I have seen on "this old house" program on PBS how they use a buried drain they call a french drain when there is no good way to attach a gutter. Definitely a warmer weather project.
I was thinking about all the downed trees you have every where, ask GP Rents if they have a chipper and chipp up some of the wood to add to the all the wet and muddy places you have on the farm. Plus you can add it to your garden area. Just a thought. Love to the family from Amarillo Texas
Just thought I would share my past experience with farm mud. U r just wasting money and time doing what u did until you put a heavy ground cover over the mud then put a good cover of crushed rock on the ground sheet which will keep the stones from sinking into the confounded mud which has a way of coming to the surface until u cover it with the ground sheet. It must be able to let water flow through it and retain the surface crushed rock. Hope this helps.
I used woodchips to stop the erosion from beside a roof, you should be able to make a few tons with all your windfalls. Just an alternative way of fixing your problem. God bless you all.
Ahhh what memories. In summer the ground is hard and you can’t imagine any problems. Come winter and one day it is an instant bog above the shoes, ankles, calves (pun intended). Guess you may add another load after New Year to catch the gaps.
I have a suggestion... I would have dug all the poop and loom or just mud out then put the gravel in the reason why I say this is because the gravel will just sink down into the mud and the mud will end up being on top again btw love your videos keep up the great work
Merry Christmas! 🌲 We (beginner RUclipsrs) strive to be a fraction of the absolute pillar you've become. Thank you for your guidance, whether here or on IG. I think its really genuine that you take the time to respond to my goat questions. 🙏🏿
Dang it!! You done gave me a cowlick! That Kubota tractor is a handy little thing to have around. If Y'all keep making vid, I will stay around and watch them! Y'all stay safe my friends!
I always enjoy your "Story Time" Daniel. When I first saw EmmaLee she had a friend standing in the barn door, then like the clown car at a circus...they just kept coming! You commented about how many were there and they responded with Madelyn is coming too! I laughed and needed the laugh. Thanks for sharing!
Daniel, love the videos and all that your doing sense retirement. Fix the mess before it becomes huge is a problem for sure. I've been in construction and excavation site prep work for nearly 30 years. We always save work smarter not harder. That mud is your pain in the butt, I would remove it first before any rock. The rock is heavy and you will lose the rock and the mud, well, you will still have it. Just trying to save u a lot of money and time. I would use tour box blade, scrape it to firm ground with no mud, make that area slope away from buildings and put a shallow trench for water to flow away from your wettest area and add a piece of drainage perforated pipe then lay fabric over the pipe and the cover your whole area with rock. Best of luck
I taught at a middle school which had zero gutters. They built concrete troughs which captured the water off the roof and moved it to the lowest point and then away from the structures. It seemed to work well. Might be a good solution to runoff.
It’s so good to see another fellow RUclipsr and Homesteader sporting the Kubota! 💪 I wish we all could of got together and convinced Jeremy and Melissa at Good Simple Living to go orange instead of green! 😆
I periodically top off my driveway with crushed concrete. It rakes out nice and really get a smooth surface. Merry Christmas to you and your family and your RUclips subscribers.
Love these videos and you're exactly right when you live on a farm there's always something to do everyday winter summer spring and fall there's always something to do and it is called work
Bear is the sweetest dog ever! Hire me and I'll follow him around all day and give him love. Also having cows on stone??? Sounds like hoof problems waiting to happen. I am a city slicker so forgive my ignorance .
Daniel I have an suggestion for you.I had that mud problem with my Donkey. Get ahold of your local tree removal guy and get a few loads of the grindings from them. Most of them pay to dump it. You need to get your rental place to get you a chipper and you can clean up a lot and you can use that also. Another thing make sure the cows dont get rock in between the toes. Merry Christmas Arms Family
First, I love the blues, and you have been treating us to several tunes, well done! I am always fighting with the mud from the rain running off the roof of my barn where my horses shelter , some day, a gutter, engineer hubs better figure it out!
Daniel, what about woodchips and/or straw to act as a water soak up tool? I think you have too much water in the dirt and until you can drain off the water, the mud will continue.
Daniel, instead of always going to et rock, why don't you get a chipper and make wood chips from the fallen trees? The little branches that you do not use for firewood. GP likely has a selection. Works organic matter back into the soil too.
Daniel your have such a great life on the homestead with your family. I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very very safe New Year . Hug you D.J. and tell them you love them each and every day. They will never get jet tired of it. You make the right choice to stay on the farm. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 God Bless America
Love Bear. Lol 2 yr. old fur babies. Yeah will you have to check the hooves to make sure nothing gets lodged in them. This music makes me smile. Merry Christmas and enjoy this Holiday season, with hope the 2021 will bring much needed joy sometime in the New Year. Stay safe & take care of you all. Thanks for sharing eh :))
We had a mud farm until we put down that heavy duty landscape fabric with layer of crushed rock and 1"gravel , much better. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 love your channel
When you run out of gravel you should go down some trees 🌲 and then rent a wood chipper and put that where you need it. It would be great for the area and when it breaks down it becomes compost for the garden for spring or 2021.
vampire gutter hangers should work good for your barn problem. they screw into your roof and hang down to your gutters Merry Christmas to you and the family
i wish the best for your showing, I really do!, however, i have some concerns... when we were showing cattle we put the halter on them at about 80 or 90 lbs , they were still nursing . by the time they were weaning then your their best friend . after halter breaking , then there will be a wash and comb job every 3 days , oh and muck out them stalls 3 times a day so they don't even get their hooves dirty , spread new straw every night. oh my Emily and Houston have their work cut out for them!
You are dealing with a never ending problem mud. I dug down, and put fabric down. Then I added large ballast stone, on top of that I put clean 3/4" stone, topped with stone dust. I used clean stone, and no modified. Other areas near the barn I used grooved concrete. Easier to clean up the manure, and can hose down. I love the little heifers, they are so cute. You may want to check the eyes on the one that is tearing a lot, she may need non steroidal ophthalmic ointment, call your vet and ask. Merry Christmas
Cows can get hoof issues walking in mud. Hoof rot for example. The kids 4H’s should be getting eduction on this. I was in 4H myself. It’s a wonderful learning experience.
Oklahoma and Texas are about the same it's either a mud hole or a dust bin lol Merry Christmas and happy new year may God bless and keep you and your family safe
Bear sees you talking to the Camera and thinks...... "dad is talking to himself Again, better go bring him back to reality" 🤣
😄
🤣
That's what all the animals think.
Bear is so adorable. He just wants your attention. Bless him. 💖💖💖🐕🦺🐈🦙💖
Always a great video when Bear is at the beginning and the end. He's an opener and a closer !!!
I have seen on "this old house" program on PBS how they use a buried drain they call a french drain when there is no good way to attach a gutter. Definitely a warmer weather project.
Aww! That would make a great shirt! A silhouette of Bear with, "Bear's the hero" on it ❤
I was thinking about all the downed trees you have every where, ask GP Rents if they have a chipper and chipp up some of the wood to add to the all the wet and muddy places you have on the farm. Plus you can add it to your garden area. Just a thought. Love to the family from Amarillo Texas
Wood chips was the solution in my head too
Great tip on documenting vs. Creating! It can be a struggle trying to figure out what the next video is gonna be about.
That dog Bear, just loves you. You can just see it in his face...Oh daddy, I love you!!!!!!! Wonderful dog. Faithful and loving.
Hi Daniel! Merry christmas to you DJ weston Houston Emmalee bear bella skipper lambert wopper and all the other pets!!!!

@@bernieryan3189 merry christmas to you too
Merry Christmas, also & have a Happy New Year
One thing I've discovered, when you think you've ordered enough gravel, think again. 😉
yup! Mud eats gravel. like i eat bacon! ;)
Ain't that the truth
Just thought I would share my past experience with farm mud. Good Evening To Arms Family Homestead and all others too! Enjoyed you on Live. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everybody.
I used woodchips to stop the erosion from beside a roof, you should be able to make a few tons with all your windfalls. Just an alternative way of fixing your problem. God bless you all.
Remove mud first and stone is bad for their hoofs
Ahhh what memories. In summer the ground is hard and you can’t imagine any problems. Come winter and one day it is an instant bog above the shoes, ankles, calves (pun intended). Guess you may add another load after New Year to catch the gaps.
Daniel a word of caution sir, watch for stone in cows hoofs before they become lame....
Yeah I can’t believe he’s putting rock in with the cows. How about putting them in a bigger pasture
I know nothing about farming, but it occurred to me that walking on stones can't be a good idea.
Whopper is a steer.
@Sam Hill He shoots blanks
@Sam Hill um Whopper is a steer🤣
Ahahahaha, I was in another room in our home & heard the music - knew my hubby was watching Arms 😍
You and your wonderful family have a very merry Christmas
Hey Daniel. I have used wood chips, saw dust and old hay ....give it a try ...good videos .. thanks
Great music got you working and it's great to see others coming out helping and visiting.
I have a suggestion... I would have dug all the poop and loom or just mud out then put the gravel in the reason why I say this is because the gravel will just sink down into the mud and the mud will end up being on top again btw love your videos keep up the great work
You need to get a load or 2 or 3 of wood chips on top of the gravel chips a lot easier on their hooves
Just put them in a different pasture
The bigger rocks can bruise their hooves, smaller is better in corral areas. Merry Christmas to ur family.
We'll have to hope the biggest of those stones sink into the mud.
But the smaller stones can get stuck it between their hooves he really just need to pour some concrete
Keep an eye on their hooves. I've seen rocks and sticks caught in hooves. They get sore quick.
Merry Christmas! 🌲 We (beginner RUclipsrs) strive to be a fraction of the absolute pillar you've become. Thank you for your guidance, whether here or on IG. I think its really genuine that you take the time to respond to my goat questions. 🙏🏿
I think its butterscotch. Has eyes that are weeping....Watch out for Pink Eye......Good luck
It's funny seeing whopper being close to the fence near the heifers alot.
Have a blessed Christmas Arms Family.
You all have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR from my family to yours and all the animals!
Dang it!! You done gave me a cowlick! That Kubota tractor is a handy little thing to have around. If Y'all keep making vid, I will stay around and watch them! Y'all stay safe my friends!
The light coloured calf has pink eye, conjunctivitis in both eyes need some chlorisig if you can get it 😊
Good job that dog sure does love being around you. Chris from England
Hi Daniel, having the animals, and family help your story line. Love watching your videos. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I don't know if bear is the hero but he's definitely a character

Merry Christmas to you and your family and all the critters . Bless you all
Hay then get stomp into ground pour lime on turn hard pack almost cement ground hay lime
Love all your stories. You have a way of making things interesting and exciting!
You don't need any thing on a metal roof , but the metal on the rooftop to mount the gutters to it .Good luck
I taught at a middle school which had zero gutters. They built concrete troughs which captured the water off the roof and moved it to the lowest point and then away from the structures. It seemed to work well. Might be a good solution to runoff.
I like seeing the kids come out and help. I think that was the firt video with out Houston making at least one sitting.
It’s so good to see another fellow RUclipsr and Homesteader sporting the Kubota! 💪 I wish we all could of got together and convinced Jeremy and Melissa at Good Simple Living to go orange instead of green! 😆
For gutter on your barn, use what is called an SST hangar. I've used them on many jobs. Perfect for your barn.
Here's a picture of one.

You weren't kidding when you said it was muddy season lol Looks so much better. Wishing your family a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.
Wow that's a lot of work done in a short time. Thanking God for Kubota. 🥰
Daniel, what about woodchips and/or straw to act as a water soak up tool? I think you have too much water in the dirt and until you can drain off the water, the mud will continue.
I was wondering if some kind of bedding on the top layer wouldn't protect their hooves more.
Love your stories, Merry Christmas Arms family!
That is a muddy mess and show cattle stay safe. Love you guys. 🥰♥️💞
Have mud spa days lol
Those pigs left a memory.
Merry Christmas to all the Arms Family. 🎅🌲🤶🎄❄⛄☃️❤

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO AND THANKS FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO..
My granddaughter cackled with laughter at the cow licking the camera. Then I had to #REPLAY it for her. ☃️🌲🎅 Merry Christmas from Mississippi 🎅🌲☃️
More like #REPLAY 6 or more times, she loves it 🐮🐮
Moving that rock by hand is hard work! You got your cardio in today!
Still waiting for Houston to pick a name! Lol
Daniel, instead of always going to et rock, why don't you get a chipper and make wood chips from the fallen trees? The little branches that you do not use for firewood. GP likely has a selection. Works organic matter back into the soil too.
Wood chip mulch instead? You have plenty of brush piles for free chips that can turn into compost for your garden later.
Daniel your have such a great life on the homestead with your family. I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very very safe New Year . We had a mud farm until we put down that heavy duty landscape fabric with layer of crushed rock and 1"gravel , much better. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 love your channel
Merry Christmas and happy new year to all of the arms family
Daniel, we call that SB2 (gravel mix) across the Arkansas line. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year To You And Your Family
Great job
Kids should be out raking or something so they can write it in their 4 H booklet
When you run out of gravel you should go down some trees 🌲 and then rent a wood chipper and put that where you need it. It would be great for the area and when it breaks down it becomes compost for the garden for spring or 2021.
Whopper is one neat, curious boy... Good start on the mud hole!!!
Merry Christmas to you and your family! May the next year be even better
vampire gutter hangers should work good for your barn problem. they screw into your roof and hang down to your gutters
Merry Christmas to you and the family
Merry Christmas from my home in Canada to yours in Oklahoma.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your Family Daniel!!!
Having the same issues with mud here in NC with all this rain ugh. I put a ton of mulch down though

2 Great Heifers and the animals will love them rocks on that mud.
Can you get saw dust? It’s better than hay, hay just soaks in and becomes more mud where saw dust helps with the moisture doesn’t become mud.

Goats/Same problem we had here. We had high sucess with Pig bark/ hog bark/ gorilla bark. It stopped the sinking too.
Cows can get hoof issues walking in mud. Hoof rot for example. The kids 4H’s should be getting eduction on this. I was in 4H myself. It’s a wonderful learning experience.
Merry Christmas Daniel and Family. Let us all remember the reason for the season🎄🎄🌟🌟✨✨
