    Hi Joe-Anne,
THANK you for showing me around mY ‘own’ city. It was … it has been EYE opening 😎
It makes me wanna go visit the city center more often.
For me it’s only a 3 minute crossing using one of the small FREE ferries to get to Station … and I’m there. I forgot to tell you: a totally exhausting 7 minute walk from my apartment to r e a c h the ferry. Yes, I’m t h a t luckY…
It’s also where the EYE Filmmuseum is, the ultra modern ‘pointy’ low white building across the water ‘t IJ right opposite Centraal Station (the far side entrance, not where you exited).
Like most (or at least a lot) of Amsterdammers (inhabitant of … :) ‘tracht ik het centrum te mijden’ > I try to avoid the city center because of it being overcrowded with tourist most of the time, especially during spring and summer season. I believe you chose two good days, you can never know in advance: ‘je kunt er je vinger niet op leggen’ literally > you can’t put your finger on it. At least the city didn’t seem to be overcrowded during your visit which is a g👀d thing if you like to have a more ‘realistic’ experience.
Funny thing: the Photo Booth at the Hoxton, we used to have those until the I believe late nineties… they were all over the place throughout The Netherlands (AND Europe, maybe even the US): every (city, not in the smaller) train station used to have at least one or two of those. Back then they were a lot cheaper to use but even then not really cheap especially when the result was gonna be not usable:
you had to be careful to stay put when the flashing started: these photos were admissible for use on legal documents like a drivers license or even passports… as long as you’d keep a straight face 😐. Now they’re all for fun, but even back then especially girl-friends liked to make funny shots with at least 2 in the booth! I guess you can imagine the ‘fun and laughter’!
Funny to see it being a ‘vintage experience’ now and I suppose the steep €8 ‘fee’ can be explained by the analog film developing proces being quite costly in the first place since everything is digital now especially due to Kodak leaving the market/going bust: 50/50 > €4 developing film, €4 ‘tourist fee’, something like that 😎. It’s a guess, I might be totally wrong).
Anyhow, I believe you made a good choice visiting Amsterdam by yourself (I believe it’s safe enough for a girl your age by herself, some people might disagree) there’s so much to see, being in/with a group of people makes you miss at least half of it.
I especially loved the hotel room (Andaz Prinsengracht?) with the Dali-like ‘half’ fish wallpaper and did you notice the ‘AMSTERDAM XXX’ on the grey-washed/silver painted table? The crosses could be mistaken for ‘kisses’, in fact these are the so called ‘Andreaskruisen’ forming (part of the) the coat of Arms (seal) of Amsterdam (origin unknown) but portrayed vertically like so:

You might have come aCROSS them/noticed’em throughout the city:
in fact they’re on top of the A’DAM Toren next to the EYE museum - or vice versa, duh - the former CEO Head Quarters of then Royal Dutch Shell (yes, the - boohoo! - oil company).
With the risk of providing far too much detailed and ‘boring’ information for you and your peers I’ll leave in with this ‘cause frankly, I could go on for hours but I guess, far more interesting for you: there are indeed LOTS of VINTAGE clothes stores in Amsterdam!
    AND stroopwafels… poffertjes, pannenkoeken… tons of TikTok-cues.
Hint: try to avoid those > these ‘toko’s’ often are way too expensive and there’s lots of other and often better options within a ‘block’ or two. Like you seem to have found your own gems (
Anyhow, hope to see you again in our beautiful citY!
    Yvo
PS You might give ‘Concerto’ (Utrechtsestraat 54- 60) a try. It’s my go to music shop (CD, Vinyl): ‘een begrip’ > very well know by locals, in Amsterdam.
By the way, thanks for introducing me to Clairo 🎶
