You guys should definitely do more how-to videos. I know there are people newer into vw’s that could use guidance on stuff like this. Great job on this one! Can’t wait for next weeks video!
So, what i need to install a new carpet kit in my bug: 1-TMI carpet kit 2-two cans of a good adhesive 3- sharp exacto knife 4- Martin (the bearded wonder) and Gary. Got it!
An alternative to using spray adhesive is industrial strength Velcro...that way you can reposition the carpet during installation and remove it if you ever need to get to the structure underneath it. That's how I installed my TMI kit a few years back and it's holding up great (pun intended)
I really appreciate this tutorial . Very well done. I'm sure this will help many VW'ers (including myself). Tips and tricks from experience are always helpful. Thanks guys it looks so much nicer with carpet. Keep it up.
The e brake boot goes under the carpet. Lol. In 25 years I’ve never glued the main carpet down completely because if someone wants to run speakers or the main brake line goes bad or the e brake boot goes bad, or you decide later you want to put in a new harness. You’ll have to pull the carpet back up and sometimes the glue won’t let loose and it will ruin the carpet and you’ll have to buy another kit. I’ve seen some carpet kits were the shifter bolts will be under the carpet so you have to pull the carpet up and over to get to the bolts. Im surprised you didn’t put more padding on the floor.
Thank you all, very much, this is one of the best, down to earth, easy to follow, clearly described , DIY videos on doing the interior of an old school beetle that I have seen in a LOOOOOOOOONG time. Clear, easy, you didn't make it sound like one needed an Astrophysicist degree to be able to do,, just got in and did it!! Great stuff !!, This will be one of those I will return to when I start doing my 72.
Such a good job, guys! Yes, you obviously need good tools, patience - and a handful of good friends next to you. Laughed out loud about F.L.A.P.S - i'll keep that in mind! 😊😉👍
I'm starting a body off resto to my 65 bug. I found this video so helpful because you guys do detail stuff and and don't make it look Soo intimidating. My only problem is you guys are a " crew " working together in your videos which makes it much easier. Living in Western NC the hobby isn't as popular so harder to get the help. Anyway, you guys are so motivating to us DYI VW guys out here. I will watch your video many times and then go for it. Isn't being a VW guy a weird thing? Once you get bitten, your into it for life. It's a CULT. But a peaceful one. Carry on men.
The Dynamat is for sound deadening like damping a drum head. The padding is for sound insulation. Two different functions. Much much quieter with both installed.
@@VWLifeVW I just realized the autocorrect in there… dynamat. But yeah, it keeps the metal from “ringing” like a bell. So it does deaden the sound. But it doesn’t block sound waves that pass through, that’s what the insulation does which is why VW had it thick in the back. It insulates the interior from the engine noise. Now if you want to hear that it’s great to leave off. I drive my Beetle 60 miles at a time and have audiobooks on so I have the insulation. 😆
Thank you so much for this informative vid VW Life!! I'm about to do the carpet kit in my '59 euro Bug here shortly, and I wasn't sure what order to install in. Now I've got a better idea of where to start, and what to look out for in the process. Cheers from Maine!
Thank you for showing and explaining how to install new carpet. I am not at that stage as of yet. The more I watch all of you it gives me hope I can do this for my little baby car and get her on the road again. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ love this channel.
@@VWLifeVW I was wondering if you could help me. My Beetle is a '69, and it has a lever by your knee to operate the air ducts. How is the carpet supposed to go around that?
Thanks for the video, do you have one for the headliner? Looks like that needs to go in first before the carpet, I have a 1963 Beetle. Again thank you guy’s for the awesome video.
Nice job, dry fitting makes it turn out great. Was a little surprised that there wasn't a break for lunch. Sometimes it's hard to do something new, but don't be a "frayed."
If you're doing this alone get yourself some of those small, super strong neodymium magnets to hold the carpet piece in place, flip one half of the piece over, spray it with adhesive and press it in place. Then you can flip the other half over and spray and press that half too.
Good job! I am torn between original 1/2 carpet kit with the rubber floors or all carpet like yours. It seems salt and pepper square weave was stock on my '64 pearl white L-87. I noticed you have all red fuses. Shouldn't they be 7 white, 1 red on the far right? Cheers from West Texas!
Can the carpet be made to still fit snugly when people also want cushy padding on the floor, sound deadening material and/or insulation for hot or cold climates in their beetles?
Just love watching your videos. What happened to the orange menace? Haven't herd it mentioned in awhile? Thought I had watched all your videos maybe I missed one will have to go back and look !! Orange is my favorite color on a bug.
I have a ‘57 beetle and trying to have some make the pins, my seat didn’t have springs or pins. Are there 1 or 2 pins for the knobs? If it’s 1, which hole does it go in, top or bottom? (Say the hole for the seat bar is on the left) I can send a picture.
It’s amazing how a car of worst design could succeed so well. All the cars of today have every thing in the front and liquid cooled engines. Altho freezing cold in the winter the beetle in Montreal winter got thru the snow. most popular small car due to weight on back driven wheels. I know I had a 1958.
Nice job guys! I need to carpet my 67. It would help with noise reduction. But have you seen the prices for German square weave?? $$$ 😳 TMI has good stuff!
Yea we put Square weave in the Raffle Beetle.. it was pretty pricey! check out WolfsBurg West for their products too.. tell them the VW HARVEST/VW LIFE crew sent you.. :)
That carpet sure did change the look of the interior... I bet it even smelled better inside. Makes me wanta just kick off my shoes, get barefoot and scrunch my toes down in it. You gotta enjoy a Beetle with all your senses, y'know? (Except maybe, gnawing on the steering wheel to get the taste).
The dyna matting you referred to, is that the silver insulation looking stuff that says rattle trap already installed? VW newby here. What is that crank object next to the shifter you had to cut the front carpet for?
Yes, Rattle Trap is another brand of sound deadening like Dyna-Mat. The knob to the right of the shifter is the heater knob, twist it and it pulls open the heat exchanger flaps, and magically, heat!
The TMI people make good stuff. Great idea on using a lighter on the edges or when cutting holes to prevent the fibers from coming apart. Getting that emergency brake rubber cover on and inside that hole in the carpet in that area is a real b$tch...🤣😂
What’s sad is that many of these kits are not cut properly so they don’t fit right. It’s hard to find a less expensive quality kit. Many don’t even have the heater openings. Also, the wound binding edge ends up coming apart. Do your research before buying. If you can afford the crazy priced German square weave, buy it!
You guys should definitely do more how-to videos. I know there are people newer into vw’s that could use guidance on stuff like this. Great job on this one! Can’t wait for next weeks video!
You guys should grab a gimble for recording. It'd take out the shakey-unlevel stuff. Not being a gripe. I love the content. Keep doing what you do!
I've got decent carpet in mine.. but this makes me want to tear it out and put in new, that looks SOOOO good!
Kool stuff - WHERE IS MATT JACKSON! ?? Any flashbacks from the fumes? 🤪🤣😎✌️
So, what i need to install a new carpet kit in my bug: 1-TMI carpet kit 2-two cans of a good adhesive 3- sharp exacto knife 4- Martin (the bearded wonder) and Gary. Got it!
Exactly -- HAHA!
Yes! These guys must be made in HEAVEN then!

wow that's interesting!
Sequencing is critical to this process. Gary is so organized. Good job guys!
thanks

Yes, dynamat does not need to be on every square inch of a panel. Which is good. Because it's expensive and tedious to try and do that.

Glad to hear thanks,
Same process for a Kenworth truck cab , hated breathing glue all day , nice work, I’m seeing a future business opportunity for vw life
Thanks 👍 maybe we need a Kenworth :)
Great job fellas! The Wolfsburg factory could have used you guys back in the day!
Amazing how the carpet changes the look of inside the car right away !!!
yeah , it's a nice change
adhesive duct insulation is a good and cheaper alternative to dynamat as well.
Awesome!!!!!! Getting ready to one in my 70's!!!!! Great video guys, thanks!!!!
Glad to hear! Post a picture of it on our Facebook page! facebook.com/VWLifeVW/
You guys really made this look easy to do.
This is going to help me a lot in about two months.. I'm not doing a roadstoration (sorry 😐). I'm doing a full restoration .. thanks guys !! ❤️
Awesome! I'm painting the floor in my '69 1300 and I've got the TMI kit ready for install, so this helped me a lot. Thanks guys - great video

Great video guys this has me locate where the seatbelt mounting hole on the tunnel when I install them

Looks Freakin Awesome!
Great tips! Thanks, guys!
Is the technical term of "moosh down" written in the instructions?
Lol yes it's in the Bentley manual
4th comment. About to do carpet myself!
What.s the name of silicon you are using for carpet..?

it got sold and went to corpus christi or san antonio, then it got sold again and went to N. Carolina, we think.
6600th view, 600th like :) Love you guys!
How high were you guys after spraying all that adhesive in an enclosed area?
Everywhere we applied the carpet

Yes it's pretty remarkable
Did you guys use glue onto the footrest? Or just rested the carpet on top of the footrest? Thanks
Yes, glue
Nice job look brilliant
So headliner first, or carpet? Cause I have both arriving soon!
Why didn't the ebrake cover get tucked in the carpet?

What do you use to take the old glue off? Did I miss that info?
Acetone is a great solvent to remove glue

Try Wolfsburg west

@@RRmeanmachine Thank you.
I'm unsure about fitting a carpet. Main reason being I don't like the idea of glueing it in place as you then can't see if any rust develops behind.
The only thing harder to install by yourself is the headliner. lol Don't ask me how I know that ! lol
Let's do seats next
How long do you have to wait for the glue to set?
Not long, if it's cold you'd want to wait a few minutes
I wanna see more of the installers tats
Idk where I went wrong. I cut it 2 times and it's still short ☺
Wow, no views? I've never been this early!
Cuanto usd USA?
Why didn't you put the e brake boot under the carpet?
We are amatures!
From where did you buy the carpetkit ?
Heritage part center use discount code VWLIFE
Where do I buy parts for my 63 beetle??
we have a few suggestions :) we should be getting you guys a discount code here soon if you can hold off on ordering for a second :)
