- What's up NUB NATION!! Today I attempted surfing pipeline for the first time in over ten years. Clearly the waves weren't very big for here in Hawaii, but it's honestly still intimidating to paddle out there & take off on some waves. Jamie Obrien, legend Banzai Pipe surfer, was cool enough to give me the North Shore Rick Kane treatment & show me the ropes!! The surf on Oahu has been awesome so far for the VLOG & Jamie is working on soem Who is JOB vlogs as well so look forward to those!! Thank you guys for the stoke!! - Love Ben

I used to live on Kauai and Maui and there'll be solid 10' to 12' faces and the locals will say its 4'. So ridiculous!
@@joeblow1942 Lived in Kauai as well and was thinking the same thing .We both know what looks like fun small back door is really pretty scary .Takes a bit to get used to all the heavy water .Was out at Hanalei Bay when the locals were calling it 4 to 6 feet .Paddle out the back only to discover i am not out the back at all and it's more like 12 to 15 feet .Pretty sure they were trying to kill me .

I surfed 'Ehukai (literally yards away} on a "flat" day. Got barreled almost full stand up on many waves.......Almost ate it on a few scattered rocks.... Locals were .....well.......mopping their floors, bummed it was flat. Jamie was 8 at the time. I may have even surfed alongside him. There were a few kooky kids in the water as I remember. You, Ben Gravy were 3. Fuck I feel old now.

Don't surf any island except Oahu. Lava and tiger sharks. The best right on the North shore is Haleiwa. This is where all the locals surf. Show respect. At sunset use a eight foot board or you end up swimming all day.

The thing I love MOST about your vlog is that, besides the insane lingo, you and Jordan are just regular people. Everyday folks that have been blessed to do what you love. I love that there is no arrogance or pride in what you do too. To watch you ALWAYS give love to strangers (especially the young ones) is SOOOOO heartwarming. If more people took a similar approach to treating people with love and respect like you do, it would be a FAR better place. God bless you both, and praying for continued blessing for you to reach more people on this platform!!!

Please describe a little more the spots you surf. i missed it espacially in the vlogs of the two very famous spots you surfed: kelly slater wave and pipeline. I will never surf both of them in my live. It would have been super interesting to know what it is like to surf these spots. for the kelly slater for example: what is the different to an natural wave? how do you describe or feel the difference of your point the view? the same with pipeline - what is the feeling? there are so many questions they pop just in my mind: how is the current, how shallow is it? does it feel different in way of more power? how difficult to catch? how is the vibe in the lineup with the locals? etc. thank you very much! keep on rolling! Does Pipe at this size compare at all to any of Jersey’s heaviest fall/winter days? Crazy to see how inviting it looks but once you’re out there in person it’s probably real sh*t

I guess going with Jamie into Pipe/Backdoor, you are allowed to catch waves, but if you go alone catching a wave would be very difficult. It was not even crowded .Anyway, you took some 5 foot waves Backdoor, nice barrels ... for the Hawaians that would be 2 foot :-). You could even talk about size. Did you find it dangereous ? We did not hear Jamies advices before you entered the water. Looking forward for the next vlog ... Say hello to your patient girlfriend, you have a diamond there bearing with you all the time. Why the vests and jet ski it's only 10 foot?? I know why it makes it more exciting and dramatic on film!! Seriously though nothing under 20 foot should be vests and jet skis. Unless you are training for the bigger stuff which I belive Ben is doing.

You should try Ted's Bakery, they have the best breakfast in the North Shore. Last month my wife and I were exactly the same spot where you were in Sunset beach, we had so much fun with the shore breaks but it took the whole day to get the sand off us lol.

Epic! So cool to see you surf pipe. I surfed it a couple years ago. There is no video that shows how scary that drop is with the reef looking back at you.
A lot of respect for Ben. He’s not afraid to admit he’s scared and then gets out there and goes for it anyway. I’m sure there’s some of that in all of us, just most never are that open. Surfed my entire life and I relate well with this dreamer.
