Judy Auerbach, PhD, is a sociologist who works at the nexus of science and policy, with a focus on HIV. Her research and practice interests focus on the social organization of scientific knowledge, specifically the role and standing of social research; community engagement in research; and attention to women in the HIV response. In her work, she promotes integrated approaches, engaging biological, behavioral, and social sciences and community experience. Born and raised in San Francisco, she received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. She has taught, presented and published widely in the areas of HIV/AIDS, social science, public policy, sex and gender. She has been an IAS Member since 1994 and is now a JIAS Editorial Board member and IAS Governing Council member.
Holly Nishimura, PhD, MPH, received her Ph.D. from the Department of International Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and holds an MPH in Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health and BA in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley. Dr. Nishimura’s research interests include understanding the social and structural factors that contribute to inequalities in health outcomes globally, with a particular focus on gender and economic inequalities. She is also actively engaged in efforts to decolonize global health and improve equity and inclusion in academia. For her TAPS fellowship research, she is working with Dr. Carol Camlin on the Owete study, which uses a social network approach to promote HIV self-testing and linkage to care among fisherfolk at Lake Victoria. Holly received RAP pilot funding from the UCSF-CFAR Mentored Scientist Program in HIV/AIDS to study engagement in HIV prevention and preferences for long-acting injectable cabotegravir delivery in fishing communities along Lake Victoria, Kenya.
Kristopher Jackson, PhD, MPH, MSN is a nurse practitioner and nurse scholar who, over the last decade, has worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, UCSF Medical Center, and California Pacific Medical Center. Kristopher completed his Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of New Mexico prior to starting the UCSF TAPS program in 2022. Kristopher has a particular interest in the use of novel data collection methods to gain insight into hidden and/or stigmatized populations of people at risk for HIV, as well as how to approach HIV and harm reduction practices in populations with stigmatized, intersecting social identities. Since joining TAPS, Kristopher has continued to grow his program of research having authored multiple peer-reviewed papers exploring advertised risk and health-seeking behaviors among Internet-based MSM sex workers.
