Judging from this interview, Hikaru seems to be quite confused, unable to calculate the long lines and accurately evaluate the positions. Not a good sign from someone who was supposed to be one of the favourites to win. Vidit has made him look like an amateur in both games.
"One of the favorites", he is the oldest player, which means he had the most chances playing candidates, only played twice, never led the tournament and even when two players went to the WCC he didn't even get second place. Don't get me wrong, he is an amazing chess player, but apart from blitz/bullet online he is mostly a top 10 player, Nepo, Caru are ahead, and probably Gukesh/Pragg/Firo are possibly better already, but even if not, they will soon be better.
