Jazz Legend Russell Moore

A Full Blood Pima Native of the Gila River Tribe of Arizona, Russell Moore was a trombonist famous for playing with Louis Armstrong and others. Louie said that Russell's melodic phrasing influenced him and thus all of jazz. Russell grew up in the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona. The influence of Native Americans on jazz music and culture is immense. There is a movement to recognize the indigenous roots to this truly American artform.
