Think about the swatting and death threats political figures are receiving now. Then think about what this American hero had to put up with. There had to be too many to number. Then, like now, the racist right is afraid of a future America where they do not have a monopoly on who is successful and who lives in poverty. It is my hope that people in the middle remember the future Dr. King dreamt of has children of all colors playing together. I see this as not only kids playing together, but adults of all colors working together as well.

DYK, in 1976, USA was tied with a Capitalist Democracy in the GINI index of wealth disparity. It's ticker symbol for their index fund is EDEN. EDEN ranked #1 on the Happiness Index, #1 on the Democracy Index, and top 5 on The Press Freedom Index. America reached parity with EDEN, aka Denmark, 200 years after it was created. Then reagan's arm for hostages treason in 1980 election put him in the WH and trickle down shrunk the middle class from 65% to 42%. At 65% America had reached EDEN's happiness.

I was a child in the 1950s growing up white in the deep south and I remember seeing the rampant racism, the dual water fountains, black people relegated to the back of the bus only, signs in business windows prohibiting black patrons from entering. Even as a child, I recognized the injustice and saw the distain white folks had for their fellow citizens of color, the unwarranted privilege they took at believing their discrimination was just fine and in order. I saw it all the way through my young adult years as well when even after the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts were past. The resentment that they had in having to accept black people into the public sphere of society. That hasn't gone away for a whole lot of white people. Those former Dixiecrats are now maga republicans. I see it in former friends and in neighbors. They really believe that with Defendant 45, they can recapture what they had back in the 1950s. That's what makes them worth despising IMO.

Martin 'stood' for non-violence & he paid for it, quite regrettably, with his life's blood - along with Bobby & John and others. We are still lacking justice and enforcement tasks, thru our laws, in this quest. Quite simply, America has not yet embraced a spirit of tolerance and certainly, refused to embrace the vestiges of 'peace'. Around the world, we see more of the same.

An ENORMOUS sadness fills everyone who was there to witness the days and hard-fought changes occurring, out of the 1960s. We who stood up for human development and betterment look back on all of it, smitten still by the terrible losses, but also by the apparent loss of prosperity, leading to improvements in the human condition. Education MUST lead to JOBS/WORK ! Jobs and work MUST lead to prosperity - the ability to afford to care for one's family and self, without suffering. Martin knew the job - he knew the risks too - but he had faith in the word 'PROGRESS'. Look at the world of today. See if it appears that we have made progress, since the ''60s. America needs a re-imagined government & a re-formulated commitment by everyone; to prosperity for all, and the WORK we expect all Americans to expend for the public good.

I ve heard that MLK speech before, but listening to this start off video, I ve seen it for its perfection, I ve never seen it in that way before, 40 seconds, perfect, there is nothing either missing, nor to add, wow! You are talking like , help me out here, a Moses, predicting a Jesus Christ will arrive. UNBELIEVABLE power, authenticity...

PBS published a very interesting article in 2022 about how basically unreliable the poll results often are. For one, most calls go to landlines. Which wipes out anyone under fifty these days. The second point is that people came right out and said that they refused to participate.

IIRC, Lincoln tried to negotiate so that the Civil War wouldn’t have happened (including offering to buy and free all of the slaves in the Confederacy), but the Confederate politicians refused.

Maybe this program needs to be more proactive about what we lose and what we gain instead of personalities. Make a shout out to the future, being positive, leading in thought. Just too much news all about Trump, we do not need this, we need inspiration and vision, not more Trump.

I’m sure there are other civil rights leaders who America could allow us to worship. Because Martin Luther King Junior would be 95 years old this year. I’m pretty sure someone else can come next besides this man. It feels like Amerikkka said “ok you can have MLK and that’s all. You got your holiday. This will be the first and last time we allow you to idolize a black civil rights leader.

What an amazing person (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.). I hope to keep working towards seeing my fellow people as the same, and not by any type of color. What really made such an impact on me as a young man many years ago was learning about and becoming educated about the civil rights movement of the 1960’s and Martin Luther King Jr being a profound leader within that movement as a whole. Thank You Dr. King for making the world a better place, even though we have work to continue, we can use the teachings by MLK to continue to move us forward collectively as a nation.
