I still remembered the day, I was 10 years old and my uncle who is a Vaishnav came to my home wearing a tilak. I asked him why he wears the tilak and he replied "Because Krishna likes it". I was soo happy to know that and I instantly put tilaka with my white sketch pen 😂. My Uncle was soo impressed with this that he gave me A packet of Gopi chandan. From my childhood I'm a devotee of Lord Krishna

The place wear put our tilak or chandan paste is the place where our third eye is situated, the third eye(agya chakra) is associated with decision making and intuition it gets rejuvenated while sleeping in the dark, and by putting tilak or chandan paste we keep the area cool and third eye area gets comparitively lesser light.
Those into meditation also apply tilak so that it becomes easy for them to focus on their third eye 😇.
