I realy like the idea of quad turbo in this diesel engine..small turbos to pick up then big turbo to spool till 3000rpm then the bigger turbo will take from their..but cant they just make a normal big turbo diesel car and put a supercharger on top to spool from start..could have been easier if something break
I like the Alpina dials. Tbh, the 5 series is just so cool, I love it! Drove a few irl and they are just amazing for long travelling. And they are surprisingly dynamic on country roads too. Just slow U-turns and stuff like that isn't the best in the 5 series.

Whats the average fuel consumption? Having 515 hp is hardly economical and kinda losses the point of having a diesel. I guess it is cool to show off how much diesel engines and technology have advanced, but apart from that I dont see a point for this engine, especially how much it cost to buy/requires to maintain. I live in Europe and im all up for diesels but youre just better off getting a V8 petrol at that high price point.

I bet this quad turbo thing is some weird selling point to people who know nothing about cars and just gonna brag about having 4 turbos

You're shifting way to early! This engine is capable of reaching +5000 rpm (which BTW is uncommon for a diesel engine), even though max power is at 4400 rpm.

Because of the power band. The engine looses power after 4500rpm. The peak power you get is usually 3700-4500rpm. I bet this has alpina tcu flash as it shifts earlier. Stock car in sport+ shifts at like 5100rpm - but is slower for it
@@Timilias Not true at all, the low pressure turbos allow this car to achieve a high redline. Even though torque is decreasing your rpms are still going up so you can still make usable power.

Each turbo is far less stressed than if it was one or two of them. Less stress = more reliability and durability. Also, much smoother powerband.

You don't redline diesels.... All of the max torque is lower down in the rev range.. So revving to the max is useless
