westbrabantrally (netherlands). About 20 years ago .don`t know the exact year. Professional photographer stood at the outside of a corner, got hit when the car went out of control. From where we were standing we could not see they hit the guy. Was fun to see at first until the driver and co pilot and got out of their car and both started running towards the photographer. The panic was visible from a mile away and everybody in the crowd realised at that point something really bad had happened. The photographer survived with a broken hip.
Your narration is truly awful and beyond annoying. We can see what’s going on, you don’t have to describe every second. I couldn’t take it anymore after barely a minute. Next time, do us all a favor and just shut the F up.
Petter Solberg & Phil Mills did not go into the ditch at Rallye Germany 2004 - they hit a Concrete Barrier designed to keep 65 ton tanks on the road - a Hinkelstein.
5:31 Unfortunately placed hay bail? Are you kidding? If you had a bullet proof vest on and it stopped a bullet, would you criticise your vest for being "unfortunately placed" because you broke a rib? If you actually knew your rallying history better, you would know that cars going head on or sideways into trees is almost always Tree 1, Car and Driver Nil. Peter Brock, for example, lost his life at Targa Tasmania when he went into a tree. If there had been one of those "unfortunately placed" hay bails in front of that tree, Brock would still be with us today. Bottom line - that hay bail did precisely the job it was put there for. To absorb energy and disperse it. Molly can thank the person who had enough foresight and experience to put it there in the first place.
cant agree more, look at craig breen last year, not seen footage and i dont want but i believe it was sideways into a tree, this bloke is an idiot and uneducated in rallying i think
Actually it was Targa West Rally around Perth that Brocky was killed on. Always remember it because I was the Emergency Services Manager on the event and suffice to say it was a really bad day.
Who is this commentator? He does love superlatives doesn't he? Outrageous, ridiculous, incredible, unbelievable. He asks what we think, we think he should SHUT UP! Every event seems to be THE MOST SPECTACULAR! And somehow they escaped uninjured, that's how the cars are designed, to protect the occupants.
thats right, but it was still a bit to far on the street. in the video it looks like she would have missed the tree, if the hay bale was not there. they should place it more in front of the tree, it was kinda in a bad spot intefering with the track.
It’s amazing the difference between F1 and Rally track safety. The safe areas in Rallying are in side the taped area, the VERY DANGEROUS bits are outside the taped area, so easy 👍👍👍👍👍
@@ChaOzTheory If memory serves, Solberg's crash occurred on a military base (parts of that rally went through them) and hit a Hinkelstein - an anti tank barrier - so hard it shifted. That is what caused the incredible spin roll and destruction of the car. It wasn't a country road and wasn't a ditch.
Yeah, BUT. Car No 15 in the 1986 Welsh Rally was Simon Davidson, yes in a Nissan 240RS....except he finished 6th, so it wasn't him at the bottom of the mountain! So if this was a Nissan (as the footage seems to be) and car No 15, it wasn't on the 1986 Welsh Rally!
You keep saying that bits of the scenery were badly or unfortunately placed. They were there first and were not to blame. The drivers were simply going too fast for the conditions.
There was a lot of worse accidents than we have seen here, for example these ones here. 1 - 2011 Ronde di Andora, Robert Kubica 2 - 1986 Tour de Corse, Henri Toivonen & Sergio Cresto 3 - 1986 Rally Portugal, Joaquim Santos, crashed into a crowd of people 4 - 2023 Rally Serras de Fafe, Armindo Araujo 5 - 2003(?) Rally Argentina, Markko Martin 6 - 2009 Rally Portugal, JM Latvala 7 - 2021 Sliven Rally, Ugur Soylu 8 - 2012 Rallye de France-Alsace, Nasser Al-Attiyah
And these aren't the worst rally crashes ever. I've been fortunate enough never to witness anything worse than a minor "off". But the worst rally crashes that spring to my mind are all from the 1980s. Ari Vatenan in Argentina. Henri Toivenen in Corsa. And the accident in Portugal in 1986, when a car (the driver of which I cannot recall) went off into a crowd of spectators.
The cadence of the narration makes this video unwatchable. What is it about the makers of list videos that they think the tone of EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE rising and falling in exactly the same way is a good idea? It’s awful to listen to. Stop it.
9:01 Nissan RS driven by Jason Humble. Happened on the 1st stage. When he climbed to to the top he was asking if anyone had a spare car he could borrow.
Petter Solbergs crash in Germany 2004 was caused by going wide and hitting the hinklesteins which keep tanks on the road. They caused the initial damage. Lucky to be alive both Petter and Phil.😊
That mishap on the Canary Isles Rally into the armco showed what the barrier can do. The barrier did *exactly what it was designed to do* - it dissipated energy by breaking its supports while keeping the car at least mostly on the road.
Glad you didnt use any lethal crashes here. But you did infact misplace a couple of your top 20s id say. Ken Block for one had a huge crash with his Ford Escort Rs in 2018. It was totaled with one impact and went up into flames almost instantly. Ken and his codriver came out okay but the car which was his favorite was nothing but a bent frame after.
Items permanently in place aren’t badly placed they are there already and thus the driver failed to miss the totally innocent obstacle. It’s like saying “the tree stepped into the road and hit the car!”
Petter Solberg's crash was not caused by running into a ditch. The German countryside is littered with hinkle stones (AKA Dragon's Teeth or bollards), large stones of reinforced concrete lined up along roadway edges to deter military tanks from crossing open fields, damaging private property or farmland. He struck the first stone, causing tremendous damage to the front of the car (and breaking the windshield) then the momentum of the car caused it to flip over and bounce along the stones, smashing the roll cage in above Phill Mills' head. The car was a total write-off, and from the video you can see why.
They have invented drones that are able to keep up and even outrun F1 cars for the purpose of filming them.. I can't wait until they start using them in sports like Rally racing. These things have a blistering speed while recording top notch video, they go from 0-60 in like a half second, they're insane.
This shows the importance of a PROPER roll cage in a car. If any of those cars had a cage with poor welds in it the driver and navigator would not have survived. If you go racing don't have your buddy build the cage for you unless they are a certified welder.
The more spectacular rollover crashes cause less harm to the occupants as the stored kinetic energy is dissipated over a longer time frame. It's sudden stops (deceleration) which are more likely to result in worse outcomes. That's why most motor sport governing bodies have mandated the use of the Hans device. Ask Kenny Bräck.
I reamber watching the worst one the reason the car got so damaged was there was anti tank concrete blocks al down the side of the road left over from the war and the Subaru roll over the top of them the car just folded up
Idk how but I had a dream of Travis pastranas wreck in this video but at the time of the dream I hadn’t seen that wreck but it was the same car and wreck in the dream I find it really odd
