Back when I was competing in the 80’s as a hammer thrower I’d occasionally have to put the shot if our second string shot putter wasn’t there and I’d have been happy with 13-14m considering I rarely if ever practiced it. A good club, first string putter would be more like 17m plus if I remember correctly. You should’ve looked out a proper circle with a foot board, there not hard to find and and would’ve helped with your distance. The world record was done using the “discus” technique and it’s extremely hard to do, most used the glide, still not easy but probably easier for a newbie of your size. I’d be interested to see what you could do with a little expert coaching at a Highland games event.
I used to do the spinning putt, probably because I also competed in the discus and started with hammer(before I ripped my anterior deltoid to shreds crashing a scooter). . . but found the spin (if done correctly) made the release much easier. .

I loved this video. I was a shot-putter in my youth and my personal best was around 15 meters/50 feet. And at best I was about 1/3rd as strong as either of these gentlemen! The basic technique involves a transfer of power. If you are throwing right-handed, as you release the throw your whole body spins counter-clockwise and you land on your right foot and your left foot winds up behind you. Also, cuts down on the chances of injuring your shoulder.
As some others have said, can we see discus, hammer and javelin as well please Eddie? It is entertaining to watch and actually gives specialist athletes a tip of the hat when we see how bloody hard it is even for a ridiculously strong lad such as yourself.

Eddie first off, you're a legend. Your technique was hilarious 😂 worth watching the whole video just for that, I've seen people walk out of a pub with more grace after a 20 pint session 😂 I've always thought that I would love to see how a strongman would cope in a game of rugby. You'd make a great number 8 in the pack.
I'd love to see that, as said in other posts with a bit of technique training Eddie should be hitting 17 metres. Going beyond that is years of work and like Eddie said, it is something you start learning as a kid to get really good.
So much of it is legs and hips. The spin technique is really helpful if you can get good enough at it. I used that when I competed in decathlon because I was tiny (140lbs) and although I was explosive I just didn't have the strength to put up good numbers even though we were still using the 12lb shot because I was in Jr Olympics. I topped out at about 44', which is one of the reasons (along with a 5'6 high jump) that I didn't compete at the college level.
I remember trying shot put, love it but hands down the most complicated sport I've ever tried for something that looked so simple. I never could get the hang of the spin or kick back technique. My coach always said that thr goal was for your arm and hand to guide the release and basically have no force behind it. All the energy was from lower body and centripetal force. I never got it and just kept trying to muscle the damn thing. Learning to skate was easier.
At 00:39 I was convinced he said "and we have an Olympic shotputter here" - the camera pans to Pat flexing. For a good few minutes after I was convinced this guy was an Olympian. I was like "How the hell does this guy not know the world record?!"
Olympic but he can't spin his shot putt technique. I'm surprised both of them weren't doing any technique, Eddie could go further than Ryan Crouser if he had technique man's a crazy powerlifter lifts even heavier than Ryan
With the amount of technique I have I wish I could just transfer it to Eddie, it was so hard watching him throw this thing lol 😂 the whole skip jump was frustrating
Take a look at Olympic hammer throw. Talk about technique & explosive strength! 7.26 kg weight on end of a 120 cm cable. Men’s record is something like 87 meters.

It is great for punching power and speed. Since my coach in high school made us practice right and left handed my punching speed and power was incredible. I also did discus and 100m and 200m sprints. I had been lifting weights since I was 12years old and nothing did for my punching power and speed what shot and discus did. It taught me how to truly get the power of my legs and hips into my arms. Just like wrestling in high school took my boxing and martial arts to a new level. The amount of training time and sparring time was insane in wrestling so my timing, distancing, rhythm really increased. It also taught me how to settle in and relax quickly. It also taught me how to feel comfortable super close to my opponent. Amazing how un-related sports can really help with characteristics needed for other sports! Being "athletic" versus being an athlete are totally different things. I think variety is good for the body!
This had made my Day, I used to throw shot put as a teen competing in nationals. At 16 I could throw a 6.25kg, 16.2 meters and my 7.26kg was 12.7m. so was epic seeing a WSM doing close to what I did
Christian Tovar what are you on about ? I was a shot putter for years and was English schools champion 3x and AAA junior champion ....I know exactly what I’m on about 17m is a good national standard shot put he would win most competitions ...internationally it’s not good enough but he would place in the British championships with ease at 17m possibly 2nd ....and if Eddie isn’t perfectly built for shot putting I give up ,he’s 6’3” and 25 stone + You actually have no idea what you’re on about
@Christian Tovar dont forget hes on a mountain of steroids ,natural he would be closer to 280 and a similar build to a taller kovacks ,plus we know how strong he is ...he has the basis to be an exceptional shot putter hes just done basically 50ft standing not even knowing how to hold the thing and frankly looked like an imbecile ,i guarantee in no time with a hint of any technique he could throw 19-20m
John T you should listen to Christian. Speed is more important and there’s nothing quick about Eddie. BUT when it comes to his cardio level, shot put would be perfect for him.
Joe F shot put is about power which is a combo or speed and strength. What he lacks in speed he makes up for in strength. I think he could do great with technique work.

I’ve been waiting for a Strongman to try our sport for so long.
With the amount of technique I have I wish I could just transfer it to Eddie, it was so hard watching him throw this thing lol 😂 the whole skip jump was frustrating
Fr lol. The spin and the way he didnt keep the ball near his neck before throwing.
Big love the beast great video full of inspiring effort cheers
When you use an industrial sander/buffer as a muscle massager... BEAST
Take a look at Olympic hammer throw. Talk about technique & explosive strength! 7.26 kg weight on end of a 120 cm cable. Men’s record is something like 87 meters.
I like the tape measure is all the way to the end.... And after the first throw you realise your never getting close to the end other then bringing the tape measure back ... Great video guys
Shot put requires a lot of strength, but the unreal technique and sheer explosion in the toss is AWESOME
Hanna needs to be in front of the camera a little more often :)
Aye. 😉
@Sebastian Henkins 😆
Bêta simp
Kiritsugu nvm I was say something but I forgot
Disgraceful simp is what I was trying to say
Thor breaks a record unofficially Eddie: hold my wispa
waqy gamin' there wasn’t a judge tho...
You're doing great! Just keep those hands up. They're always the first to go during a fight
Well done Guys. As a former throws coach, it is all about enjoying the sport!
2:45 I almost spit out my water. Damn, that was hilarious. 😄
LOL get eddies dad to weight it XD
SIR EDDIE HALL I sware you are definitely different gravey you are some man for one man broke the mold when the made you love ur videos especially in these hard times an thank you for them stay safe you an your family
Respect for you for not letting strongman ego from showing us how much you respect a guy that has incredible skill and power
"That's a 2m circumference diameter" We call that 'Geometr-Eddie'
Hey Eddie, could you do a video chronicling how you got into becoming a you-tuber, how you met Hannah and Pat, some of your most viewed videos and how you produce and edit your videos using what software ect, sort of a behind the scenes
Eddie I am a big fan man,you can try the discus too. Also you can do a colab with a professional Shot Putter or DT-er like Joe Kovacs,Tom Walsh. Our sport need more recognition. We lift heavy,do a lot of technique work, explosiveness, speed work. It's a beautiful hard ass sport!
Love from Bulgaria !
You 3 are absolutely hilarious 😂 that spinning thing might have been the best thing I have ever seen, laugh so hard I fell off the sofa 🙈🙈🤣🤣🤣 would be fun to see more of Hanna, she is adorable 😊😊 lots of love to all of you from Sweden 😊
Next we need the hammer throw, that could be interesting
Eddie you’re ruthless😭
I love that even though its not a sport he does but when he sees an athlete doing something awesome he can recognize it
It is great for punching power and speed.
I laught at his rotational technique, he do the women's technique from the 30s 🤣🤣
Council: I think we have a mole problem. They keep digging holes in the field.
Eddie and Patrick: yep!
I love how they do the spin, Stop and then throw. LOL great form.
There’s no doubting his confidence that’s for sure.
1:37 who else knew this was coming? I literally said it with him... "A record of the world".
Lmao!! His dad weighed it so it's fine 😂😂love it
This had made my Day, I used to throw shot put as a teen competing in nationals. At 16 I could throw a 6.25kg, 16.2 meters and my 7.26kg was 12.7m. so was epic seeing a WSM doing close to what I did
Lmfao, I loved the spinning😂😂😂🤣
eddie is perfectly built for it ...if he had even 10% technique he would easily be pushing a good national standard of 17m or so
Christian Tovar what are you on about ? I was a shot putter for years and was English schools champion 3x and AAA junior champion ....I know exactly what I’m on about 17m is a good national standard shot put he would win most competitions ...internationally it’s not good enough but he would place in the British championships with ease at 17m possibly 2nd ....and if Eddie isn’t perfectly built for shot putting I give up ,he’s 6’3” and 25 stone +
You actually have no idea what you’re on about
@Christian Tovar dont forget hes on a mountain of steroids ,natural he would be closer to 280 and a similar build to a taller kovacks ,plus we know how strong he is ...he has the basis to be an exceptional shot putter hes just done basically 50ft standing not even knowing how to hold the thing and frankly looked like an imbecile ,i guarantee in no time with a hint of any technique he could throw 19-20m
@@josefoo77 i really shouldnt ...i was a very good shot putter for many years ...if you dont think Eddie could be an amazing shot putter with some training then i dont know what to say :D just because hes a 360lb lump now dont let that cloud you .
01:38 sit down children.... gather around
Well done guys... This should be the start of an Olympic Series, trying them all out. So Javalin next please!, I can't wait for the long jump and the pole vault hahaha
“We’ll get eddies dad to weigh it” BANG 😂😂
11:24 Bet Hannah has to put up with this all the time with these 2 😂
(All throwers are laughing right now 😂😂)
Ahah
Hhaah
Ha
Yeah 😂😂
we had a start facing backwards bending forwards on one leg then double hop spin n fling method taught to us at school. gosh i am old. x x
Loved the spin, Eddie 'Twinkletoes' Hall at his finest :D
