Aussie here.. walked in a shop and heard this playing, asked the owner who the singer was and he suggested to get this version of “like a version” CD. I went & brought it because of this song!! years later the Cd is lost but I still search this song ❤ I’m 53 years old
This takes me back to the summer of 2011. Plan B, what a legend.
I had this like a version on CD, I still reckon it’s one of the best even after, what, 10,11 years ?
What’s the name of the CD please? I brought it years ago and lost it. There was a couple of song on it I fell in love with… would love to go back there haha
I was backpacking Australian when this was on the radio, doing a shitty old job in 100000 degrees heat this banger comes on out of no were it was a good memory, shame it’s not more popular but cover copyright and All that
Plan b represents uk rap very well, love his who needs actions when you got words album. Also love his Strickland banks soul album, he truly is talented. He is great live too which I feel grateful to have experienced that 🙂
2:05 these are his bars guys. He wrote bars in English rap style that relate to him.
Hence the phone. He needed to keep it all straight. This song is not exactly the same as the original.
You guys in the comments looking real silly...
I'm assuming you aren't Ye fans at all.
2011 recording. That... Is a shame. Makes sense. Explains a lot. Got my hopes up
but he was using his phone since 0:45, wtf are you talking about?
Who effin cares!! This walks all over the original
Whoa! This! is why I love “Like a Version!”
Plan B crushed it! What a fun new way to represent the song. I’m head-boppin’! This is so great! I love this version
I don’t know why this has got so much hate in the comments. I think he did a good job, is it really a big deal he’s reading the lyrics? It’s not his song and this is his first and only time performing it
"is it really a big deal he’s reading the lyrics? It’s not his song and this is his first and only time performing it"
It looks extremely unprofessional but you're right; why learn the lyrics by heart if you're not going to every play it again.
Never playing it again is also a good idea, it's a crap song.
@@vinny142 2:05 he wrote this part.
After that part was done, he didn't really need the phone.
There is some irony in how the comments complaining at the reading make no mention of this.

you will be surprised, but it's possible to forget even your own lyrics. dont shame people with bad memory
@@vinny142 runaway a bad song?💀no taste
Missed the talk from the start where he calls people wankers if they don't like Kanye. 👌
Yep, all time classic. On people who don't like Kanye.
"Those people are the same people who don't like my music... They are wankers and they have no taste"
Drinking a nice whiskey, little toast 🥃 you’ve done it justice Ben. Gonna have another listen now. Thanks
I love this song
What a mad voice and that is neither an insult or a compliment. I love who needs actions plan b
I always liked this song and the entire album
How do you commenters know he wasn't reading the latest government pandemic advice while recording?
Because this is 10 years old
@@headswillroll89 bruh
Yes plan b smashed it
Let’s have a toast! 🥂
The interview at the start of this was golden im not sure why you left it out
Where the full original interview?.. was sooooo funny!
Hello...
Hey, Luca Van Dresh! You are on point!
It's like a version...that's it.
I for one would love to have close friends over. Have this crew also over and play what ever they want.
Simple wins all the time.
My name is West from South Africa. I've been with Kanye from the Polo Shirts and Backpacks! (I'm not necessarily sure of the new Kanye).
I love listening to My favourite songs with a new voice and a creative touch, and I found love in this take... May they do more renditions of my favourite artist. There's a particular nuance that carries with a well-known song when it's sung by a different artist of a certain genre and the cadence just takes it home. Creativity doesn't always have to be holistically original, it is allowed to carry the essence of the original with it.
Great f'n Effort! I was engulfed entirely! Your purpose was achieved in My experience! Thank You and Please give Me more. ❤
Why is this not on the spotify play list @triplej ?
Plan b is an English grime artist, so to say he sang most of this and easily hit them high notes, yall need to have your ears checked if you think it's anything but fucking class
He's not a grime artist
Legend.
That was sick
lotta haters in the comments lol wtf, this was good
I feel like this could've been better if they used actual drums.
yea that mic gonna be stanky! lmao
Beatbox has it's uses, this was not one of them.
@@vinny142 ur so right
Awesome
Pensé que era Plan B los que cantan Candy y Fanatica Sensual

This song is proper prefect!!

It is Runaway, original version by Kanye west
Let's have some toast lol

This is so good
Plan B has some incredible music. Good cover too.

This is flame
What happened to the interview intro? Best bit! Toast

Why can't we have the clip of when he originally went on? Sux

I think be great for Ben to go do a song with mike shinoda from linkin park
This video is a perfect of example of somebody strainingand employing awful vocal technique.
?
You dizzy blud ?
This comment is the perfect of example of somebody not keeping they damn mouth shut
Legged
Why memorize this? You've never seen live bands?.lol.. This is great...just imagine you request a song, Plan B plays it for you...are you not entertained....
Only 83k FFS this was legit back in the 80s 🤦♂️
NO WAY IT'S PLAN B ON TRIPLE J
dreams really do come true
This is one of the best like a versions ever period. Actually made it his own, not just a karaoke version. So good
wrong
One of the best like a versions of all-time
Theres some covers on this channel which are absolute gems in the mud. Tash sultana doing electric feel for example...but this... this isnt one of them.
Edit - just watched the the video aswell... is he. Is he reading lyrics?
Should you rather him not read the lyrics and then potentially fuck up?
@@thewinteragendadraganclove2323 I'd rather him not cover it. But here we are
I was under the impression that triple j covers were by bands and singers that loved the songs they were covering. You have literally one job to do and that’s to memorize a song that you love. Almost insulting. And holding up a phone to read lyrics is pretty lame.
@@kieran_w98 he wrote the verse at 2:05. This song is not exactly the same as the actual song.
@@kieran_w98 and I'd rather you hadn't been spawned into this world, but here we are.
I don’t know if my eyes improved in the last 2 years but I swear this use to be worse picture quality.
People say it's a mess but that's not down to him. The vocals are better than 99% of the charts for the last 10 years. Especially his 2018 album.
Not bad
My god this was godawful
Plan B being a hack as always. This is pretty poor tbh.
Hahahaha ok.
Love it. I remember when he did it, back in 2011. Better than the original!
belkstar8585 no
Nothing is better then the original bro
You tripping
You’re insane
All beatboxing sounds like a 12 year old playing around
hes doing to kanye west what kanye west did to Queen
so much better than the original, Plan B such a beast
Real shite
Not even on beat. Piano hits on 2 & 4 not 1 & 3 like in this video, completely failing to capture the rhythm ang groove of the original. Very messy
Verse wasn't great, and if you're gonna cover on Triple J... memorize
Did you memorise your like a version cover ? Music is to listen to not watch , listen again without watching the clip , it’s a good cover
Mate, this fucking shreds
Dislike cause he had to read the lyrics
Yeah, I'd rather he winged it and potentially fucked up...
/s
@nicolas guzman go back and read your comment, then reflect on who you are as a person.
Nothing against these guys. But Silverstein did this cover better btw
no
the only good part of this was the harmonies
Beatboxer ruined it tbf
This is the most amateur cover of a song I have ever heard. Where do I even start. The beat boxing is just...bad. Why would you not use drums for a song with such a powerful and incredible beat. At least use a beat pad for god sakes. The singer reading the lyrics is laughable. choosing an acoustic guitar is just very underwhelming and doesn’t cut through the song. Alt J should have just not posted this, an outlier to their usually high quality performances.
Carried by the back up singers
Moron
@@conaltimas984 Exactly! I haven't a clue why everyone is shitting this? He has a beautifully soulful voice and wrote a whole new verse! Love it.
not the vibe
This is a train wreck... Reading off his phone wtf how was this even allowed. Disrespectful.
Do you know the original song?
Do you like the original song?
Because this version is not identical in structure. And at 2:05 he is rapping lyrics he wrote for this probably in place of the Pusha T verse. And he did it very "English" too.
Oh I'm sorry was this a freestyle battle? Quite a few musicians doing covers keep the lyrics to make sure they don't mess up...on a song that's not theirs.
Disappointed.
2/10
Trash
If he could sing without watching lyric. That would be good....
Gotta love how he's putting his finger in his ear to make sure he's hitting the right note as he drones on and on and on at that exact same note.
Ok, I've never liked this kind of rap and I never will, it's just a string of curses without melody trying to convince the audience that the artist (who cannot even song properly) is a tough cookie who's coing to kill you if you dis him. Word, bro. Or something else that nobody understands anyway.
If you think he's droning the same note throughout you definitely have both fingers in your ears. I love all genres from classical to celtic trad; yes some rap is about gratuitous violence without the context of doing it for survival rather tha status. As you should well know, but rap was originally about self expression and storytelling. The best rappers are excellent at conveying narrative and many, like Plan B, actively collaborate with 'real' poets such as John Cooper Clarke. Just because you cannot comprehend this doesn't mean the rest of us can't. This song actually has a lot of clear stylistic influence from soul and far from usual 'gangster rap' fare. It is about a conflicted man confronting his unhealthy, self-sabotaging behaviour patterns and how they negatively affects his relationships. He owes up to his weakness for other women, whilst also projecting his insecurities onto/looking for flaws in his partner, whom he assumes must be with him for his wealth as his character is clearly so weak. He tells her that his infidelity is the price she pays for dating a successful artist who belongs to a world of materialism, consumption and groupies throwing themselves at him, but in the same breath admits that money cannot buy class and he is tasteless. He states he is unsure how to handle intimacy and hates how much he is hurting her, telling her that her best option is to leave; even though this will also crush him, he is trying to be unselfish for once in his life. I for one appreciate the painful honesty and vulnerability displayed in this song even if I only listen to about 5 songs out of his entire catalogue.
Disappointing.
