    Tony Pond gets 5 top stage times in the rover vittesse , (10 yards long 5 yards wide, 15 tons of british pride.) Thats an awesome drive in that car, respect to the late great Tony Pond.

    I did it in 82 in a factory spec TR7 V8 & we were pulling 138mph on a couple of the stages on the final day.
    That figure was calculated from the rev counter (had a max rpm telltale) & the gear & final drive ratio not the speedo!
    Good old days - no bales &artificail chicanes to slow the cars.

    We were there that year, the weather was truly awful, but the competition was fantastic - probably one of the best tarmac rallies ever seen with predominately 2wd cars

    Hachiroku and 930 in the same race? those are my all time favorites ! Tony Pond is amazing cause that Rover seems like a very difficult car since its huge and has a V8, then again all ive driven at the limit is lightweight 4 cyl cars (240SX and AWD Civic)

  • @buckyohare420
    @buckyohare420 14 лет назад +1

    @SPYDOC1 I think it was a bit heavier than that lol

    @buckyohare420 lol your right, it was the weight of a modern cruise liner, I'll bet it was good fun to throw around.

    Any one know why the reverse lights on Pond's Rover come on at around 8:40?

    • @paulmartinwoods
      @paulmartinwoods 4 года назад

      I can answer that as I did some prep work on that car, welding mainly, at Cowley. The reversing lights activated due to this, the rear axle an diff would overheat due to the massive torque loads. The only way to cool it sufficiently was to use coolant injectors, the power for this was taken from wiring loom to rear lights, so under heavy loads as you can see the lights came on as circuit was being used. Hope this clears up that little mystery, as you can see the lights only come under higher loads, tight corners, wheels spinning, etc.

    Why were the Audi drivers removing the stickers?

    • @carlospagi
      @carlospagi 6 лет назад +3

      Regulations. When you retire all race numbers must be removed. It was illegal at the time to display racing numbers on a motor vehicle on the public highway unless competing and often on the way to and from an event a strip of black electrical tape was placed over the number to nullify it.Hope this helps.

    im telling you Brooks has bad luck.... his true talent was never really unleashed... his cars allways break, more broke cars than finished rallys...Brooks in an S1 Quatro or Lancia would have been amazing..lol
