Well done fellas; the future of Australia is in good hands when two young blokes pay homage to our ancestors and live our history. Very well made and entertaining as well. Subscribed and liked.
loved your video.mate. awesome pair of hombres out bush doing the yesteryear adventure. sad to watch it end! the gold member reference made me laugh out loud!!
Mate this is bloody awesome. I'm heading out for a traditional swagman camp with my son tommorow and I loved watching your vid. And I love the detail down to the little things like the harp haha
I know that river crossing with the tree hanging across well. You guys chose a great spot! Agreed this place gets freezing at night. Would be good to see another vid sometime.
Love your video guys. I’m 63 and I love bush craft and camping, but wrapping yourself up like that in a swag might be alright for you youngens but when you got a get up 3 times through the night for a piss you wan’t something you can escape from Buick smart and in a hurry.
Great video fellas. Would be good to see short vid on your swagman kit, history and where you got some items, bottle , knife. Should try a canvas water bag, is acquired taste (used one in shearing sheds for a few years).
Sharpen it up and keep using it. Hit a piece of steel while working on a Caribou in the back of my truck with my Buck Vangard. The chips gotten smaller over time (20 years) and it done about a dozen Caribou and a couple Moose since. Good Day from Alaska!
Enjoyed that fellas. I've been thinking about doing the same thing for quite a while. Good thing getting back in touch with our descendants, and the way they did things early on out in the bush.
Jolly good. When you work blade steel the final step before commissioning the the blade is to reset the temper in the blade. This is done by controlled heating while observing the color of the steel and then quenching. You may have broken the temper by too much grinding. Nice bit of work but with no temper it died an early death.
We used to use pineapple juice tins, large tin quart pot small print pot .I never saw any real Bushmen sling a Billy only time was for tourists ,we just taped the side ,also we would bring water to boil drop tea in then take of fire doesnt stew the tea cheers
I loved the adventure in the Victorian bush. I would have liked more videos and I hope you revisit the swagman theme again soon. Cheers from another Victorian mate.🤠👍👍
Not sure what steel you used for the knife.... But generally bone is known to be super hard on knife blades... Some of the knife channels use bone chops in destruction tests..... So your chip or roll the knife took isn't a huge surprise Great vid boys
I used just standard 1080 high carbon tool steel. I was going at the bone pretty hard for like 8-10 strikes with a baton so in hindsight not surprised it chipped the blade, didn’t realise how strong bone was hahaha
Nice camping trip, I must say your country is absolutely beautiful. Love the throwback period gear, I'm currently working on putting together an old bushman kit myself. Anyways, cheers form the US.
A lot of swaggies packs were just a sack, with a stone in each bottom corner, a piece of rope tied around each corner stone, and looped around the top. It works a treat.
I was wondering, how did you figure out the spot/route to camp at? I'm always struggling to find ways to find spots to "wild" or even just dispersed camp. How did you go about it?
If ur an Aussie look for state forests. Similar to national parks but less managed; ie worse roads less amenities, but you can camp wherever you like, within reason obviously.
Great clip mate . Hey next time making tea bring water to the boil then put in tea leaves boil first another 30second then pull off swing then drink . Other wise your stewing the leaves. 👍🏼
If I get to go anywhere overseas from America I’m making the long haul to Australia. What’s the name of those little trucks with the Diesel engines you guys turn into off-roaders. Not land cruisers
nice one mate, great video, great concept glad the YT gurus decided to push your video my way. bit different to my camps! Keen the check your other videos, good luck with the channel, subbed ✌🏻
Oh dear, that knife was a disaster! Shame.. because it looked so capable at the start, but at least you know now before you really need a knife you can trust.
So I've got to ask, being that it's Australia, camping like that in your swags aren't you concerned about poisonous spiders, poisonous snakes and oh yeah, ticks? 🤔
Just a respectful word of caution / warning. The spinning of the billy tea has caused 3rd degree burns on children and folks and is not good. Please don't encourage this, its completely unnecessary tea leaves naturally sink to the bottom, just sit the billy to one side once boiled like a tea pot or a gentle swirl and let it sit. It only takes one weakly built / bought billy to break mid spin send scalding hot water into the camp and wrecking the whole show. Beware gentlemen, otherwise the vid and concept is excellent. Congratulations and the one piece underwear is on point !!
I like your video but you could have stayed out there for about at least 3 to 5 days to make it a survival challenge sora speak because you had. Food with you.

I like the historical flavor. That’s how I’ve been doing it for decades, though I’ve softened up recently with my age. Cheers from southwestern US.
loved your video.mate.

Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed, was lots of fun making things too like the billy and knife. Also great way to use some of the grandparents old kit
Was going to tag you in this Luke 😁
1:44 the swagger! Absolutely beautiful country… I don’t know how I got here, but I’m glad I’m watching 😂

This looks like a fantastic way to camp. Reminds me of scouts.
Enjoyed that fellas. I've been thinking about doing the same thing for quite a while. Good thing getting back in touch with our descendants, and the way they did things early on out in the bush.
Love the challenge, have done some half period correct ones since but planning to go full period again soon. Such a fun experience

This is my thoughts. It was made brittle at some point in the making process. Cooled too fast at some point?
Nice vid lads, I'd wanna see more
I'm subscriber #322, since it was 321 when I started this video. This looks like a fine ol' time for any age, era, or time in history.
Liked for the old school camping, but I would double like it for the goldmember reference if I could!
Loved guys, more, more!

Good stuff men👍
Looks like a great trip & fun as 👌
I was wondering, how did you figure out the spot/route to camp at? I'm always struggling to find ways to find spots to "wild" or even just dispersed camp. How did you go about it?
Best thing to do is find a NP and track beside it following rivers and creeks. Each state is different with the camping laws though.
If ur an Aussie look for state forests. Similar to national parks but less managed; ie worse roads less amenities, but you can camp wherever you like, within reason obviously.

Where was the jolly jumbuck mate?
Fair play dudes, that was a great camp out.

Wow and I thought period camping was that vacation when mom was always grumpy and only dad knew why…Have fun stay safe.
What grade steel is your knife bud.
I hit this accidentally but now I'm wondering if he nabs a jolly jumbuck and stuff it in his tucker bag🤔😃
If I get to go anywhere overseas from America I’m making the long haul to Australia. What’s the name of those little trucks with the Diesel engines you guys turn into off-roaders. Not land cruisers
Ouch, that knife is brittle.😢
Good to see young guys doing this. Good on you!
Wow..i like you camp brother...❤️❤️❤️
Well done guys!! This is the way it should be done!! :-P!!
was this at "Aberfeldy Bridge" campsite? just north of Walhalla...
Na was in wombat state forest, we love walhalla though
@@saltyonions54 looked really similar. I'll have to check out wombat state forest.
Well done fellas, that would have been a lot of fun
A tough Aussie Bush man having gloves 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Good vid. Some of the old boys would dig a small 'hip hole' under the swag.
nice one mate
1st time seeing you anyway but nice video? I enjoyed very much. I learned what not to do. Lol
That is a cool hut. My local Westfield is creepier than that!
Shit are you Brendo from riding with Tom ??

nice one mate, great video, great concept glad the YT gurus decided to push your video my way. bit different to my camps! Keen the check your other videos, good luck with the channel, subbed ✌🏻
That's not a knife.
Noice.
😎😎😎👍👍👍👍
Too many spiders in Australia. Gdluck!
Hahah these were just baby ones. Ran into a red belly black snack a few week ago. That was sketchy
Red belly’s aren’t that bad, it’s the browns that’ll get ya
Oh dear, that knife was a disaster! Shame.. because it looked so capable at the start, but at least you know now before you really need a knife you can trust.
the zips were cheating, I demand another one sans zips. Corker video.
So I've got to ask, being that it's Australia, camping like that in your swags aren't you concerned about poisonous spiders, poisonous snakes and oh yeah, ticks? 🤔
Nope cos they are real men.
How do you think the blokes way back in the day did things?
💯 like

Good thing I didn’t have any zips or insect mesh, just a humble bed roll
🥦
