Honolulu Mailman - Smooth Operator (Live at SF JAZZ)

🎤Been counting down towards tonight’s Neo-Soul jamming session at SFJAZZ for literally the whole winter, and here I am performing Sade’s “Smooth Operator” with an amazing band at the Joe Henderson Lab of this dreamy venue.
It was a night guided under music director Terrence Brewer and vocalist Tracy Cruz, dedicated to masterpieces from Robert Glasper, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and Sade.
As beautifully put by Terrence, Neo-Soul is a genre that “embodies smooth vocals, intricate rhythms and deceptively complex and introspective lyrical nuances”. To me Neo-soul's healing power lies in its authentic expression, rich musicality, emotional resonance, and empowering messages, all of which connect deeply with me as a listener seeking comfort, affirmation and inspiration. It is a genre that I listen to the most after Brazilian Bossa Nova. Hope you all enjoy this song.
