Brazillian is the only thing I will use for fretboards, It makes an incredible difference to the sound, especially when paired with a unicorn horn nut.
I guess if you're at that end of the market, it isn't BS, but for the vast majority of us who build. buy and actually PLAY guitars, this sort of stuff is reserved for those who value the value of the instrument and the bragging rights that go with it above all else. I have friends who have vintage cars but can't drive them because it would devalue them. Convoluted.

What I know about CITES regulations, you could lose in the bottom of a thimble. I assume that this material has been in this country for decades and may have been purchased from a private stash somewhere. I recall many years ago, a lumber buyer from Martin Guitar telling me that Brazilian Rosewood move around from time to time and that they had turned away offers to buy the very same lot of it more than once, having seen it several times. He said that could actually recognize many of the same planks.

LMAO, so my un-educated opinion is that 80% of the sound or tonal quality comes from the soundboard and how it is handled and everything else contributes a small amount. But hey if you like the look of something enough to spend big bucks on it have fun.. I got notified of this "sale" as well, you could pair the fingerboard with the $8500.00 "tree" back and sides.. I always get a kick out of all the voodoo around wood...

I agree with you, but the lure of acquiring the extremely rare, unique, old and beautiful is strong. And when you've got money to piss away....
