Ambitious project! Turned out amazing. DIY is really something, venturing off down the path of a crazy idea and not knowing how it will go; glad this one turned out!!
This is straight up badass. I want to make one of these, but my electronics skills are several levels below yours. Cool as hell, from beginning to end.
Mike, this is utterly cool. Your stuff isn't all that much different from my own--but yours is WAY cooler. I'm gonna try and steal as much of this idea as I can as a tribute to you. Thanks for this cool video. Jonathan in Seattle.
Nice! I’m currently trying to make a version 2 with a bias oscillator and electronic erase head. Hopefully it will sound much better once I get that figured out.
Your comment makes me especially happy because this was the first video where I actually made a custom thumbnail with added text, big arrow and surprised look on my face in attempt to get the algorithm to work for me. Haha. Glad it seems like it’s working.
hey sorry this might sound like a super dumb question, but a magnetic audio head can we used both ways right? to read from the tape when the input is taking at the terminals and to write when voltage is applied at the terminals right? SECOND, what is the name of the heads you have used?
Yeah the play and record heads are the same. They just can’t do both at the same time. Not sure what their names or part numbers are though. I just pulled them from old cassette players.
Hey is it ok if i just post a quick 30 sec clip from this video on my facebook page with credit given to you and your youtube channel so more people can visit it?
May I please buy one of these from you pre-built and functional please!? I am a serious inquirer... I've been shopping around with a few other RUclipsrs with similar creations! I understand the beautiful machine that's demo'd in this video is one of a kind BUT I'm sure you could come close to replicating it for the right price! Please consider, thank you!
I actually just started on building a second one and trying to make it better. But trying to do some of it a bit different so that one is still a work in progress. But I’m totally down to build a brand new one for you…for the right price that is. Contact me through www.siskworks.com and maybe we can work something out.
@@SISKworks thx! I don't really mind eq'ing the signal but amplification is a must. Feels kinda weird to max out the mic input gain on the mixer so a pre amp is useful. thx!
No, not yet. But funny that you asked because I’ve been thinking about this the past few days. I want to try a put a speed controller on the pinch roller motor to see if I can get variable speed playback. I don’t think it will work for video since that info is recorded on an angle on the tape. But I THINK if I find a non “HiFi” vcr it could work. I wonder if anyone has made VCR tape loops yet? Hmmm.
Yes I could. I’m actually planning on making one for someone else coming up soon. I just have a few things before that. But making two is VERY possible. But it takes quite a bit of work so it will cost some money. Contact me through my website if you are really serious. www.siskworks.com
@@SISKworks . I was joking around. It just seems like a guy who would make something like this would be more resourceful instead of buying expensive non rechargeable batteries. yes i watched the video. Good stuff. 👍 I already gave you a thumbs up.
@@E-BikingAdventures well ok then. Haha. 😬 Thanks for watching. And TBH the dual battery packs is one of the things I don’t like about this project. but it really was only (easy) way to have clean sound with a PWM speed controller.
@@SISKworks I was wondering about the dual supplies. I started having a go at one of these years ago, I wanted to put it in a standard 9v fx pedal configuration and one of the things I got stuck on was the PWM noise. Putting a battery in for the motor control (while powering the rest of the circuitry from a mains psu or whatever) was one option I thought about. I'm going to push the PWM frequency a lot higher than what I have currently (what's yours?), got some ferrite beads to try, maybe isolate the motor and audio circuitry with a transformer somehow. Great outcome with your project though!
@@sirgavalot Thank you. I actually don’t know what the frequency of my PWM is. I guess I could check that with my oscilloscope. Just never thought to do that though.
Sounds fantastic, love the way the sound disintegrates over time. Amazing work.
Thank you
This is amazing, congrats! A schematic on this would be like a miracle.

Thank you 😊
Beautiful, fantastic project and sound ! Distortion is gorgeous !!
Very nice! Those bobbins work really well! I like the solution with the aluminum bar too. Great work - and very nice lofi-sounding delay!
Immaculate work & a lovely, lovely sound.

You have so many sick video. I had to stop adding your videos to my audio list. Lol. Theres too many i want to watch.
Glad you are enjoying them. I’ve been slacking lately and need to make more soon.
@@SISKworks well maybe i can catch up then. Lol
Fabulous work. Sounds beautifully lo-fi!
Love it! Great work! 😊
Well that's bloody great that!
This is fantastic! Really cool stuff! 🔥🔥🔥
This is Awesome!
Badass black-magic engineering fosho
Great work, very "Hainbachish" sound 😉
Nice. I watch a lot of his videos and he is a huge inspiration
Brilliant 😊
Oscillation on the feedback 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Genius!
wtf yt algo sent me here! i don't even have a tape deck! awesome content, bro!

@@SISKworks hang in, it's working and your content is really good, kept me watching even though I don't have any physical audio storages!
Amazing!! This is awesome!! So much creativity and ingenuity! Bravo my friend bravo!👏👏

Could you modulate the delay speed?
What is the shortest cycle per second
What is the longest cycle per second?
Hz as in
Can you do a video on how to build a diy one ourselves
I really should. I was actually thinking about trying to build a better version soon. So...maybe.
What’s the price tag on having one of these built? It’s a beast
Probably somewhere around $400ish. It kinda takes a lot of work to get all the mechanics working correctly.
Lort!
Here be fire!
Great work! Love the lo-fi-ish sound! I own a Roland 201 + 301 but this sounds kinda more lively...
Hi! can i get schematics of this delay? It looks realy cool, i wanna try to make it
No, I’m sorry but I never made any type of schematic for this.
this is good mate, greetings from Russia (:
That's so cool

This rules, looks/sounds so pretty and the gut shot is awesome. Go crazy with the pitch knob in the next demo:o
Thanks! Yeah looking back I see I should have show more speed adjustments in the demo for sure.
sounds sick!, what amplifier/circuit/pcb did you use to amplify the 3 delay tapeheads? thanks in advance!
That was a pre-built LM386 audio amplifier board I bought on ebay for super cheap.

What was the voltage on those battery packs?
6V each
Thanks dude
this rules way too hard for a tuesday morning.
Savage !
Have you ever tried recording on VHS tape? It adds a warmth not possible with cassette tape.

WIll pay for schematic
Haha. Yeah me too. 😁 I’m just not great at documenting my work.
Why aren't you using salvaged 18650s? Shame on you.
