    Had a bunch of 8" schedule 40 rollouts come into the shop and I was trying to figure a way out to knock them out as quick as possible. Tried this technique and it worked amazingly. My heat preferences are a bit different but it got the job done all the same. I found 180-190 on my hot pass/fill was as high as I could go without the puddle becoming volatile and sloppy.

      youll get there - just pay attention to the weld pool. make sure the shape of it remains as close to a circle as possible- move the drop of water and try to make the outside edge remain a circle. That's it. 2G to 6G, sparks flying down your neck, fire everywhere, keep it a circle. Out in the field in a ditch in 2 feet of muddy water and cold, 6G, slight sense of electrocution in your arm--- KEEP IT A CIRCLE

      Yes its mainly for rollout. We do the same thing at the shop i work for, but if we have to do an in position weld, I’ll open the root up like you normally would. You can still hot and flush it at the same time like he shows though, you just have to be way more careful about getting suck back on the bottom of the pipe.

    • @porterporter5506
      @porterporter5506 2 года назад +2

      He would need leather sleeves for that heat vs speed. Not to mention the suck-back on the root, fisheye in the arc break from bad tech, or arch marks from lack of experience and knowledge. Good for a shop welder, not a feild guy

Practice with smaller filler rod and then push for fast welds that will pass
