      Except to say, don't be misguided in just looking at the price tag when judging affordability and budgets...The reason that these type of boats (age & size) appear to be so cheap and such good value is simply supply and demand...anyone that can afford to properly run a boat like this can afford to buy a brand new one...and so they do buy new (or much newer). Those that can just about afford the price tag certainly can NOT afford to run a boat like this. A good rule of thumb for running costs is up to 10% of the new build cost. So in this case well over £100k per year - and that is honestly realistic once you look at mooring, lifting, antifoul, engine/genset/watermaker/thrusters/other servicing, as well as general upgrades and upkeep of a boat this size and age.
      Conversely, looking at new boats can often be much cheaper!! I've seen first hand several cases of clients buying boats like this brand new, seriously screwing down the price and getting a ton of extras, running it for 18 months or so with virtual nil running cost, and then selling for similar to purchase price. That is more in line with most peoples budgets. Admittedly you need a couple mil in cash in first place. But this 2001 boat could well cost you a lot more. In 2 years you could easily spend anywhere between £100k and £200k (depending on how lucky/unlucky you are) and then end up having to take £250k to get it sold. Now that IS expensive!!

      @blewyd 3 года назад +3

      @@aquacruisedb Thats not true at all. We purchased a 52' hatteras from 1996, used. There is no way we can afford a new Hatteras in that size (2.5m+) yet we can still afford the maintenance, storage, and money aside for major repairs.

    • @aquacruisedb
      @aquacruisedb 3 года назад

      @@blewyd Please read what I said more carefully, I never said that people who couldn't afford new couldn't afford to run used! And my comment is based on my 30 years of owning both brand new and 20 yr old motor boats from 40'-65'. I would also add that the Hatteras is a relatively low maintenance boat (i.e. a good boat!) you cannot compare it to a V65 in terms of maintenance costs

      I do not happen to agree with the 10% rule and nether does this channel if you have a look through it you will find a video in witch he totally debunked the 10% theory
      It is simply fantastic that a normal person could spend 120.000£ a year on this boat only if you are Abramovich with a Captain on 60.000$ a year is it possible
      30.000 for mornings in an exclusive marina 20.000 running costs 20.000 fuel ⛽
      It could just as easy be 7.000£ for marina in a nice location and 5000 on fuel, i used to have a 19 Mt boat and run it for 15.000 a year doing the work myself
      However this doesn't look so much like fun it does seem a bit big.
      For me now

    As a family boat on the med, I love the fact that the cockpit is a full wet area, so everyone could come in out of the sea and have lunch, it's a much better use of the space.

  • @Dobermanator
    @Dobermanator 5 лет назад +3

    Your excitement is well founded on this one. This boat screams "all for one and one for all," with that open cockpit area. When you first mentioned crew cabin I thought you meant throw a blanket over the sun pad and bunk down there. What a surprise to see a work room (no reason to make a mess inside the goodness of the living area's), a washing machine and stand up engine room, and a real crew cabin too. Such a great "older" yacht, with the below deck saloon / galley unique from today (unless you have a much, much larger boat). I really love the new boat designs and features but my heart still pounds for some things of the past and this is one of those, well done finding it.

    I do have to agree with you, this has a very nice layout. I’m personally not a fan of fly bridges, they often make a boat look rather high and visually unbalanced, but also fly bridge boats have too many sections for my liking. As you were walking through, I thought exactly what you said, you only sleep in a cabin. Obviously you can see how design has changed, but as for a layout, I like this a lot.

    • @nabilsheta1280
      @nabilsheta1280 5 лет назад +8

      Actually I have to disagree as the flybridge on my 62 Squadron is truly the most used part on the boat as it is the best way to embrace your surroundings and enjoy the sunny weather with all of your guests; also it is alot more fun to operate the boat from the flybridge as you feel included with whats going on. I only use the lower helm when cruising in bad weather or at night.

      We seem to have similar thoughts, I would love something like the Whitehaven 6000 Sunbridge or the Belize day bridge 66, the only ones imo that have that balance between height and length within my budget and still use the bow area for the sun-lounging and general "chill" area unlike the otherwise beautiful Palm Beach 70

    An oldie but goodie as they say. This particular layout I think is my favourite of this series of Princess of V yachts - a real sleek and stylish classic. Huge cockpit all on one level just makes sense... and that saloon is to die for. Why bother with massive cabins as you're not in them all day, they're just for sleeping. I'd rather have more space dedicated to socializing and entertaining, and one can do that in spades with this design. What a comfy and classy boat, yet sporty as well. This is something one can spend several weeks away on.

    I thought from my first viewings you were promoting boats in excess of 1 mill, but this is a great one for more of a budget centred watercraft, it certainly beats my first experience of dinghy sailing on the solent! I have to say I really like your informative style and that you never really have anything bad to say about any floating home or sport craft, you always seem to find a positive slant, even when it's not ideal! Personally, I am considering something that I can live and work on, but there again, I am in Thailand now, not at all close to the UK! Do you ever do any vid's in Thailand or Asia? By the elite standards, my budget will be somewhat more modest than most, but just a few quid (or Thai Baht) more than this one!

    Funnily enough I have a 2001 V65 which I absolutely love and is moored in the Med. we kept the two tender garages and only use the crew cabin for storage as it is pretty claustrophobic and I wouldn’t want to submit anyone to staying in it. You are absolutely correct however when you say that although you trade off the size of bedrooms for the saloon it is ok because you spend more time (when awake) in the saloon. I did really like the enhanced cockpit canvas cover which your reviewed boat had and think that is really useful for off season use. We have two 1300 MAN engines and although thirsty, we still get 38 knots top speed and the boat is such a classic - I think of it as the E Type Jag of the sea. Buying an older boat can mean massive bargains. There’s a couple of things I’d change, but what a fabulous boat. Love the saloon and leaving the cockpit open like that. That’s a lot of boat for the money

    Still a great boat despite its age. For the price of a current Lamborghini, one could invest and buy one of these lol. Thank you Nick for giving us more slightly more affordable boats, do more of these!

    Quick question: on some of these boats I see the entrance to the crew area is under seats/steps. That’s all good for space saving but what happens if the crew can’t out as someone is sat on the hatch? Does this limit the number of times they can transit to their chill area/home and work?

    You should review the old 1980s Sunseekers. XPS34, Tomahawk Thunderhawk etc. Such beauties..

    Nick, great video, as always. You brought it to the point. I never understood the sense of all these big midship owners cabins. You only go there to sleep.

    AmaInf layout. It’s a bit boring the standard setup each time, this is lovely. It’s nice seeing one lived in too, you can see where the real storage is!

    Awesome, I love reviews of boats under 500k, more in line with what I would be willing to look at and I think most here too haha
