There's an Audiophiliac/Steve Guttenberg imposter scamming my viewers, DON'T respond! I don't do giveaways or ask for money (except for my Patreon).
They are doing this to all the audio reviewer channels in the last month. I'll report it if I see it Steve.
It happened Steve finally went Bananas..
😂
Yes, a Canton review!!!!! Steve, you know I love my Cantons:) The best bang for the buck in the Canton line is their Vento towers. Top to bottom they are superb. Honestly, one of the best values in HiFi. Can you please do a Vento tower review??
I love the that “Dracula” soundtrack. I used it to explain leitmotif and program music to my students in a Music Appreciation class.
Steve "Accept no Substitutes" Guttenberg. I love what you bring to the often sensationalized world of hifi. I truly look forward to your videos. It's always a humorous moment that reminds and compels me to hit the "Like!"😂
Thanks!
First Canton review I've seen from my go to reviewers. I got a pair of 496.2 floor standing speakers and I'm surprised on how well they perform across a wide variety of genres. They are not the latest models or the most transparent speakers I've heard, but they keep pulling me into the music. At some points I can't stop listening for hours on end. Great review and love your work!
I come here for the shirts......I stay for the information.
Thanks Steve :)
Even though the gear you present might not always be relevant for me and my system, I love the record tips, the storys, the occational playlists and the best part, the Audiophiliac Wiever System of The Day :)
Canton has been on my short list for new floorstanding speakers. Everything has been positive, now I just gotta find out how/where to audition them. Great stuff Steve !
That shirt radiates “Happy” and makes me want to listen to Harry Belafonte “Day-o” 😂😂😂 Thanks Steve!!
Excellent review as always! Would love a review on the Reference 9 K.
i would also like that, i had the old Reference 9 DC so this new model is interesting.
I have two sets of Cantons and love them. A set of Reference bookshelves and the A45 towers. Lovely sounding speakers
Thanks!
The larger Vento's were on my short list when purchasing new floor-standers back in 2020. There's a lot of love for these on the forums, some people are crazy over them. I know there was some concern _many_ years back about quality control and customer service, but that seems to be a non-starter these days. Today they're an entirely different speaker as far as sound profile. The general consensus is to pay the extra for the ceramic tweeters - Canton tends to make similar models with/without these. Just as Boron is the way to go with Focals, so is Canton's proprietary ceramic tweeter. Sadly, they're not easy to track down. Now that word is out, even Accessories 4 Less runs out of inventory quickly - _especially_ the "refurbs" which just tend to be open box stock.
Steve, it'd be interesting if you explored your overall observations after seeing all those thousands of room/system images.
- Typical system characteristics people get right
- Characteristics people oftentimes get wrong
- Commonalities you encounter, ie., brands, types, configurations
- Trends or tendencies you appreciate most
- Or anything remarkable... I'm sure there's countless observations that those images elicit
𝙏𝙃𝘼𝙏 would likely make for some solid content!
I've been using a pair of Canton 620's (very similar to the ones you're reviewing) for the last year, driven by a Naim 60watt/channel amp. They are really clear, smooth, and NON-resonant. Their bass leaves something to be desired (a sub would be appropriate), but their mids and highs are exceptional. Very easy to listen to over long periods, and very accurate.
Get a pair of the large floor standing and add room treatment. The bass is brilliant on Canton. Amazing company.
@@BastianUllr Hehe, If I could, I would. I have to keep the system small here in Italy, but I know what you're saying. I auditioned these against a half dozen other speakers of similar size for several weeks. They're really smooth, with precise imaging, no annoying resonances and solidly built.
My first experience with Canton was the Movie 95 5.1 satellite system - marketed at Accessories4Less as " Bose Acoustimass" killer - and holy crap was it - for less than half the price.
I've heard nothing but praise for Canton, and strictly from a quality perspective, absolutely true.
Steve literally rocks!
Was nice to see you wearing a LOUD shitt today ..haven't noticed it lately...it was nice to see!
In the 90s Canton had a line of car audio that was just incredible.I wish i could get my hands on some.
Hi Steve,
Thank you for reviewing the Canton brand!...very few in Canada or the US on RUclips for Canton (therefore in English).
Can you pleeease review the new Canton Townus 90 floor standing speakers?
We have a Canton dealer here in Canada, but they don't have the Townus 90's in store to listen to. 😞
Living in Germany I currently own two Canton speakers, Vento 890.2 floor standers which I use in a bi-amping configuration with XTZ power amps and a miniDSP. I also have Vento 826.2 Standmounts which my wife now uses. In the past I also had Karat Reference 6 and Karat M80. Happy to see them being sold in the US again. Great value for the money with great finish and customer service is great as well.
Hey Andrea,
Since you live in Germany, what is the going reputation on the Canton Townus 90's? I'd like to add these to my home theatre setup, so I am curious to know if they're popular in Germany for their quality and sound...?
Any feedback is appreciated from someone familiar with these floor standing speakers.
@@perrysmiles60 haven't heard the Townus series speakers, but they have a good reputation reputation as well. Technical wise they should be quite similar to the Vento series. Build quality of both series is quite outstanding for the price.
Thank you for your input.@@andreasheiden7122
Hang on everyone, I'm putting the Turntable Time Machine in reverse. All the way back to circa 1994. I sold a pair of Dahlquist DQ8s and bought a pair of Canton's Karat 920s, a Canton AV 500 center, and some Canton surrounds (don't remember their model #). I added a Velodyne F1200(?) to punch up the bottoms. That was a kick ass 5.1 system for that era and my budget at the time. All that to say, the Karat 920s are still my mains today. But man, I wish I had the sense to hang on to those Dahlquists. They were so much better for music. The Karats with the Velodyne were like being at a Rave. The Dahlquists were like being at the symphony. That may be a bit of a stretch on the DQ8s, but back then it was a big jump in price to move up to the DQ10s.
Thanks for sharing Tony!
The old Canton sound signature was for lack of a better term - a bit on the searing side. Analytical, _unforgiving_ with some source material and a bit etchy. Whoever the lead designers are these days have a very different target. I wouldn't call them laid back by any measure, but they're far more musical and even swing. It's still a German speaker at the end of the day (for better _and_ worse), but paired with the right electronics I think they'd make some people delighted.
Steve, Check out their 9 k reference it is top-shelf .
It seems that for a fuller presentiation of the sound one will need the floorstanding model. It should propably be speedy enough to.

When I think of transparency and detail at that price without being too bright or shrill, I think of the Focal Aria 906 and KEF R3. How would you say the Cantons compare to those? I know they are both a bit more, as the 906 and R3 are both $2200 a pair in the US.
This video was BANANAS!!🍌🍌
Canton on my small music room: 1pair Fonissimo + 1 pair Twin 700 mini-speakers, coupled with 4 passive Canton subs with NAD electronics.
Zany Steve and his cool shirts!
I currently have a pair of KEF LS50s in my system that I really like. I have been starting to explore upgrading the speakers. Would the Canton Vento 20s be a good upgrade option to move up from the LS50s?
No, not really. More of a sideways move. The LS 50 is a phenomenal speaker you should upgrade your electronics, DAC, or turntable before upgrading speakers. Or, if you want more bass by the KEF KC 62 subwoofer.
I had the Kef' and Vento 830 and Vento 820's. The Kef was very close, I had noreal preference but I sold the Kef's. The Vento's can be bought at a serious
Discount at German online sellers if you ask for it.
see if you can get ahold of a pair of the new canton reference tower speakers for review.
I have the vento 830's (grandfather of the 20's). And I have the floor model as well. You compare the 20's to floor standing speakers?! Did you add a subwoofer to the 20's?
I still have my Karat 200s (3-way) from 1986! Still going strong--they say made in West Germany.
I’m so tired of sending you my audiophile system and it never comes up so not sure why the well is running dry.
Hello fom Denmark
Interesting ceramic dome
No Warranty info? Who services in the US? This speaker is pretty small for $1800. Thanks for reviewing Canton as I was curious. Maybe a Canton floorstander next time?
The plastic is preferable to conductive metal parts.
I used to be a Canton dealer in the 80s/90s.... great speakers....and yes...what you put in you'll get out... clearly. Still have a pair of Karat 930s somewhere.... impressive design and finish with this brand too... Quality. I honestly don't see how you can compare the Vento w the Klipsch? Would you compare a Ford V8 with a BMW straight six? .....
Hi Steve. Suggest you read an article in the Washington Post titled "How a Phoenix record store owner set the audiophile world on fire".
Not for me…but the white ones look beautiful! THANKS for the music!
Got a super budget system I might try and send in (still respectable-ish hi-fi gear). Little project of mine to put together something super financially accessible to show to entice new audiophiles into the field while still sounding pretty decent, certainly better than Bluetooth speakers.
Hey Steve why do my junk acusound AS-6120A
Sorry kill my emotiva b1+ by miles Kenwood KR-V6030 amp iPhone 12 mini playing RUclips music??????????
hmmm - - I have to wonder if the plastic plate Canton used for the binding posts has as much to do with sound than saving the added cost of a metal type plate which these days it should be a non magnetic type metal - that is, in that I've heard that a non magnetic type plate is better for sound - - hey, not that I'm suggesting I could hear something like that!
oh geez. are those dreaded sand cast resistors??
Did the banana shirt Steve
I'm miffed that you used the floor-stander Klipsch as a comparator to the Canton ! Why not other relatively holographics like LS50s or UB52s ??
Right, I should have used those, but I did compare the Buchardt S400IIs with the Vento 20.
The price is about the same. Makes the comparison not that weird.
@@musiclassica it's not that it's weird but it doesn't make sense. He should compare a floorstander to a floor Stander and a bookshelf to a bookshelf. Much more logical because of size of cabinet and amount of drivers.
@@ryanschipp8513 Ok, that too. The LS-50 Meta would have been an option. Something tells me the Canton would have beaten it, though.
@@musiclassica But, would it beat the R3 or Focal Aria 906? I doubt it
Always thought you lived in San Francisco. Have no idea why.
If you try out german loudspeakers, please try out the Nubert nuVero 60 or bigger. I think they will be your new reference speakers 😊
Looks interesting, but apparently not available in the US.
I've had some experience in the past with speakers that have foam surrounds degrading over time. Any knowledge if they have had that problem, Steve? Thanks for another great video!
No, I haven’t seen speakers with foam surrounds a very long time.
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac Thanks!
Hi Steve, you don't have the RUclips super thanks featured turned on. Recommend that you do. check it out...cheers simon
Why you use such low powered amps for these speakers and compare to the Klipsch. Makes no sense to me…
Steve, you should hear some bad classical orchestral recordings. They can sound major league UGLY on revealing equipment. Many of the recordings made in the late-analog and early digital era suffer from this kind of sound (with too many competing microphone feeds wreaking havoc on the resultant sonic image). When I was building my big system, I had to factor in an ability to tame some of these sonically inferior recordings since some of the performances featured the leading artists of the period, and happened to be quite good. And this is even more the case with historical repertoire (mono, 78s, etc.). So 'classical' (at least in orchestral and opera) is not necessarily a repertoire where a bright, transparent speaker is likely bring complete satisfaction.
Hey Steve,
I miss Herb. How's he doing?
He's fine, will see him today!

Damn, the US folks are having crazy prices. In EU is 600 dollars/pair. Taxes, transport etc. but still...
I don't think you're correct, in Euros VENTO 20 is 599 EACH.
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac Let me check, Sir.
Having to use a US distributor means a whole new layer of overhead. Marketing, dealer relations, shipping, warranty repair, etc, etc, etc. It can make the prices increase by 40% easily. I once coveted a pair of British speakers which cost less than $2000 without VAT in England, but were selling here for $3600.
@@charlesgrubbs2101 Yes. It goes both ways, unfortunately.
@@charlesgrubbs2101 Sometimes it's just greed, 'cause they think they can get away with charging a lot more here. Focal, Wharfedale, and KEF all distribute their own speakers in the US, and the Focals and Wharfedales (and all IAG products, including Audiolab, Quad, and Mission) are a lot more in the US than Europe, with the Focals costing twice as much here as in Europe, but the prices of KEFs and Elacs, both also European brands, are only slightly higher priced in the US. B&W is another that does their own distribution in the US, but jack up the prices a lot here too. Canton and Monitor Audio have independent distributors that are charging more here than the cost in Europe.
Love pj harvey
Hi Steve, would you please consider doing a show regarding listening to radio. DAB , on line with an external DAC, FM, streamer etc. the prose and cons of what now has a lot off choices. (And is a little confusing).
All the best Giles, Norwich UK
Cheap parts in the crossover network, not good quality for sound quality
You been backing up off headphone reviews lately. I don’t give a whip about speakers and systems. More headphones please.
Yes, I have backed off from headphone reviews. The reason is my audience isn’t interested, or so it seems. Obviously you are, but there’s not enough of you, sorry.
Headphones? Really? Go buy a pair of HD-600s and leave it at that.
@@cjay2 That is really good advice
