- Another nice engine from my friend John. It took considerable effort to get it running, but I managed. APC 5x3, OS A3 plug, Omega 25% with added castor.

I am 72 years old and when I was a kid, I cut my teeth on Cox's and OK Cubs. I remember cold days in Kansas when we were trying to fly and also trying to start an OK Cub. We would squirt fuel on the outside of the cylinder head and set it on fire with a lighter to warm the little beast up. I still have my OK Cub .074 & .099. The larger they got, the better they ran. This is just a suggestion, but get yourself an inexpensive microscope and you can use it for needle and spray bar examinations. Another thing to check is the "clocking" or orientation of the spray bar when it is installed in the venturi. I have seen them right side up and up side down. Thanks for your videos and the work you are doing. Good stuff!
This was the very first engine that got me highly interested in building and flying model airplanes, this was back in 1959, I was 8. It came in a "Sabre 44" and it was a C/L plane. First was a plastic plane, then I built flat balsa and profile planes. Then came build-up wings.
Now, I build and fly R/C stuff.
Biggest plane now has a 7 ft wing with a 24 in. cord. Flys with a WeedEater engine.
Started out small, and my hobby, just got bigger.
Very nice. Usually have to prime them in the exhaust port, that helps a bunch.
When I was a kid those engines were about all I used as they were cheap to buy , after you get used to them, and get the needle valve set they alwaysvstarted 4 me in about 3 or 4 flips using a 6/4 nylon prop, ( for the flywheel effect) at least they only ran counterclockwise ( with a Cox engine, you never new which direction they would be running , I found that a OKcub 074 had about the same power as an 049 baby bee I found the OK CUB A LOT EASIER TO START THAN THE COX!!!.
I got one of these in a parts lot, soaked it in methanol added a glow plug and it fired right up
Just picked one of these up NIP.
It came with a Kaysun red plastic 5x3 prop.
Will post a video in due course.
Great video! Doing some research after seeing a few pop up on ebay. Not sure about all of that flipping...I may just stick to my Cox engines.
You can buy a Cox .049 aluminum spinner for it and a hex head bolt, by doing so you can use a Sullivan Hornet 1/2A starter to fire it up with no fuss will make it a very user friendly engine for a project. The APC is too heavy and the airfoil is too thick for the engine of that class. I would suggest using a Cox 5X3 or 4.5x4 will make more rpm and thrust with good pitch speed for flying. The lower weight prop will help the engine NV hold a better / steady setting.
Thanks for that.
i have one fore parts tuns over with OK compression i will dig it out and show it soon
Furieux du compte-tours le Monsieur, un gâchis.... vous démontrez quoi? Gaspiller un patrimoine c'est tout.
Wobbling prop, prop hole too big or bent prop screw. Runs nice and steady though.
Like this cutey
Hey Dave, can you tell me if this is a short or long reach glow plug ? Also, if you know, does it use a "hot" or "medium" glow plug ? Thank you for your time.
I really don't recall. Sorry
It is a short reach plug ( DONT try a long reach plug as it WILL hit the piston and either bend or brake the rod )!!
Also you probably will have to use whatever you can find for heat, a hot plug is better if you can find one
When the engine starts around 2:20 into the video it appears that fuel is bubbling out of the left tube on top of the tank. Is the tank being pressurized when the engine is running? A finicky engine for some reason.
I have no idea. I did not disassemble the tank at all. I would like to see what it looks like inside however.
maybe the temp going up inside of the tank.
tank may not be sealing good and creating compression leak a the back plate, might replace the tank.
@@johnkelinske1449 This is not a reed-valve [049R] engine where it is important to have a sealed tank. This engine
is an 049A which has a separate tank attached to the engine. You could remove this tank and run without it.
It’s just the air pressure passing over the top of the pipe, producing a low pressure zone .just like a simple airbrush. So lifting fuel out of one pipe
How did your back feel after all that flipping?
Not good at all.
