Me and my brother couldn't stop laughing in 2 player mode. We both would pick Buzz and we would just overhead pass enemies at each other. Lol plus the flex celebrations after pile driving someone and drop kicking guys from the crowd was hilarious. Oh man i miss this game.
Guys, if you want to see a great interview with Glen Fraticelli from Pit Fighter (Kato) search in youtube "JBC live with martial artist & healer Glen Fraticelli". In the same channel you can also see other videos with him.
I was at the local roller rink when I first saw it. I lost my freekin mind looking at this. Also I was very good at roller skating so that was cool too.
"Who's Bad"? "I'm Bad"! says Pit Fighter. I have the arcade version on Midway Arcade Treasures 2 & it's true, this game is awesome. Pit Fighter VS Kasumi Ninja. That defenatly would be the game of the year.
This game IS history making as its the VERY FIRST game to use digitized graphics and all MK fans out there owe a thanks to this game for breaking ground with this type of look.
This looks to me as the only playable version of this game on a home format. I loved Renegade on the ZX Spectrum and this game is largely cut from the same cloth. I played the arcade emu port on Xbox yesterday and this game is a hidden gem. Awesomely anachronistic fun.
Part of the brilliance of this game is that while it is technically a co-op brawler in multiplayer, you can just say screw it and wail on your friends. So much fun. The New Super Mario Brothers Wii actually has a very similar feel even though it's a platformer.
Absolutely loved this game in the 90s. Mainly cause of the digitized graphics. Like he said, it fell right in line with terrible Van Dame movies like Bloodsport. Back then we were just excited to see real looking characters in a videogame that digitized graphics and FMV seemed like the wave of the future. How wrong we were...
Pit- Fighter has his Place in the Beat èm up History. It marks the beginning of the long evolution in this genre that led us to Mortal Kombat and Def Jam today
Loved this game too, I used to spend lots of dominican pesos playing as Ty. EVEN TO THIS DAY... when I got something right I raise my fist and yell YEAH!!! with the Ty gesture! hahahaha those were the days...
3:08. "This whole Game reminds me of Lionheart" Funny accident, that "South Side Jim" Character (first Enemy) from Pit Fighter is the digitized Sprite from James Thompson (also known as "The Rope Master") and James Thompson is also in the Movie "Lionheart" he's the first Opponent from Van Damme (The Fight under the Bridge)
I have this game, and it's really fun, even my father wanted to play with it. CGR should get the Master System version, it's rare, and has some awesome music in my opinion, but the controlls are not the best.
Honestly it's the case of a game that's so bad it's good. It's pure cheesiness fun. I grew up playing the arcade version in 1991 then this genesis version at home one year later (as well as the Game Boy version). Basically, I'm one of the few Pit-Fighter fan, It's MMA minus the octagon and BJJ-ground game. It has hilarious digitized graphics, hit detection and collision. It's pure gold.
I liked Pit Fighter on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis to Americans). It looked great for it's time being that it was one of the first games to use digitised photage. I loved playing it with my brother as you'd get to fight each other to decide who;d fight the end boss. TY was easily the best character as his special was allot easier to time and pull off. It also looked the coolest along with his moves and character in general. Pit Fighter alone with Road Rash were among my favourite games for the Mega Drive The SNES port was genuinely terrible. To the point where most considered it broken. Not only did the graphics suck, the controls were broken. It was very hard, if not nigh on impossible to get your moves off and at the right time.
Though you can't compare it to Street Fighter II in the arcades, you must remember that it was the best we had on the Genesis for a while (only later did Fatal Fury, and finally Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition come out). I must say that when I first played it, I was impressed by the visuals. This was probably my first experience with digitized characters. My guess is that the makers of Mortal Kombat got the idea from Pit Fighter. It was well worth a rent in those olden days!
going back to the ol LIVE ACTION flick thing. im pretty sure that this game deserves to be in a movie. and theres so much potential to generate a game like this. idk like some power stone or Def jam fight for new york mechanics
This review was worth watching just for the Kasumi Ninja jokes. Anyways I don't remember if the arcade version was any good, but the home versions were ass.
My brother bought this game when i was 4 and he was 7 and we played this like the world was gonna end, its such a fun game. i don' care what anybody says i never thought it was bad.
I would LOVE to see a review over the Jaguar controller WHEN USED with Best Electronics' 2600/7800 adapter cable. Yes, it can be adapted to the 2600/7800, if you can get one of these adapters, please show ti off! I feel the Jag controller was one of the best ever, and I want to make YOU think this, too! Please try it with a 2600 or a 7800, see the difference!
Got it for Christmas in 1991. Kinda surprised my parents agreed to get it for me after they saw the box art, LOL. Looks like some sleazy cable TV movie.
if i remember correctly kasumi ninja was the game where u could shoot lasers out of your kilt right? Classy! i played this game allot with my friends as a kid and at the time the nimation and the motion capture was mind blowing,, (not being one who went to the arcade allot untill street fighter 2's release)
Okay, that settles it! Mark now I know that you are around the same age as I! This game became an attraction at the arcades only because it was so cheesy! The graphics of Mortal Kombat led to it's moderate success! It was one ofthe reasons why it was later ported to the various consoles. Come on Mark, you gotta love how the crowd would join in the beatdown if you or better yet your oponent ventured near the crowd! Get out your steeltoes boyos! It's time for stompin Tom Connors! Wha-? =P
Guardians of the hood!!! Lol amazing! I used to play this game a lot at the arcades. It has similar graphics to Pit Fighter (I think it used the same engine)
***** Atari Games more precisely, they insisted on this but in fact it was mostly the same team.As for Pit-Fighter, i have the Mega Drive version which is good (Unlike the SNES horror lol), the Lynx one seems to have potential, still have to try it...
Night Driver Why is the SNES one so bad? The GameBoy version is identical... seems like Tengen did better on Genesis back in the day... just look at Paperboy II as well.
***** Tengen, which is Atari Games console division, made some awesome releases on Mega Drive / Genesis. Gauntlet (Called Gauntlet IV in the US) is fantastic
Night Driver Yeah, I know about Tengen... I was happy to know that Atari basically did RBI Baseball, which is finally back! RBI Baseball was the first video game I ever owned, back in 1989. Pit Fighter for SNES is THQ... Paperboy II is mindscape... what happened there?
***** I still have to dig the R.B.I. serie but I’m already fan of their Arcade style. For me it was with Gauntlet & Hard Drivin’ that I started to love Atari Games, in the end of 80s too. & later I was quite fascinated with Pit-Fighter! Atari Games developed some awesome stuff. Oh &, not exactly sure about why SNES Pit-Fighter Race Drivin’ &, to a lesser extent, Paperboy II sux but since Atari Games & / or Tengen had some “complications” with Nintendo then maybe they deliberately crapped some releases on their systems.
The arcade version of this was good I thought back in the day. I remember it was proper hard though, I guess the arcade I used to play it in had the difficulty settings on the cab ramped up so you would pump in the 20p coins lol. Street Fighter 2 Cab was right next to this one, that got played a lot more though and was all round far superior and still very playable today.
I use to work at a wal-mart several years ago, and me and one of my coworkers would stand on a pallet, and lift ourselves up with a forklift just so we would act like we won Pit Fighter.
I still want the original cartride, I played so much with my cousins this game, we love this!!
Watching in 2022. Love it.
I still remember seeing this game for the first time back in the early 1990s. It looked incredible back then.
No it didn't.
I was at the local roller rink when I first saw it. I lost my freekin mind looking at this. Also I was very good at roller skating so that was cool too.
It was amazing back then
@tartuffethesprywonderdog5883 you weren't even born yet
I used to like this game as a kid at the arcade. The graphics were impressive for the time, and three player was crazy.
I just found this game in the attic recently and I got to say, I like it.
I Own this on "Midway Arcade Treasures 2" for PS2
I like playing that on the ps2 when I'm really drunk
The only thing missing from this game is Jean Claud Van Damme.
The only thing missing in pit-fighter is a game
Shouting, "I got Pit Fighter!!" didn't kick start the party at my house. Everyone laughed their asses off at me and made me put in Mortal Kombat X.
Your friends suck
Man I played this game in the arcade. Giood old days😀😀😀
I like this game.Brings back memories.
Classic game.
My favourite game!
I just got this game in a packaged deal with 2 Sega Master System games
"Who's Bad"?
"I'm Bad"! says Pit Fighter.
I have the arcade version on Midway Arcade Treasures 2 & it's true, this game is awesome.
Pit Fighter VS Kasumi Ninja. That defenatly would be the game of the year.
This is one of my favourite mega drive games of all time I spent some much time playing this with my brother
I had alot of fun with it as a kid.
When you are a kid and havent seen any better, the imagination makes up for everything else lacking ;)
This was actually a pretty decent port for its time. The only thing noticeably missing is the scaling effect used in the arcade version.
The genesis version is easily my fave version of this game after the Arcade's one. Extremely playable, great graphics and fun.
This game IS history making as its the VERY FIRST game to use digitized graphics and all MK fans out there owe a thanks to this game for breaking ground with this type of look.
+MrRobbyRetro
For sure! *"YEAH!"*
This looks to me as the only playable version of this game on a home format. I loved Renegade on the ZX Spectrum and this game is largely cut from the same cloth. I played the arcade emu port on Xbox yesterday and this game is a hidden gem. Awesomely anachronistic fun.

I used to play this in the arcade, I thought it was cool.
+jesseh22
It was the coolest!
I like the arcade game and Genesis port. They're pretty playable and for the time, innovative. You want bad, see the SNES port.
Pit-Fighter MOVIE!
Think about it. It would be oh so awesome.
In my time there was also a Pit Fighter arcade machine, but a lot of people really played it
Pit- Fighter has his Place in the Beat èm up History. It marks the beginning of the long evolution in this genre that led us to Mortal Kombat and Def Jam today
We used to spend hours killing this game back in the day!!! I miss Pitfighter!
I've got Pit Fighter! *waits for the party to get started* :D
Loved this game too, I used to spend lots of dominican pesos playing as Ty. EVEN TO THIS DAY... when I got something right I raise my fist and yell YEAH!!! with the Ty gesture! hahahaha those were the days...
+kashpc
Best comment ever! *"YEAH!"*
same here you made my night. its funny how we feel the same way about a lot of genesis games.
Loved this game as a young lad. Still play it today (Arcade version) on my home MAME cabinet (I built myself)
I had this on the Atari Lynx, and I -loved- it.
3:08. "This whole Game reminds me of Lionheart"

Best part about this game: when you get beat, the cpu just keeps stomping you. Add insult to injury, will ya...
I have this game, and it's really fun, even my father wanted to play with it.
CGR should get the Master System version, it's rare, and has some awesome music in my opinion, but the controlls are not the best.
Oh man, my babysitter and I used to play this game all the time. Good times.
This does indeed have a strange charm to it. To be honest when I played this game the first time, it reminds me of a Reb Brown movie.
Honestly it's the case of a game that's so bad it's good.
It's pure cheesiness fun.
I grew up playing the arcade version in 1991 then this genesis version at home one year later (as well as the Game Boy version).

oh man i remember this game. Used to play the hell out of it at the arcades LOL
this game was so much fun. I had it on the Sega Genesis.
everyone go out into the street and shout PIT FIGHTER!
I liked Pit Fighter on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis to Americans). It looked great for it's time being that it was one of the first games to use digitised photage. I always loved this game because it felt for me like a video game of jvcd lionheart movie
Back in the day these graphics were like mind-porn.
+The Daily Grenade
They definitely were "mind-blowing!" :D
i was one of the poor jaguar owner who had that game.
+daabbot
It looked so awesome for it's time that it was a real shock to me when I found out it was pure crap.
i love this game
All you have to do is shout "I've got Pit-Fighter...And the part gets started." lol
I loved Pit Fighter. I loved the Arcade game, and bought the Genesis cart.
this is the best version of pit fighter
Though you can't compare it to Street Fighter II in the arcades, you must remember that it was the best we had on the Genesis for a while (only later did Fatal Fury, and finally Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition come out). Awesome review - I want this game ^^
haha, i remember playing this at the arcade when i was a wee lad. you're absolutely right, mark. so bad that it's amazing.
nice
I use to play this in the arcade in seoul korea
going back to the ol LIVE ACTION flick thing. im pretty sure that this game deserves to be in a movie. and theres so much potential to generate a game like this. idk like some power stone or Def jam fight for new york mechanics
This review was worth watching just for the Kasumi Ninja jokes. Anyways I don't remember if the arcade version was any good, but the home versions were ass.
When I saw this in the arcades, the little video clips look like workout videos instead of the introductions of the fighters.
wow I had this on my Amiga and loved it - then i discovered Mortal Kombat and never went back - nice review.
who cares whos first or 3rd or second just enjoy and watch this awesome video
My brother bought this game when i was 4 and he was 7 and we played this like the world was gonna end, its such a fun game. i don' care what anybody says i never thought it was bad.
How do you remake Crap? :-D
Lol I paid 80 bucks for it new when it came out
lmao at the end.
OMG! I remember this game back in the day! Holy crap hahaha, this game was awesome when it came out!
oh and the background was cool, people cheering because of an illegal fight, how much cooler can it get when it comes to beating someone up
Ooh, about time a Sega Megadrive review....
what is this "friends" you speak of and how does it help improve my gaming experience?
it's a DLC, bro
I would LOVE to see a review over the Jaguar controller WHEN USED with Best Electronics' 2600/7800 adapter cable.
Yes, it can be adapted to the 2600/7800, if you can get one of these adapters, please show ti off! I feel the Jag controller was one of the best ever, and I want to make YOU think this, too!
Please try it with a 2600 or a 7800, see the difference!
I checked out the Kasumi Ninjas review, and you looked totally different than i thought you would look
Classic! I had it for Sega Genesis.
Got it for Christmas in 1991. Kinda surprised my parents agreed to get it for me after they saw the box art, LOL. Looks like some sleazy cable TV movie.

Pit Fighter is probably my favorite bad game of all time. I'd definitely buy Pit Fighter vs. Kasumi Ninja.
I must have rented this game at least 6 times then would go to Pistol Petes Pizza and spend all my quarters on it!
The three notes of the title screen sound like Hokuto No Ken's opening theme "YOU WA SHOCK!"
I use to work at a wal-mart several years ago, and me and one of my coworkers would stand on a pallet, and lift ourselves up with a forklift just so we would act like we won Pit Fighter.
hahaha that was some random stuff I loved it hahaha
All you have to do is shout "I've got Pit Fighter... and the party gets started" LOL!!!!! you are too damn funny bro :D
I'm so happy that I'm not the only one!
Kessel run...you sir, are a GOD!
this game was fun to play i wish psn would do a hd update i would buy that stuff
i always want to watch van damme movies after playing these old fighting games
O lord...I got a copy of Kasumi Ninja in the basement from a garage sale that sold boxes of games. XD
that dude on the cartridge art is totally owning the other guy
LOL, I actually liked this game. The SNES version had better graphics of course but the Genesis version played better. Better is relative of course.
so the genesis version is good?.
A guilty pleasure of mine. It's still Totally Studly!
I played this on the SNES and the arcades. I also thought it was kinda cool.
this game was too real ...love it , i might go buy it again .. south side
I remember when Mortal Kombat came out I begged my parents to buy it for my birthday, they ended up giving me this piece of crap, lmao.
“YEAH!!!”
hey i miss this game so much
man am i the only one on the entire planet that liked Kazumi Ninja back then??
Oh man, totally agree with this review.. Even when the game was new, it was awful in that awesome sort of way. It's like the MST3K of gaming.
one game i'd love for you to review would be Killer Instinct for the N64. Another fighting game that probably hasn't aged too well.
