  • In this episode, I'll show you the jam-packed day I have in Tainan, Taiwan as a Foreign English Teacher.
    Note: I took steps to protect the privacy of students and other people by blurring their faces. Class recording clips were from a shoot done for our teaching archives.
    Take care,
    Sunshine ~ Sir Sicat ☀

    Hello, sunshine ~ my name is Sir Sicat. I used to teach at a huge university in the Philippines, but now you will find vlogs about my day-to-day life transitioning to living alone overseas. I hope my experiences teach, inspire, or warn you (I'm sure I commit mistakes!). I hope I can take you into the subsequent phases of my life. Shine with me?

    Hi teacher, I recall the time when I was a teacher in Vietnam and was required to travel to various school assignments by motorcycle. January arrives, and wearing those bubble jackets is unbearably frigid. Additionally, English teachers must be more dynamic, particularly when addressing the needs of students throughout the entire process. That era! Plus, I enjoy your videos immensely. I commend your efforts in highlighting the distinctive qualities that Filipino English teachers possess in this field. Aim High :)

      Hello, I graduated with a bachelors degree in teaching, and my major was English. Hence, I didn't need to take those certifications. Kung papunta po kayo sa Taiwan, ingat po kayo sa pag-choose ng institution na magbibigay ng certification kasi hindi po lahat ay hino-honor.

    Hello! Based on your experience (and perhaps the experience of others if you you know of other people in TFETP), what is it like working with a co-teacher? I taught in South Korea at a private academy and my co-teacher only helped with classroom management/assisting if there were students who were not behaving or needed something. So, I was in charge of planning and executing all my English classes. How do you divide responsibility between you and the co-teacher? Are teachers treated more like lead teachers or assistant teachers in TFETP (in your opinion)?

    • @SirSicat
      @SirSicat  8 месяцев назад

      The answer depends on the situation. I'm currently working on my second school assignment. In many cases, our partners help with classroom management. At my current school, my co-teachers are quick to respond when students are struggling. They are sometimes apologetic whenever they feel the need to come in to the rescue - I honestly don't mind though.
      I've come to realize that task division here isn't always necessary. Taking into account my experience, the school's English department organizes the curriculum, I create the lesson plan and teaching materials, but they collaborate with me to tailor my lessons according to the students' level.

    • @SirSicat
      @SirSicat  8 месяцев назад

      We have a greater likelihood of being assigned as lead teachers. That being said, the cases can vary depending on the assignment given by the school. I feel incredibly fortunate in my current school.

    Hello sir, how true na in order for your contract to be renewed in Taiwan as FET, you have to undergo the same process as when you started? Like demo, interview, etc.?

    • @SirSicat
      @SirSicat  8 месяцев назад

      Not entirely true. We have teaching demos and observation to check the quality of our classroom instruction. It can be their basis for rehiring, but we don't do pre-employment requisites anymore. Mahirap ata yun for both the program and the teacher. Kung hindi sa public school ang tinutukoy mo, it might be different though.

      @@SirSicatDo you create your daily lessons sir? Or they already have an existing curriculum and lessons that you just follow?

    • @SirSicat
      @SirSicat  7 месяцев назад

      @@Jamjam28-wu1ml it depends on the school. In my case I prepare lessons on a monthly basis since I teach one lesson across different levels.
