RGT kits are beautiful quality, very sturdy and smooth and amazing to work with. If you want a house for a child, definitely go RGT. Greenleaf houses are not as sturdy and require a ton of finishing work but have better architectural scale and design for an adult collector. RGT houses are more cookie cutter in that all/most of the rooms in a given kit are the same size and are boxy. With greenleaf you either have to be willing to work for hours on finishing work or you need a plan to cover the wood so that it's not seen. With RGT it's more paint and go. With greenleaf your best bet is to buy good windows and doors and mouldings separately, the ones included aren't good. With RGT you don't have to, unless you want a certain style or look. I think when deciding it's all about what your vision is for a finished house, its style and function - ie if a kid will be playing with it or not.

But you can customize and change RGT houses. I have this Allison Jr, making it a long term heirloom project for my granddaughter who wont get it until old enough to care for it. I didn’t use any of the kiddie gingerbread trim, didn’t use the windows, doors, shutters, window boxes or interior stairs that came with. I bought all new modern working windows and doors. Real looking wood stairs. Real looking shutters. I added an interior wall and on the first floor I cut the wall shorter so no door in it and so they leave an open area between kitchen and living room. Someone mush more talented can do so much to customize and change it.

There is a Conservatory addition available for this house that is exactly what you are describing building on side. There is also a two story side addition available.

Real Good Toys dollhouses are a dream to put together. The shingles are my least favorite part. I always use victorian doors, windows, shutters, and railings instead of the ones provided. I bought a Greenleaf house once. It went into the garbage. Good luck on your project!🤗

Thank you!! This is my first. As a kid (I was 13) I was given a Greenleaf and put it together ok, but I remember all the bit of wood everywhere and a lot of splinters. I love that all the pieces of the Real Good Toys is cut out beautifully.

I've only heard good things about Real Good Toys, ease of assembly, everything fits, etc. Thicker wood too. I got either a Greenleaf or Duracraft kit decades ago, never put it together, but did find a completed one in a consignment shop for $75 and got that. Wallpaper and floors done, I'm good with that!

Hey! I hope you're still working on your houses! I need to check out some of dollhouse Facebook groups! OMG!!! I LOVE LEGO! I don't think I could handle the 1/2 scale AT ALL! I've just bought two houses and I will be doing a series on my channel.ONE...is the Alison, Jr. that I am renovating AND I would love to add more room on to it!
I really like the door you bought. The one that came with it is pretty basic so I am going to build another door for mine. And the windows to the Alison, Jr are better than the ones in the Painted Lady that I also am renovating.

All I do is half scale. I’m used to the pieces being ridiculously small.
