    What a great presentation! When I introduce evolution as a fact (and not a theory) I like to use the analogy of pebble sorting by wave action on a beach. Now I have a beautiful resource in this video to point students to. So thanks again.

      Oh yay! So glad you like it enough to recommend to students, thank you! Also, I love that analogy for evolution, I never thought of that before, but it makes a lot of sense! :D

    Uhm this is definitely exciting to me & many others!! I’ve ALWAYS been fascinated by how rocks form into all the different shapes & sizes we see! Like this comment if you collected cool rocks as a child like me 😁 (I still have my rock collection after 20 years lol)

      When I was a kid my grandpa took me on walks because for some reason I had an obsession with collecting milky quartz and diorite (I called them moonstones, didn't know what they were called at the time). There was a whole rockbed of it at my grandparents house.

    • @GEOGIRL
      @GEOGIRL  2 года назад +1

      @@ThrashmIO I am on board with the milky quartz, but the diorite? hahaha, I love that, rock hunting as a kid is the best! It's like fishing, you are ready to quit but then you catch/find something and want to keep going :)

    The sphericity also affects how good of a skipping stone the cobble would make, I imagine.

    miss Rachael😃...can we please get a video on how to use the Brunton compass?? It will realy be helpful😊

    • @GEOGIRL
      @GEOGIRL  2 года назад +1

      Oh wow, people still use Bruntons? haha yes, I can try, but I will have to re-teach myself how to use mine lol.. After my undergrad years, I switched to using an app on my phone which is just so much easier, so maybe I will give a 'how to' on both a real compass and the app. :)

    What is the process that causes grid striations in an ice jammed river?

    • @GEOGIRL
      @GEOGIRL  2 года назад +2

      I believe is the ice against the bank (if the bank is rocky). Kind of like a glacier carves a canyon, ice in rivers can also carve the rock in the bank, but since it's pieces of ice coming and scraping the rock at all different angles, it causes grid/crossing striations rather than parallel striations that are caused by glacial movement. Hope that makes sense :)
