  • How To Make A Fabric Book Start to Finish - Tutorial - Slow Stitch Journal & Autumn Stitchery Flip Through
    This is my favourite way to keep my slow stitched art. I have posted a video in the past showing how I make these books, but here’s another one.

    • How To Make A Fabric B...
    I used an accordion fold to make this book. There are other ways to make fabric books but I prefer this method. You could actually make the accordion and then stitch your pages directly on it. Stitch the pages together and add a cover when you’re done.
    To make a fabric book you can use all felt or fabric. Felt is good because you don’t need to hem any edges.

    Wish I had seen this video before I put my fabric book together. Oh my what a chore it was. You made it look so much easier and better. At least I know how if I should do another.

      I made signatures and bound them like in a journal. Took a bit of fussing getting everything to line up...front and back. Even used invisible thread so a lot of it wouldn't show. Came out ok but a smidge wonky.@@cookingjennfer

      Love your journal. Wish I had seen it before I started trying the book method. The French knots idea were so helpful. Also, I have a lot of batik material which would be great for mountains and waves. Thanks for the ideas.

    Hands down THE most helpful video I’ve found for making a fabric book that hides all the reverse sides of the stitchery and I cannot thank you enough - YOUR extremely clear and detailed video has finally given me the confidence to make the cloth book I’ve been so desperately wanting to make and haven’t dared cut the fabric for as I didn’t know if it would work out.       Thank you! Just don’t be in a rush and keep stitching. As long as you’re enjoying yourself it doesn’t have to be perfect and you’ll find your own style.

      Thank you! For the small landscapes I was actually thinking of looking for an old tin, maybe one that used to hold index cards. I would keep them loose in there so I can pull them out and look at them as if they were photos.

    Thank you for sharing this. I love both bookbinding and textile art, so I have been looking for ways to do both at the same time. I don't like the accordion fold myself, but I thought that your use of it here suited the project well. Have you used other binding methods to make your books?

      I have used a different method for my last book. I followed the instructions from Daniela Mellen’s channel. I think they’re called signatures stitched onto a spine.

      Thanks! They’re from the dollar store. Sometimes they have solid colours. I check the towels every time I go there. I have also thrifted some nice cloth napkins to use in my stitching.

      Thanks! I’m in Canada. I actually got them at the dollar store (Dollarama). Sometimes they bring in towels without patterns so I always check out the towels whenever I go there. I have also picked up some really nice cloth napkins from the thrift store in the past so don’t forget to check the napkins and tablecloths when you go thrifting.

      That was a kitchen towel I picked up at the dollar store. I think it was cotton. You can even use a pillowcase. Anything will work. I also like to pick up fabric items from the thrift store and cut them up.

    WHAT KIND OF FABRIC ARE YOU USING? SORRY FOR THE CAPS. BUT I HAVE BAD EYESIGHT AND CAN'T READ SMALL PRINT. SO, I HAVE TO TYPE IN CAPS.

      THE INSIDE IS KITCHEN TOWELS AND THE COVER IS FELT. YOU CAN USE COTTON FABRIC FOR EVERYTHING.

      About 6” x 4.5” I think for those I just cut a standard sheet of craft felt in half.
