    I always take a look at the clearance sections first. These plants love getting a second chance.

    Wow, what a difference it made, by cutting off the dead leaves. Looks like a whole new ponytail palm. Great find and great job rehabbing the plant😊

    Lowes is taking all my money. I stopped by yesterday hoping for nothing good on the discount rack... left $60 lighter 😢😂. However I did rescue a Philodendron Brazil plant that was really thirsty, so I'm super thrilled about that.

    I love rescuing plants and head to the clearance section first. Last year I purchased two rescue plants for 25¢ each and today they are both thriving. I also go a heart shaped leaf philodendron for free and she is also doing well.

    My favorite plant to rescue is the peace lily . I've rescued several. Usually the only thing wrong is that they're under watered. I had a massive one that I had nursed back to health. It was stolen 😭 . I got another rescue late last summer. It's going to be just as big and beautiful.

    The best advice I can give you is get a moisture meter it’s a great device and will greatly help you know when to water a plant,I’ve used mine for ages and never have a problem with when to water.❤

    There is a certain sense of satisfaction when you nurse a plant back to health. One of my neighbors is moving out of the country and just dropped off all her houseplants at my house. They were in pretty sad shape. Several were beyond hope and had to be tossed. One that I felt was worth saving was, by coincidence, a ponytail palm. I did exactly what you did. Cut off dead, removed the stinky soggy soil, repotted it in some nice, fresh soil. Now the wait begins to see if it recovers. If not, well, I tried!

    I rescued a Thaumatophyllum and a dracaena a few years ago and today they are huge and thriving. Totally worth the $15 I spent on each of them.
    I bought a pony tail palm from a small shop that just repotted it. I decided to check out its roots and it had root rot! I couldn’t believe they sold it knowing it’s roots weren’t healthy.

    I am a avid fan of Ponytail palm rehabs and I only use a Bonsai mix I get from Home Depot on all of mine because it is so easy for people to over water a Ponytail palm and kill it in the first two weeks of owning it. I'm not sure all the soils Repot me carries but I'd definitely look for Bonsai mix cause its very very very well draining and not retaining much moisture at all. To tell if your palm needs water look for the under skirting leaves to have one or two turn brown then you know your Palm is thirsty. If your palm has browning from the top to the bottom of its leaves you have over watered it. Hope that helps anyone new to this regal chic plant.

    I have many rehabs. Most recover but may take time. They give me something to do during winter😂. Begonias are the most satisfying and succulents are fun. Now I look for interesting plants or those with nice pots whether they live or die.

    i went to my local b&q and the man there was so nice to give for free 3 plants 2 did past but one was a bonsai that someone actually returned because they over watered it in the wrong soil been with me for a month and its giving me new leaves but also you should try growing a avocado its rewarding as well

    Good informative video. But I think the dry leaves may be that the plant was rootbound and could not take up water when get watered. Rot root does not give dry leaves.

    I wish I were that lucky. My big box stores are pathetic. I wish I could find a plant with just lower leaves that are aged to just trim off. At our stores, you are lucky to even find a plant with one good leaf on it mind you. It's crazy here.......not worth it. I buy mostly full price plants since clearance ones are so so sad :((

    What should I do if my snake plant has brown roots

    • @samcresp5440
      @samcresp5440 Год назад

      Give them a wipe. If it’s staining from the soil then they’re fine. If they’re wet feeling, squishy and stink, it’s rot. They need to trimmed back and hold off on the watering until the soil is fully dry. If there’s no salvageable roots, you might need to propagate the plant. There should be plenty of guides online on how to.

    Hey Ashley… can you explain how you sterilize the original pot it was in. I’m a new plant mama and just brought several plants a week ago only to realize they were sitting in water for god knows how long 😢. I just got my Repotme mix and need to check for root rot and repot them but would love to reuse the grow pot for another plant. Also what’s your thought in taking off or keeping on those little black plastic containers around the roots?? Thanks for any info u can share!!

    • @hpeteacher9445
      @hpeteacher9445 Год назад +4

      You can clean the nursery pots with Dawn detergent or diluted bleach and rinse well.
      Are you talking about the black plastic circles at the bottom of bigger nursery pots? If so, yes remove them. It helps with excessive water to be removed from the pot. You can also be referring to the plugs they put young seedlings in. Yes, remove them. They will suffocate the roots.

    • @darthtraya8305
      @darthtraya8305 Год назад +3

      Agree with the previous poster but will add, I also will use vinegar or rubbing alcohol to sterilize my pots. I spray them and let them sit about 15 minutes then rinse.

      @@hpeteacher9445 thanks 4 the response! Yes I was talking about the plugs around the roots. Some say keep them on and some say to remove them but I’m going to take them off.
