YOOO it's been a while and the audio is a little BASSIER (BASSYER?) than I would have liked but I've gotten a new mic so it should be even better going forward. I still have a lot of different videos that I'm working on to get to you guys but with Screen Rant videos taking most of my time up, it's still going to be kinda infrequent. BUT I have a short solution, since I streamed during E3 and a couple of you guys enjoyed it, I was thinking about making it a weekly (probably biweekly) thing to stream on Twitch. Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in and as always thanks for watching and putting up with all my rambling thoughts!

I watched this movie twice and I enjoy it. I wouldn’t defend this movies from criticism. I like when they are in stressful situations they’re compelled to exercise. It’s so goofy.

slight correction. The interview wasn't for a different gym. It was a flashback showing how he got hired at Sun Gym to begin with.

Ah I hadn't noticed that the intro section was also Sun Gym, thanks for pointing that out

I’ve told several people that this is actually a really fun, dark comedy. I don’t think any of them have followed up on my recommendation.

1:25 Klaus from Umbrella Academy also falls into that category. Though in his case, it actually worked. A little too well, in fact.
    3:20 Same here.
Great review, man. Glad to see you’re back on it! Not a movie I see myself watching but I enjoy your takes on it. Also your editing skills are sublime!

I think the movie isn't sympathizing those criminals.
If you think the plot of movie from perspective of these douchbags, you will realize these is nothing but excuses to justify their actions.
But first you have to be aware of the real life event before watching the movie.

Nice vid!! Just rewatched it for the 50th time lol !! It wasn’t that much of course but this is my 5th or 6th favorite movie of all time !!! I love everything despite it is very disrespectful to the victims of the real crime, even the guy who was the victim (victor) sued the company that made the movie for his portrayal ..... but i love Mark walhberg, top 5 one of my fav actors, love all other actors too, Michael Bay is my fav action director... love the photography and style and soundtrack of this movie. The black comedy/drama/action are well divided in my opinion despite this might give you the impression the movie doesn’t know what it wants to be.... but I absolutely love this movie, like i said one of my fav movies ever !!!! I think it’s my 2nd fav michael Bay’s movie, bad boys 2 is my 1st fav!

Cool review. Much different style than most of the boring ones that are on here. Well done.
Maybe I am missing something, but I didn’t find the movie to have such racist characters. I mean the cliche relationship between the black kid and the fat woke white girl was definitely the cheesiest or cringiest part of the movie…and was one of the 90% of the true story that was false, but whatever. I mean if you consider the Rock asking a Jewish Man if He was a Jew, and also the Rock saying He knows nothing of an Asian guy after hearing Johnny Wu’s name to be racist parts, well then yeah I guess it’s racist.
What he said about America being the most buffed up country is probably false given the results of most of the strong men competitions, but steroids were big in the mid 90s so it makes sense..and although He used fictional characters to draw inspiration, he wasn’t wrong in that the US is a place where You can take advantage of a capitalistic market to establish personal wealth.
I don’t know why you labeled it as USA propaganda, but i think it’s that it came from such a delusional character…which I understand.
I also found the movie enjoyable, and found the Rock’s character, Paul Doyle, to have stolen the show. His portrayal of a soft-hearted and naive overly big badass is absolutely hilarious…he describes Himself perfectly when He KO’s Victor Kershaw angry that He forced Him to do it as He has responsibilities…therefore letting us know not to ever mistake his kindness for weakness. He’s a “Teddy bear” but in the end of the day, he’s going to do what he has to do no matter how ruthless it is. The fact that he’s too scared to be in a house with. Two bodies, but is completely ok and even comfortable with grilling their hands I can only attribute to Coke.
I TOTALLY agree with your problem with the end of the movie. The Director took what was a very horrific and tragic series of events and turned it into a brilliant, dark comedy. I would imagine that the families of the victims would find this movie rather insulting, but that aside, I thought it was done well. However, listening to Lugo’s speech at the end, while he was walking through the prison yard, I almost felt like what he did was admirable. It was like the message of the movie was “hey, I really took a good shot at the American dream and for that, I will not be doing empty time and can always hold my head high. Even though he exposed himself as a complete hypocritical, narcissistic psychopath the entire movie, you have no choice, but to feel for him. He comes across like a neglected, orphan or an abused child. He preaches about the American dream, and how he likes, self-made people, but yet he attacked a self-made person, and took everything from him. Victor was a dick, of course. But what he did was inexcusable, and as the FBI agent said, it’s Un American. I don’t exactly know what he meant by that. I don’t know what goes on in every other country for maybe that is completely acceptable behavior elsewhere… but I would definitely say it’s inhumane. Doorball was a great example of how we are all or at least many of us are capable of some pretty horrific things if we are pushed to the brink… and Daniel pushed him. He would’ve never gotten there. He would’ve been still watering the streets at his Taco Bell, or wherever he worked, just worried about the dimensions of his biceps. But Danielle being the classic manipulator that he is brought all of the ugly and evil out of him. But he was the only one who enjoyed torturing Victor. Daniel did it because he wanted money. The only thing Paul ever did to him was punch him because he couldn’t let him get away and he felt bad about it all day and all night even at the club around strippers… but Doorball I had a little bit too much fun with it. He even says at one point “ it’s my torture chamber now”. To my knowledge, she was only supposed to watch him, not torture him. But I think it’s a great example of how certain circumstances will reveal certain characteristics of people. I know I just wrote a whole bunch of shit and I doubt anyone is going to read this whole thing, but I’m off from work today and I just took the ball and ran with it like a lunatic.

I actually appreciate it when people type out long responses because even if I don’t agree, it’s much easier to get where a person’s coming from. For the racism parts, I was really only talking about Mark Wahlberg’s character and his treatment of Tony Shalhoub’s with his very America-centric views. I also tend to call his characters racist based off of Mark’s racist past that I make fun, although I do think he’s learned from it. I hope at least. For the USA propaganda part, It was supposed to be because, like you said, it’s coming from a person that only looks at what can be done for him. Daniel is like you said, a narcissistic psychopath and I think him being so interested in the American dream while trying to take away someone else’s actual American dream is just like propaganda. It’s a falsified reality. The movie positions it more aspirational than reprehensible which is a major failing of the movie since it’s based on real life. I honestly don’t think I would have as big a problem with it if it was totally fake because then you can just hand wave things away by saying it’s fiction but like you said, the ending kinda makes it feel like you should feel bad for him and I don’t think that was the right way to go. I think you bring up a good point about Daniel bringing the negative aspects out of the other two characters as well. Happy you enjoyed the video too!
