I personally feel like there are a lot of underrated brands in golf, and Srixon is one of them. Taylor made, call away and titleist get a lot of the praise when there are other great brands that make high quality stuff too. Glad to see brooks sign with srixon
100%. i would love to see what would happen if everyone who got fitted for a club did a blind test. If you took looks and brand bias out of the equation what would people buy.

@@OHgreensguy yes. Not that it would or could ever happen but it would be cool to know for example what's the best selling driver if everyone did a blind fitting. Your buying a club based on performance and feel. Not brand recognition and astetics.
Mizuno is another brand that is seriously underrated . Irons are awesome
@@jamesroboyle Maybe among high handicappers. Mizuno has been very highly regarded by pros & low handicappers for decades. Tiger used Mizuno irons as an amateur & early in his pro career, including the 1997 Masters. When I was in high school in the late 90s, about half of our golf team played Mizuno irons.
Brooks Koepka is pure talent guys, when this guy has no injuries he will be are to beat. The guy hits the ball a mile, good iron player, the short game is pretty decent, but his putting is just awesome, one of the best putter on tour. And when it comes to a major championship never bet against Brooks. I have always been a big Tiger fan, but the minute I saw Brooks on the European tour, I knew that kid was going to be one he'll of a player one day. And also Srixon makes good golf clubs, try them.

This past year I tried various balls. I had used ProV1, TP5, and Chrome Soft, but wanted to check less expensive balls. I tried various Bridgestones, Snells, and Srixon. I settled on the Srixon Q-Star Tour. Very nice results and not quite as expensive.
Q stars are perfect Christmas gifts. I can play ProV1’s but I feel guilty asking friends or family to drop 50 bucks on 12 balls. Instead I tell them Srixon Q stars are good balls to gift
their z star ball is just as good as prov1, tp5, and chromesoft in performance and technology

This Brand is was once Cleveland which has been a major factor in how all the other brands have followed the footprint for making quality products.
Been playing Z-Stars and sometimes Q-Stars for a year now.

I personally love and use the Bridgestone Tour BXS and can’t wait for the 2022 release. Feels great off all 14 clubs and spin is great.
Surprised you mentioned Graeme mcdowell over hideki.... I see it as this on a business view from Srixon. Brooks is the lead of North America , Shane all of Europe, and Hideki all of Asia. So some of the top players in the world spanning 3 continents. That’s a very smart move for both brooks and srixon saying hey you are the number 1.

I've never bought something a tour pro will advertise. I have and always will buy equipment that I think will help me.
I was once golfing behind a slow group and had a few minutes to look in a little forest of trees for some golf balls (not for mine) I found two Bridgestone balls. I grabbed them and put them in the bag. Ironically they were inches from each other, I laugh thinking it was the same guy hitting both balls poorly. My next round of golf of took out one and played it for 16 straight holes. I lost it on 17 and played the other the last two. It was probably my best round of 18 holes. They feel really good. I ended buying around 60 used balls from a buddy who lives right next to the course and gets them in his yard and fields closeby. They are about all I golf with now.
I am actually loving the Q Star Tour ball, does well off the tee, good feel with irons and wedges, decent spin around the green and soft off the putter.....what else do you need?
More durable cover than Q Star. I'll try the Q Star Tour version but use Taylormade Tour Response which holds up better than Q Star does.

I’ve played all kinds of balls, Srixons and Bridgetones, for the money and performance you can’t go wrong.
Brooks Koepka could play well with a set of 1973 rusted out Hogan Apex blades, persimmon PowerBilt woods made out of real wood with steel shafts, and a wound MacGregor ball with a balata cover.
American here, specifically in the South West. I mostly see Titleist, Taylormade and Callaway purchased when people are buying "premium" balls. Those also tend to be the ones that have the best displays in stores (predominant placement, size, etc). Srixon is probably the next player and the only reason I didn't mention them with the others is when purchased it's usually their novelty balls (marvel branded, etc) or their mid-lower tier in bright colorways. Side note is Vice is creeping up, and they can now be purchased at Target stores. I see Bridgestone in shops, but I don't see it much and it's space in stores is usually not a premium display.
Part of what attracted Brooks Koepka to Srixon and sealed the deal for him is the new Srixon Z Star Diamond golf ball, which is basically a more spinnier version of the XV.
That said, Srixon drivers and irons remain vastly underrated and are among the very best quality clubs available on the market today, but are also far more reasonably priced in comparison with the big name brands.
The cost benefit for the performance level experienced is truly exceptional.
Cleveland wedges are also legendary and are easily up there with, or better than, any other wedge club out there today.
Players like Hideki Matsuyama and Shane Lowry have repeatedly proven how good the quality performance level of Srixon Cleveland gear is, while JJ Spaun just won the Valero Texas Open last weekend.
Except for my putter, every club in my bag is Srixon Cleveland, and I also play the regular Srixon Z Star tour ball.
You saw a LOT of free agents using Titleist Drivers as well....
You have to remember that Bridgestone made the Nike tour end balls; from the original Tour Accuracy TW and DD balls, all the way up to the last releases. The only difference on the consumer side was that Bridgestone was $3-$4.00 less on the shelf per dozen. Nike is not a sporting goods company, they are a marketing company that happens to market sporting goods , they make nothing that they sell!
I play zx7 irons, my yardage are far better since and accuracy had improved, best irons I've gamed ever, and my wilson d9 hybrid is something else, another underrated club
Bridgestone is a tire company. They're just not seen as a Golf brand by the general public. They would be a bigger player if they teamed up with, or bought out, a company like Cobra and marketed their balls with that Brand Name...
They made all the golf balls for Nike .
I've played Bridgestone BXS golf balls since I saw your review of it last year and they're awesome.

I remember when g-mac signed for srixon/Cleveland, their sales rep told us that they could afford anyone in the world except Tiger Woods.

Of all the great brands you mentioned, Srixon are way up there. The sheep will just follow the mainstream marketing.
Surely if money wasn't an option then Muira would be the best irons for tour players to use.
Remember that the idea of pros using a full set of one particular brand is a recent development. I heard Nick Faldo say that at one point in the prime of his career, every single club in his bag was from different brands or sets.
In the U.S. I mostly see Titleist and Callaway balls, Bridgestone probably after that. The e6's are popular for their price point and performance for slow-mid swing speeds. Once balls reach a closer price point to Pro V1/V1x's, why wouldn't they use what's considered one of, if not the best balls in the game. Barring a fitting that says otherwise.
I spend a lot on gear. I even paid to have custom fitted clubs from Pete's Golf in Long Island NY. I could not care less anymore about what the Pros use. I care more about what Rick Shiels says is good, and is worth trying.
I live close by, and never stepped foot in Pete’s. I was going to get fitted, would you recommend?
Money money money, a smart move from Srixon! Not really sure why there has been so much noise about this, Srixon make good quality products!
I love playing the Tour BX ball. In the States, Bridgestone balls are likely the 4th most common ball I see on the course behind Titleist, TM, and Callaway (in that order)... I also never see anyone playing a Srixon or Mizuno ball
In So. Cal. it's Titleist, Callaway, Kirkland, TaylorMade. Toss up between Bridgestone & Srixon. That's for all models not just the top tier balls from each. Pro V1 is the most popular model.

Srixons are the most under rated balls in golf. Perfect for my swing speed of around 108. XV silver box. Long. But if you like pro V softness then you won’t like the srixons.

Z star is my favorite for my 98 swing speed and feels very soft
Agree but I find that the very outer coating tends to flake very easy. Even after just a few shots.

Lexi Thompson also plays the Bridgestone ball along with other LPGA players . I play the Bridgestone BXS but have been experimenting with the BX as it has a little less spin great ball.

Bridgestone balls are the best bang for your buck in the States. Titlelist will always be #1, but 2&3 are always up for grabs.
I actually really like Bridgestone ball and was using it before Tiger even went too the ball. Too me I like the green side spin it puts and the feel off the putter. holds I. The wind better imo…

does anybody remember how Tom Lehman set up his bag? he would have like a cobra 9 iron, titleist 8 iron, taylormade 7 iron....it was wild. i think there is a video of a witb where he talks about it
I like them getting BK, they needed a somebody to be the face and he fits perfectly. Hope this brings more people to their brand
I would say Bridgestone is popular here in the states but a tp5 or a pro v1 is still much more common

I use Bridgestone golf balls because in Thailand the Pro-v's are way too expensive.

Srixon, Cleveland and XXIO are all brands under the Dunlop umbrella. They also own at least a part of the ASICS company.

Im not good enough to feel the difference in striking but i do feel so confident over a pro v1 i do have a sleeve of vice pro plus, vice pro and callaway chrome soft which i havent used
At the Sony Open, Titleist again won the count in every single category, Driver, fw, hybrid, u irons, wedges and ball. They also did that a number of times last year. Top to bottom, the best clubs out there. They also refuse to pay the huge money that, Callaway and TM does
If I could sign for any brand it would be Honma. I've been hitting them at work and man I they feel so good, 2nd pick Miura, currently play zx7s and love them, but man the Honmas are something else.
It’s also because the big manufacturers will put the athlete in every social media post, every television advert, every magazine, and in every golf shop in the world. This raises the athletes profile and he/she is able to get more sponsorship and endorsement money in general. This again raises their profile and so on. So a 3 million a year sponsorship deal with TM is worth 6 million a year in reality.
I think it was an easy choice for Brooks. I mean really just had to change driver and get a huge pay check and be ‘The Guy’ in North America. Seems like a win win steal for Brooks.

Bridgestone is definitely popular in the US. Not as popular as pro v1 (obviously) or tp5 but I see more guys using bridgestone than chromesoft. And especially the e6 and e12 with the older guys.
A lot of the Nike pros were playing Ping blueprint irons too

Cus the zx7 irons are the best irons ever released espeacially for us bulkier guys that no matter what come a little over the top, the vsole counter acts the motion even a boomerang slice becomes a manageable fade , the zx fairway woods stop on a dime on the greens aswell plus the cleveland wedges rtx zipcores are best wedges around right now
Its pretty obvious, the second tier suppliers only marketing strategy is to get a 'name' in the line up, Srixon paid a HUGE bag of loot to Brooks. And, it was the kinda loot a guy could not refuse; done deal. I mean, its north of 10mill with incentives.
Bridgestone and Taylormade balls are the best that I have used. Though, I have used those the most consistently, and when I've switched I have lost controllability and accuracy. Is it mental or the equipments fault? I'd bet mental lol. Golf is hard.
Switched from ProV1 to TP5. I played both over several rounds, sometimes I took 2 shots on a hole to keep conditions the same and found no real difference in spin rates or distance. Nothing appreciable. I'm about a 9 handicap.
I'm now testing the TP5 against Snell.
before watching the video, I'm assuming a big box of money was involved.
Go back a few years(decades) and it was MacGregor, Wilson, Spalding, Hogan or even Confidence.
Ram was in it. Lynx. Of course Ping. Powerbuilt. Dunlop/Maxfli, Slazenger..it goes on and on. Outside of Ping most of those brands have vanished from tour exposure or completely. I cant imagine the make or break competitiveness in this industry!
There was a poll a few years ago among the top 150 pga players. They were asked if they didn’t receive sponsorship money, which irons would they play with on tour. I believe the outcome was nearly 90 percent would select mizuno.
That's interesting because in the football (soccer) world a lot of players who don't have a boot sponsorship go with Mizuno. And they are usually rated super high by all the RUclips football boots guys. Mizuno just turns out quality stuff without providing a lot of sponsorships

The big question is how much do you think balls and clubs would cost if they didn’t pay the pros millions to use them. Balls especially are dirt cheap to make!
they would cost pretty much the exact same, you need a ball to play golf and thats what people are willing to pay for them. The price might come down $5 a box but more likely they would go on sale a couple times a year to create urgency. If no one was paying pros they would be on the same level of awareness they are now, but when one of them dose it they all have to do it. They only pay pros to keep up with each other in terms of hooking new golfers, it's just another form of marketing but its more cost effective because you are targeting only golfers anyways.
Answer to the title: the money was good.
As they'll anyway build a custom set, he'll get the clubs he likes.

Bridgestone balls are big in America. Pro V1 is still king but I have a lot of friends who use E12 soft or tour rbx balls who changes from ProV. I’d rank Bridgestone a firm second and callaway third for usage near me.
Brooks is a fringe dweller and likes to be different. He likes the no buckshot attitude. Srixon has always been an honest product. A good match for mine.

Rick, I think you’ve got to test Bridgestone v Titleist Pro V1.
To touch on the end of this video, Bridgestone golf balls are great but they will never be in the same regard as pro v1’s. Also the tp5 has taken America by storm in the past couple of years.
Most people, specially all the big names, started with Titleist: Tiger, Rory, Phil, etc. If you look at the changes, almost all players had difficulty adjusting to their new clubs.
I'm sure Kuchar uses Bridgestone balls too. Might be wrong though 🤔

Bridgestone is a great ball. but its a tire company for most folks in their mind. I love golf so I am aware of them. I think for the average "Joe" Titleist just has a huge head start in the Golf only association over Bridgestone. I do think that'll change but probably a few years off.
When I hear Bridgestone I think tires but I refuse to use Titleist. Not sure why exactly but I'd rather support another company.
Bridgestone equipment never gets a fair shake either! It's just as good as the rest of the competitors. Their irons are pretty slick!

Taylor Made is the king of Drivers in my opinion, but as far as Irons and wedges and even their new golf balls, I would put Srixon up against anything. Brooks could of picked anything and played anything, and he chose them for a reason on top of other things you mentioned.
Srixon is made from Japanese steel. Same brand as superstar Matsuyama used...

Is brook's deal a full 14 club bag or 12 club so he can choose his own putter and keep the nike iron which he always goes back to every time he tried a 5-7 wood/driving iron from others. Wilson went along with giving players 8-12 club deals and is big on the ladies tour
Kutcher has been big bridgestone guy for a long time and a number of japanese players on mens and ladies use it. They also do clubs in other markets as the UK is saturated with loads if multi national and independant brands.
Mizuno do sign amateurs mate, they signed some of your youtube competitors 😂

Srixon makes sense since he chose the irons on his own. They are awesome, I have them in the bag as well. The Driver is very good, but the shaft he used in the Match didn't seem like it fit him. Very wayward. He's a decent iron play not that great. Ok wedge player. Good short game, and good putter. His Iron proximity are his main weakness and occasionally his Driving. Srixon is a very underrated manufacturer. The balls are excellent as well.
Srixon has Cleveland under their umbrella; Cleveland STILL makes a great wedge, also, the Zstar is a FANTASTIC ball
So many guys I play with play bridgestone including me.
Bridgestone is pretty big here I'd say top 3. Titleist Callaway Bridgestone in that order.
