I was in college… There were so many artists going from unknown to superstars; Bruce, Madonna, Prince… good lord, everyone, and even the “One Hit Wonders” were set for life financially…. Bruce, in this video, reminds me of the nerdy, innocent boy who came back after summer vacation looking like a stud! You can tell he’s really having the time of his life, dancing, singing, and still unused to the fact this song was gonna change his life forever… the unbridled joy he exudes brings me back to watch this when “I” need to be reminded there were a few moments of joy in my life as well… too bad they were decades ago, yet happy my life encompasses all the raw, true talents, vocalists, and artistry of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s - Icons now, before auto tune and record company greed bombarded us when the internet came around. I guess each generation says the same; life was so much more simple back then, and the music much more pure… 🤷🏻♂️
If you didn't recognize the young lady Bruce pulled from the crowd, it was Courtney Cox, before her long stint on the TV Show "Friends". This was her first public performance, pretty good, as was Mr. Springsteen and The E Street band.
Killer chorus! Bruce was never my thing as a kid, but I always loved this song of his. Love a young Courtney Cox in the video, love the rare synths on a song of his - and I gotta say, his butt never looked better! And we're both Libras!

"Dancing in the Dark" was the lead single from Springsteen's 1984 album Born in the U.S.A. It dropped the summer before my senior year of high school and seven songs on it reached the top ten in the U.S. charts. That album more or less made Springsteen a superstar. I don't remember whether I saw the video for "Dancing in the Dark" first or heard the song on the radio first. But MTV ran the video a lot. Courtney Cox of Friends fame played the girl he dances with. Her freshness helped sell the song although it really sells itself. The synthesizers place the song squarely in the eighties, with the band rocking out to remind viewers of their roots in the seventies. MTV rarely ran Springsteen videos before "Dancing in the Dark". I only remember two of them. One for "Atlantic City" that visually drew on a black and white montage of the actual city without Springsteen in the video. The other footage of "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" from a concert in Phoenix, Arizona in 1978. Springsteen's RUclips channel is well stocked with vintage concert footage, including that concert in Phoenix, Arizona back in 1978 among many others over the decades since. It's easy to spend a lot of time watching those. 😃

This was the first single of his seven singles of his iconic album ''Born in the USA''. Like ''Thriller'' by Michael Jackson, ''Born in the USA'' produced seven top 10 singles in US. Theses two albums mainting this record for few years until Janet Jackson battled theses two albums, with the ''Rhythm Nation 1814'' produced seven top 5 singles. Also, this year, ''Taylor Swift'' battled all this record (preceded before by theses three albums) when she released her ''Midnight'' album who 10 songs (nine songs was non singles) of the album was in the top 10 in US charts the week of the released of this album, including the first single ''Anti-Hero''.
Empress do you know that this is what inspired Carltons dance on The Fresh Prince? Lol. Watch the dance moves of Bruce and Courtney then watch Carltons lol.
No offense but I never got the impression that this music video inspired the Carlton dance. The writers just remembered that white ppl in the 80s loved it. Eddie Murphy even clowns on it in his Delirious concert.
@@stefjonno1 I do. I guess the Borowitzes, who created Fresh Prince, never watched Delirious, which came out a yr before the DITD video. 😂 Interesting fact about Karyn Parsons (Hillary). Alexandre Rockwell, her husband, was previously married to Jennifer Beals. Rockwell must like biracial black women. 😉 And he stayed married to the one who’s always been comfortable with her blackness. 😆
Strangely Bruce Springsteen never got a #1 hit on the Billboard chart. His ‘Dancing In The Dark’ shot all the way up to #2 right behind Prince ‘When Doves Cry’ at #1. 1984 was flushed with endless great music, all the songs on the radio were smashing stiff competition. Unlike today’s filth 💩
You can't go wrong with Bruce! You nailed their dancing.
RIP Clarence Clemons. 🎷
