLY ALL WRITTEN) and if I win the lottery that's one of the first self-serving things I would do.

I was in my teens watching regular show. Now late 20s/engaged watching close enough. I almost want to say im enjoying close enough more than regular show, but it could be because of how much it currently relates to my life.

For even better clarification Big corporation HBO Max decided to cut a bunch of shows and write them off as bankruptcy. That way they didn't lose any money on shows like close enough just to produce shows like Velma with low quality. Save me humor

I can not stress enough how much the cancellation bugs me. I loved the show from the moment my girlfriend introduced it to me. We still watch whenever we can. But 3 seasons is way too short for this. This show deserved at least as long a run as Regular Show. If not more.

Close Enough was one of the very, VERY, few "adult" comedy series that actually were fun and funny.
We'll get more Close Enough when the overlords recoup their dumbass self inflicted losses.

I don't think there was any question as to why close enough was cancelled, it was an unfortunate victim of Max's content purge under the management of David Zaslav. Although I do think the show, like every other Max original, was horribly marketed.
