    My buddy has a fly rod, line, 4 lb leader and a couple of size 14 hooks.
    Walking down to the river he used to pull a little wool from the end of his old red sweater or his old black woven hat and tie the fibres on one of the hooks.
    He could catch as much as anyone.

    You may have noticed that this video is re-uploaded. The original video was taken down by RUclips because of an ALLEGED copyright infringement for an image that I photoshopped. hey I resemble that remark on the rod vault. I got it when I worked nights and would do a lot of night fishing out of my kayak. Rigging up in the dark is just no fun at all, and saves a lot if time at the boat ramp. I'm a nurse so I'd go out 2-3 times a week for all of the fair weather months. 💪💪💪💪

      I have a 2wt 5wt and 7wt fly rod and this covers me for pretty much anything I come across(this is in the UK but I imagine it's similar😅)

    • @accountnotinuse1535
      @accountnotinuse1535 4 года назад

      @Marcos C indeed yorkshire has definitely got my vote👍
      Personally myself I prefer the river Meon just because it's what I'm used to but I'd flick a fly at anything.
      The fisheries are something to behold as well.
      Almost all of the fisheries in the UK are joined to the trout masters competition.
      I'm 14 but they suit all ages (as I'm going into the trout masters youth finals in August).
      If you do ever decide to fish over here my tips are:
      *Don't only fish with gnat imitations or small flies
      *I only use 2lbs flourocarbon on the rivers for brownies but I will step up to 20 lbs flourocarbon for Atlantic salmon. Also if I'm fishing a fishery with trout over 6lbs I'll step up to 4lbs flourocarbon🙂
      *Think outside the box(you'd be surprised how many fish I have found in ditches).
      *Tie flies similar to original patterns but adapt it slightly(some people might think this is a waste of energy but I say better safe than sorry).
      *Don't just fish for salmonoids.
      Ive had some great fun with mackerel, garfish, scad, Pollock and bass in saltwater and in freshwater there are always pike, perch, carp, bream, rudd, roach, dace , the possibilities are endless.😄
      Sorry for the long reply but I'm stuck at home with nothing to do as the weather is appalling so I'm bored.😅
      If you have any more questions on the fishing over here just let me know.
      Tight lines, The Kingfisher🎣👌

      @accountnotinuse1535 4 года назад

      @Marcos C I agree with you there.
      there is a much higher level of success from finesse fishing
      I also do a lot of ul spinning from April to November.
      Tight lines from Hampshire😁👍

    Great video except for the thoughts on waders. As a Florida boy I can tell you that waders are needed everywhere but Florida. Out side of Florida there are a lot of cold places with great fishing. I mean really cold too! The high in some of these great fishing places is below 60. Heck some time the fish are biting like crazy and it's below 50! And you know what else? When it is this cold there are no bugs! NO BUGS! Get your waders and go north boys!

    Few things you forgot... You don’t need expensive shit... skill and patients beats expensive shit EVERY TIME. Also, you don’t need to know 6,000 knots... 2 knots is all you need to know... clinch & nail... DONE... anything more and you’re just earning a merit badge!
    As someone who has always been a minimalist fly fisher, you’ve inspired me to thin it out even more! Why do I have flies I have not tied on in 5 years??? Sure I only have 2 small boxes in my tiny waist pack, but 25% of my flies I never use! Keep it up!!

      @@blakeb4399 I fished a 9'6" bamboo for 20 years that my great grandfather brought over with him from Germany circa 1900. I had to re-wrap the guides and refresh the lacquer. Third section had a bow in it, never bothered me, never messed with my casts. I don't remember the first reel I used on it, but I got it from K-mart. Tried a cheap graphite on it but went back to the aluminum one because it was heavier and balanced better. Unfortunately, somebody emptied out our garage and got it along with two antique bamboo convertible pack rods.

      @@blakeb4399 Just the facts. I'd love to be able to say I hope the person/s that stole my gear caught tons of fish with them, just as I had, but I'd be lying. The oldest one, great grandfather(I never met him) gave it to my grandfather who used it on the creek and beaver ponds on the family farm, then gave it to Mom. She caught many salmon on it, then it sat in the attic for 20 years or so until I stumbled across it when they moved. Even if I never caught a single fish with it I'd still be mourning the loss. It had no real antique value since I had redone the guides and finish, same with the pack rods, so I know they didn't get much for them if they sold them.

    The lakes where I live in California do not allow bodily contact and you need waders or a boat also you have tons of trees usually on the back so you cast range is limited lastly most people on the shore walk right behind you while fishing so you have to stop and check behind you which gets annoying so getting off the shore is kinda the way to go, you don't need it but it helps in some areas at minimum waders which are fun to bass fish in.

    Agree with most of this, except Tenkara. Tenkara is a legitimately easy, fun, and productive way to fish. If you don't like it because it's trendy, great, say so. But, as far as simple, easy, cheap ways to get out and fish, it is untouchable

    • @HugeFlyFisherman

      It’s not that I don’t like it, I just think it should be called cane pole fishing instead of fly fishing, because that’s what it is. But hey, do what makes you happy, and that makes me happy.

    • @AnonymousOtters
      @AnonymousOtters 4 года назад +4

      @@HugeFlyFisherman Yeah, do what makes you happy, sure. But, please explain your argument as to why it is not fly fishing? It uses the exact same artificial flies in exactly the same way a rod and reel does, just with a fixed line. So by definition, it is fly fishing, in that fly fishing is using an artificial fly, tied with string, natural hairs and feathers to imitate insects and other lures for the purpose of catching fish. If you are defining fly fishing in some other way, please enlighten us

    • @AnonymousOtters
      @AnonymousOtters 4 года назад

      Cane fishing is a clear and distinctly different from Tenkara in that it uses lures or bait, not artificial flies. To place Tenkara and cane pole fishing in the same category simply because they are both fixed line fishing methods is a rather ignorant appraisal of either method

      @@AnonymousOtters Please tell me you are NOT saying that I've never put a worm or "lure" on a fly rod. Or a fly on a Zebco 606 on a spincast rig. Or that I've never just had the leader dangling out of the last guide of a 9'6" bamboo rod poking it into holes I can't cast to for the under story/brush. You are using the exact argument against saying it's cane pole fishing as he is saying it is.

    I don't know where that location is. I think maybe Idaho. I used to spin fish and bottom fish for years and was pretty spoiled since I've caught a lot of 15lb pike and lake trout. Fly fishing I've only caught maybe a 4 inch brown trout but it made me feel like a kid again. Caught it off a dry fly but had a much larger trout bite and spit a nymph. So now I watch fly fishing videos because I'm 200 miles away from my fishing spots and it's mid winter here in Canada. A bit too cold to fish for me, all my gear would freeze up.
