You totally missed the first lego stud shooter.... the Pirate Cannon from 1989. Sold with only the first wave of the black sea baracuda in 1989. Then outlawed in the US as a choaking hazzard. It brought the change of holes in 1x1 heads and 1x1 round bricks for breathing if a child swallowed it. Lego redesigned the Cannon as a 1 piece non firing. The shooting Cannon was sold in Europe as an accessory pack.

I do not know if Europe got shooting / non-shooting cannons in which sets. US child safety laws were changed about spring loaded toys after a few children got hurt and I think 1 or 2 or a few died. The problem with the sping loaded missels is that the the missle piece can only be used for that one piece and lego bricks should always be multipurpose if possible. This is why the flick missels are more lego like. A solution might be to ad a little lego compatible bar behind the head making the spring loaded missiles shoot from both the flick and spring loaded barrels.

Off the top of my head... I seem to remember there being a sort of disc-launcher in, at the very least, one or two of the Mars Mission sets. It was a cylindrical container with a slot at the bottom and a plastic tab on the side that could be pulled back and released to flick the discs out
I also remember Bionicles having a bunch of cool projectile launchers. From my childhood I remember only two (unless you wanna count the let-it-rip style propeller launchers) -- there was an elastic-powered ball launcher for one line and a mechanical 6-shooter with custom darts for another.

  • @mutanttepig4759

Honestly for the flick fire bricks I think that both have their uses. For the more recent ones those can simulate laser fire while the other type of flick fire bricks are more for physical projectiles. They should make it so that some sets use the older version(perhaps retooled for modern sets) and for other sets(primarily star wars and sci-fi sets) they use the newer kind.
