Our go to was a friend's older sister, next was a friend who just looked older and was often served, especially at one gas station, but he applied what we called the "Zack Tax," I forget the amount but it was a dollar amount applied at scale per 6 pack, 12, 18, or case. Then there was asking strangers, followed lastly by simple shoplifting. Well it wasn't always simple, we planned an elaborate ruse once at a grocery store involving a 4 man team and faked chest pains at the counter.
I forgot about the two black owned stores that specifically catered to the underage. One of them had an armed thug out front who would screen kids and only let so many in at a time and kept an eye out for cops. They got away with it for quite a while. The other place was in good old Ferguson MO, it was like some kind of prison commissary, there were no shelves or anything, just a wall with a section of bullet resistant glass and one of those no contact drawers. You told them what you wanted and they'd put it in a box in the back then put it in the drawer. That was the place where I learned what malt liquor was.
