This is the fastest speedrun category for the original PlayStation. It's any%, means it supports any means, strats, glitches, skips and techniques in the game to complete it as fast as possible. This speedrun mainly uses Cait Sith's 2nd Limit Break "Slots" which has the ability to win every boss fight immediately. It skips big chunks of the start of CD1 in Midgar, Kalm, Cosmo Canyon and the end of CD2. Until Cait Sith is recruited the route is very similar to the "No Slots" speedrun but then it changes to focus entirely on the usage of "Slots".
This will be, probably for a long time, my last run for this category. I said it multiple times but I do not very enjoy this run. The focus on slots entirely feels boring, all the fights are the same, there is not much preparation needed for anything and it just feels like a lot of cutscenes with some instantly-won-fights in between. I couldn't get myself to practice anything for this category aside the Slots timing so especially menus look pretty sloppy. The more I am happy and also a bit susprised that I was able to beat the past World Record by over 2 minutes. I estimate this run to still be able to save a few more minutes ideally but I am not ready to grind it out at this point. Maybe sometime in the future.
The run overall was pretty decent. I haven't failed any Slots or done any other big mistakes. RNG was overall decent and no huge problems occured either. Timesave in the future would mainly come from playing smoother, faster menus and I also see some potential route improvements. There is still the hybrid-route idea around where you'd use Tifa in combination with Slots for the endgame. This would need quiet a bit more prep in CD2, picking up Curse Ring, some longer menus, etc but would save some considerable time in some fights like Hojo and the last boss rush. Properly routed and executed this could be faster. Anyway, good run with the classic route here but I am happy to be able to do something else now
