- In this episode, I'll show you the jam-packed day I have in Tainan, Taiwan as a Foreign English Teacher.
Note: I took steps to protect the privacy of students and other people by blurring their faces. Class recording clips were from a shoot done for our teaching archives.
Take care,

Hello, sunshine ~ my name is Sir Sicat. I used to teach at a huge university in the Philippines, but now you will find vlogs about my day-to-day life transitioning to living alone overseas. I hope my experiences teach, inspire, or warn you (I'm sure I commit mistakes!). I hope I can take you into the subsequent phases of my life. Shine with me?
Gosh! Sir, I'm here again in your second video. Wish me luck! Maraming salamat sa inspirasyon. Padayon!
Hi, sir. I saw this video on facebook randomly and tumakbo talaga ako sa youtube to check if you have uploaded here too. I love the quality of your videos! Chill lang, realistic, and nakakarelax lang talaga. Looking forward to more of your vlogs!!! Ingat ka po jan sa Taiwan 😊❤
Wow, thank you Mary for coming over to RUclips to check out this Channel! Gusto ko talaga sana pag binalikan ko yung videos ko di ako magki-cringe or maii-stress haha. Salamat for recognizing that! Ingat ka rin!!!
I am always watching videos here on youtube everyday and this is my first time to leave a comment. Teacher, this is one of the most inspiring video that I have watched. This is the kind of life that I am aiming to have. Thank you for this.
This comment moved me. Thanks a lot for your wonderful words. I hope you make this your reality. 💕
Hi teacher, I recall the time when I was a teacher in Vietnam and was required to travel to various school assignments by motorcycle. January arrives, and wearing those bubble jackets is unbearably frigid. Additionally, English teachers must be more dynamic, particularly when addressing the needs of students throughout the entire process. That era! Plus, I enjoy your videos immensely. I commend your efforts in highlighting the distinctive qualities that Filipino English teachers possess in this field. Aim High :)
Salamat sa pagrepresenta, teacher! Mabuhay po kayo!
I'm delighted to hear that my work strung some strings in your heart. I'm sure your stay overseas is one of the many golden memories you bring with you daily. Going abroad is literally life changing.
missing taiwan... maybe more experience before traveling again there..i miss chipai...hahaha... i want to discover more in teaching though im not that young like you sir...i enjoy watching your channel and more to attraction again..and tribute as a teacher in abroad...chayooo!!!
For sure madami po kayong wisdom as a teacher! No one is too old to teach!
Ang healthy ng recreation activity niyo, sir! Vlogging is also one of my hobbies. Sana palarin talaga ako. At more than that, para makatulong sa family.
Just do what you can, and eventually, if you work hard, things might land on your lap!
I love the positivity! Thanks for sharing this, Sir. =)
Thank you so much po!
How nice! I want to visit Tainan City soon.
Sir, ang ganda po ng room nyo! I'm not allowed to put anything in my apartment.
Sorry late response! Bakit daw????
cutie roooom
Thank you!!!
Nakakatuwa mag turo si Teacher. 💪🍺
Amazing content, Sir! Clap clap!
Salamat po!
Hi Teacher! Hanggang ilang years po kaya pwede magturo jan sa Taiwan?
hi! just a question, how did you manage to get sponsored for a work visa? i know many people go on working holidays then have the schools sponsor them to stay, but the philipines hasnt got a working holiday agreement with taiwan correct?
Nice video.
Thank you!
Hi Teacher! Is one year teaching experience is enough to get accepted in taiwan as a teacher? And is it possible to teach children even though I graduated as a Secondary Education? Your response is truly appreciated, Stay Bless!!!
Hello sir. Can I ask if san ka kumuha ng TESOL/TEFL if mmeron po? Thank you in advance po. God bless
Hello, I graduated with a bachelors degree in teaching, and my major was English. Hence, I didn't need to take those certifications.
@@SirSicat thank you.
@@elaizamaesienes35 not sure po. Di po kasi ako galing sa DepEd 😄
Hello Sir Sicat. How long can you work as a teacher/assistant teacher in Taiwan? Is there a maximum number of years? Can you work there as long as you want? Thanks po! More power!!! :))
There's none! You can work as long as you want here if you're coming as a professional teacher.
Hello! Based on your experience (and perhaps the experience of others if you you know of other people in TFETP), what is it like working with a co-teacher? I taught in South Korea at a private academy and my co-teacher only helped with classroom management/assisting if there were students who were not behaving or needed something. So, I was in charge of planning and executing all my English classes. How do you divide responsibility between you and the co-teacher? Are teachers treated more like lead teachers or assistant teachers in TFETP (in your opinion)?
The answer depends on the situation. I'm currently working on my second school assignment. In many cases, our partners help with classroom management. At my current school, my co-teachers are quick to respond when students are struggling. They are sometimes apologetic whenever they feel the need to come in to the rescue - I honestly don't mind though.
I've come to realize that task division here isn't always necessary. Taking into account my experience, the school's English department organizes the curriculum, I create the lesson plan and teaching materials, but they collaborate with me to tailor my lessons according to the students' level.
We have a greater likelihood of being assigned as lead teachers. That being said, the cases can vary depending on the assignment given by the school. I feel incredibly fortunate in my current school.
What about the assessments, sir? How do you assess the students? Do you also compute grades or check students’ work just like we do here in the Ph?
I live in the city, and there are places that range around 5 - 8k. Mine is 8k+
Hello sir, how true na in order for your contract to be renewed in Taiwan as FET, you have to undergo the same process as when you started? Like demo, interview, etc.?
Not entirely true. We have teaching demos and observation to check the quality of our classroom instruction. It can be their basis for rehiring, but we don't do pre-employment requisites anymore. Mahirap ata yun for both the program and the teacher. Kung hindi sa public school ang tinutukoy mo, it might be different though.
@@SirSicatDo you create your daily lessons sir? Or they already have an existing curriculum and lessons that you just follow?
@@Jamjam28-wu1ml it depends on the school. In my case I prepare lessons on a monthly basis since I teach one lesson across different levels.
Are you teaching in a public or private school?
Public school :)
It's totally safe! Taiwan's among the safest countries in the world. Look it up :)
anong agency kayo nag apply sir?
I applied through the TFETP, you can search it. It's a government sponsored teaching exchange program :)
