the one move i totally endorse in sending tha oldest rookie in the history of the nfl to the curb, the punter who shoulda never been signed. Morstead still going strong for the Jets..how we miss him
@@demetriusjames9535 regardless i guess we can expect the Fire DA fans to come out in force early and often this season. I'm not expecrting a lot of wins but hopeful we do.
not a fan at all of WR Wilson who I feel is just another FA bust. Hoping St. Brown and or Nakua made the team. Not liking our RB room other than AK ..we are weak in that area as far as raw talent. Kibodi is someone I hope gets resigned. I feel like the offense has too many questions like RB, WR, OL depth and not really sold on TE Johnson who is another one who gets the injury bug too often. The defense last year had moments of letting us down so I'm expecting another 7 or 8 season for us. Thanks guys for the updates and always enjoy listening to y'all talk about my fav team
They have the same exact team for last year but more pieces on defense and some younger unproven talent to add on to the offense… I don’t see us finishing under 8-9 but I really think we go 10-7
This isn't a defense, there have been some tough drafts (2018 in particular), but folks all too often ignore how low the hit rate actually is outside the top 15 or so picks, depending on the draft. The idea of a "premium pick" drops off a cliff fast. Howie Roseman took Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson for christsakes and yet we talk about him as this master class GM. You're going to miss on picks. It's inevitable. The Saints have actually been generally solid on Day 2. The bigger issue imo is not taking enough throws at the board because of all the trades, and they've done a better job of protecting future assets the past two seasons. That will help.
@WWLsports Sure they haven’t been as bad at drafting as say New England, but they haven’t been great since 2017 either. Who are the hits? Olave, McCoy, maybe Adebo? Pretty frustrating. Look at all the draft capital they have poured into the DL in recent drafts, nothing but busts. Foskey has more preseason snaps than any other player, has he even registered a stat yet? The whole fanbase was screaming for Tajae Spears, local kid who wanted to play for NO… could have had him but the org went with Miller. Look at how that’s worked out. A rd3 RB and likely bust. It’s all very frustrating from a fan perspective.
I mean, let's go through the top three rounds and say hit/neutral/miss 2024 - RD1 (14): Taliese Fuaga TBD (too soon ... but early returns are good) - RD2 (41): Kool-Aid McKinstry TBD (too soon ... but there's a lot to like) - RD3: none 2023 - RD1 (29): Bryan Bresee - hit (still too soon, but considering where the pick was it's hard to be mad about it) - RD2 (40): Isiah Foskey - miss (still too soon, but I'll call this a miss since I'm already grading Bresee) - RD3 (71): Kendre Miller - TBD (again, it's too soon and this is third round. It's tough because you're drafting guys on what they'll do on the field, and when he's been there he's played well.) 2022 - RD1 (11): Chris Olave - hit (I don't know how anyone could be mad about this one) - RD1 (19): Trevor Penning - miss (I'm hopeful that Trevor figures his shit out and is playable, but even if he is this was still a bad pick) - RD2 (49): Alontae Taylor - neutral (I actually think this was a hit but I need to see him prove it this year first. Still not a bad pick) - RD3: none 2021 - RD1 (28): Payton Turner - miss (I'm OK with calling this a miss, even though it's really health that's been the issue and it's tough to pin that on the scouting. Again, I think people overestimate the hit rate on late first-rounders in general) - RD2 (60): Pete Werner - hit (folks might disagree and say this is neutral ... but landing an immediate starter at No. 60 overall is a win to me and I think he'll keep getting better) - RD3 (76): Paulson Adebo - hit (I'm not sure how anyone could argue this one. Day 1 starter out of the third round is a win for any team) 2020 - RD1 (24): Cesar Ruiz - neutral (certainly not the best pick ever, but the goal in the back end of the first round has to be to find starters and that's what you got. Could've been better, but in no way a miss) - RD2: none - RD3 (74): Zack Baun - miss (I still maintain that this was more of a scheme issue than anything else. They drafted a 3-4 linebacker and thought he could convert. They were wrong. It's a miss) - RD3 (105): Adam Trautman - miss (this was a Sean Payton pick IMO and it was a bad one) 2019 - RD1: none - RD2 (48): Erik McCoy - hit (low-key this might be the best pick of the Loomis era when you consider the assets they were working with and the desperate need for a center at that point) - RD3: none 2018 - RD1 (14): Marcus Davenport - miss (high-key this is probably the worst pick of the Loomis era and I don't know if it's even a debate) - RD2: none - RD3 (91): Tre'Quan Smith - neutral (people will disagree here, but you got 67 games and a quality blocking WR out of the 91st pick. It could be a lot worse) 2017 - RD1 (11): Marshon Lattimore - hit (This was the should've been Mahomes pick, but still hard to hate on it) - RD1 (32): Ryan Ramczyk - hit (Gravy pick in the first round and you got a guy that was a rock RT for 7 years. Wish his career lasted longer, but can't fault the pick for that) - RD2 (42): Marcus Williams - hit (the fact that we can call this a hit despite the playoff game I don't want to talk about tells you how good a pick it actually was) - RD3 (67): Alvin Kamara - hit (I don't feel like I need to justify this - RD3 (76): Alex Anzalone - neutral (honestly could be called a hit, the Saints just didn't get the most out of him bc of players ahead of him - RD3 (103): Trey Hendrickson - hit (shouldn't have let him walk, but that's a different conversation) I'm going to stop there because no one from the 2016 draft is on the current roster (though it was still a good draft). So in all that's 23 picks going back to 2017. - Hits: 10 - Neutral: 4 - Misses: 6 - TBD: 3 2018 and 2021 are the two really rough years, and 2018 was bad enough that it sunk 2019 (even though there were a couple really good picks that year). Again, my argument is that you haven't made enough picks, so the misses feel a lot more significant. In 2017 ... one of the best draft classes in NFL history, you made six picks in the top three rounds (+3). In the seven drafts since you've made 17 (-4) and more than a third of them (35%) have been outside the top 60. I truly believe that asset management is the bigger problem. Again, look at Howie Roseman. He's had SO MANY DAMN DARTS to throw at the board, that he was able to survive one of the worst WR whiffs of all time (Jefferson went THE NEXT PICK after Reagor). I don't know why I went so deep on this, but the asset management has been driving me insane for a while now. There could certainly be changes in the scouting as well, but if you've got a 50% hit rate in the top three rounds (which I'd guess is about league average) excluding the three TBD players ... and you make, say, 7 more picks in that range, you'd likely have 3-4 more quality starters in their prime right now, and I think that'd make a big difference for this roster.
Jeff, I hear you about Miller. You say he has to get healthy. While this is true I'm sure he's trying and doesn't like it that he can't get healthy. Sometimes players just can't stay healthy due to no fault of his, hopefully this is not him.
There’s a level of that, but I think it’s pretty clear that the team feels it’s more about a lack of effort/commitment. One of the things no one sees is the amount of prehab, body maintenance these guys go through to avoid soft tissue injuries. Getting hurt the way he did in a basic individual drill is a sign he wasn’t ready. They wouldn’t be striking the tone they are if they felt otherwise.
@@WWLsports could be. The lack of practice time could also play a big part in staying in shape. It serms like since the latedt CBA we're seeing more injuries like this. Still players like Davenport as an example, some players just can't shake the injury bug.
Can I make a suggestion to Mike Hoss? Please stop with the "outside the hash, inside the numbers, in front of the Saints bench" calls. It gets old really fast. I just want to hear who gets the ball and how far the gain is and to what yard line.

He hasn’t signed anywhere else. They could still bring him back.
Yes! Hoping Samson Nacua and Kyle Hergel land on the practice squad 🙏

How many more premium draft selections is Loomis going to be allowed to waste on busts until his seat gets warm?
