Thanks! think I've used the wrong type of plastic though, the stuff I has starts to deform around 60 degrees, so that might not survive summer in a car!
Did you manage to make it louder ? Replaced my headunit but the sound is not as loud as with the oem one. Seems like the amp is not working properly, any idea why ?
Hey, this is a problem when replacing the BMW units with aftermarket setups. The original units provide a balanced audio output, which is about 7Db louder then stock headunit amps, which is why you have this effect of it getting quieter. I "solved" this by upping the EQ on my headunit to be maxed out which has made it bearable but it really isn't the best, my next step is a custom amp setup using BMW's oem wiring, still working out some kinks with it
Ive just bought a e46 touring with harmon kardon and looking to do a similar install, has the pioneer head unit made any difference to the sound quality compared to the standard head unit? Thanks in advance
The pioneer I've used provides a lot more equaliser control, to probably sounds better, but it doesn't go as loud as the stock headunit because of using the preout RCA outputs, I've also noticed distortion when playing loud music but I'm sure that's coming from the speakers, so will be upgrading them next. The only reason I swapped was to get Bluetooth audio and calling tbh
@Keats Garage I thought the sound would have been the same or louder as you are using the correct harmon kardon leads with the RCAs. Those iso leads apparently still use the stock harmon kardon amp to power the speakers. So unsure why it's not sounding as good. I'm upgrading to the pioneer deh-x8700dab as I want dab radio, bluetooth audio/calls and subwoofer install also
@@DIYTee yeah, I might revisit it at some point, it's only a problem when driving with the windows down tbh so I'm not fussed for now 👍 would eventually like to replace the whole system but from what I've read that a lot of wiring work
@@Keats.Garage yeh it would be a shame to redo the whole wiring if you have harmon kardon already its kinda good enough to be honest. I done some research into the distortion your having and it might be down to buying a PACSNI-1 to boost signal. It eliminates amp turn on noise and/or limited audio output. I will be installing mine on the weekend or weekend after depending on delivery of my items. I will let you know how it goes.
What a curve ball with the 3d printer, big fan
It's very cool! hopefully be able to use it to mock up bits for future builds
Ended up looking really good

@@Keats.Garage that should be a fun mess to clean up if it does melt!
I think it just goes limp until much hotter, but we'll see! 😂
