Rumor has it if you touch DS hat you later become one. How many of you guys touched the DS in basic training? I had one of my DS trick me by saying "Think fast Private!" and tossed their DS hat at me like a frisbee. I caught it because I didn't want it to touch the ground outside. Everyone including the DS hoot and hollered at me. DS told me, "You'll wear this hat one day. It's both a curse and a blessing."
This brought back a scary memory, the moment I arrived to my company in Basic, the drill sergeant that was the on the bus with us was quiet and cool as a cucumber, and then like the flip of a switch he started screaming with a blood shot red face.
This is legit the cutest thing I have ever seen drill sergeants do. Every single one of y'all have the greatest amount of respect from me possible. Climb to Glory!
One of my highlights of basic is night one after our initial shark attack, a drill sergeant cut my padlock and threw my locker across the bay, then yelled at me about why I didn’t lock my lock, but then gave me a new lock after cutting the one we got at reception. I have never been so confused and scared than that first night.
I was fortunate enough to create a friendship with one of my drills years after basic. I am now almost 55 and he's about 15 yrs older than that. One of the most significant mentors across my lifetime. But damn he could hide his 6ft frame in the shadow of a pencil and scare the hell out of me. Stay Alert! Stay Alive!!!!Thanks DrillSarnt
